TV powered by Boxee? Oh, Yes! ViewSonic is building one

In the market for a new HD TV? Want to get one powered by Boxee? Well we’ve got some great news for you.

Today at CES ViewSonic is showing a 46″ HD TV that is powered by Boxee.

Like in the case of the D-Link and Iomega boxes the ViewSonic TV has Intel Atom CE4100 inside, which means it can deliver the ultimate Boxee experience, playback of 1080p, browser, accelerated Adobe Flash, HTML5, apps, local, Internet, etc.

The Internet is becoming a key source for video for the main stream consumer and it is reflected in the demand for a connected living room experience. People will get connected in different ways and our goal is to try and make Boxee available on a multiple categories of devices.

If you already have an HDTV and want to get connected than Boxee will be available for you on a variety of standalone boxes, but if you are in the market for a new HD TV you will soon have the option to get one based on Boxee’s software, which is perfect for people who want to reduce the number of boxes in their home theatre setup.

If you happen to be at CES this week you should stop by the ViewSonic booth (South Hall #30873) and see the TV in action.
Pricing and availability will be announced later this year.

Yes, very nice Avner, but can we get the next firmware update out now (so we can move on to the next which is supposed to fix fanart and local metadata).

Remember, regardless of when you release there are going to be bug - the quicker you release the quicker we can help you find the bugs ;)

  2. Pyrofallout says:

Yes! This is what I have been waiting for to buy a new TV. Cannot wait!

  3. Mike says:

    So sick! Congrats!
Sidenote: when will the VEVO app be getting the HD videos that are available on their site already?

    • stevo81989 says:

I got Vevo HD on mine :)

      • Mike says:

        how? where? er…

        • stevo81989 says:

Whenever I watch a video it natively switches to the HD feed. Maybe I am mistaken but I am pretty sure mine does. Some people’s Youtune doesnt switch to HD either but I have had no issues with that. Maybe i am just special?

          • Albert Kinng says:

Yes it does! I got them in HD also, so this guy maybe doesn’t know what he’s doing withnhis BBox.

Really nice to see the Development and Adoption among manufacturers.
Avner, though try to fix crucial Regression Bug that doesn’t index / show DVD files - http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7061
This one has caused real Frustration and confusion for all boxee users.

  8. Andrea says:

Ok, ok, new products…good for you :) but we need firmware update. Please?

  9. Drew says:

    2011: Year of Boxee.

Man the boxee team is not playing around. Boxee on the tv, deal with CBS. How much longer till a boxee satellite in space lol. Great work.

  12. Jas says:

Please make some improvements in Vevo app in next firmware as: favorite list of all videos you like through facebook like button on VEVO.com. That shouldn’t be that complicated to do because you can view all your artists liked on facebook in your favorites in vevo app for Boxee Box.

  13. Blacktwin says:

Very nice to see boxee getting all this attention. Love all this information on the blog too. Great job. Other commentors: keep it relative to the topic. Avner you seem to have too much patience. Looking for to more and more. Great job.

ViewSonic sucks, but if this leads to more devices with Boxee then i’m all for it. Get Samsung and i will be sure to buy there Boxee TV. Boxee is good software and with all these new Connected TV’s we need a standard software all these blu ray players and TV’s, versus each manufacture making there own broken/limited software.

Like Samsung TV’s have there own app enabled TV’s as dose Sony and although they work i find them not supporting as many codecs as Boxee dose or some other problems likie installing 3rd party apps just so you can steam your local content to you web enabled TV, Boxee seems like its the best solution. You guys need to deal with the big boys like Sony/Samsung and even Western Digital. Imagine there WD live with Boxee!!!!
