HotForWords on boxee

i must admit that i have not heard of HotForWords, Marina Orlova, or even knew what a philologist is… complete ignorance on my part, since she is huge on the Internets (she was voted the World’s #1 Sexiest Geek by Wired Magazine’s Sexy Geek of the Year Contest). after installing the app i am now officially a fan of both Marina and the fledgling philology field.

Ümüt Özalp is based in Denmark and built the HotForWords app as part of the boxee dev challenge. you can find the HotForWords app on the App Box.

we asked Ãœmüt to write a few words about himself or how he built the app so we can include it in the blog post. he replied back saying “regular guy from Turkey living in Denmark and working with IT”. i guess he likes the study of words, but not big on using too many of them. :)

btw, Marina has played with the app on boxee and likes it!

I personally don't think Boxee is ready for all this. User experience needs to be perfected before I can even care about adding an application… There are too many bugs still and music is still not functional. I want to be able to stream everything flawlessly, and have it index properly, before I start using the webapps. but hey, maybe thats just me

we realize there is a lot for us to do in the core product. specifically we're changing the way the Music indexing works (it will be based on ID3 tags, like iTunes). we're also working to fix some of the video streaming bugs.

are you part of the early access users?

      yup…

I barely use cable anymore but many times boxee will not load a video, or the video will start to play and then randomly mess up. Indexing is still not perfected either. Also, I've run into error 2 many times, usually fixable by leaving the ATV off for a while, but lately I haven't been able to locate my shares unless I do it manually (which can be annoying).
