I've got the same too. Any news about this error? i've tried on plex and xbmc, and the results are the same... There must be a problem in the script, since boxee and plex are based on xbmc.

Cheers

Apple changed their security model for the site.

If you're browsing HD movies from apple.com, they no longer download reference .mov files to the machine, they just open the http://*.mov files directly in Quicktime Player (equivalent to "Open URL").

Quicktime Player then trades cookies with movies.apple.com.

May need a combination of UserAgent lying + cookie handling to get this functionality back. Not sure where Quicktime Player is getting the initial cookies from to pass on the HTTP GET request.

Check out my by-hand workaround.

yep. same here on multiple windows systems.

Same problem here with Boxee for Windows 7.

I've filed a bug report on it over on Jira Boxee at http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-2797

Solution:

No cookies involved. It's pure UserAgent filtering.

wget -U "QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;cpu=IA32;os=Mac 10.5.8)" "http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov"

^ that works. Should be easy to modify XBMC / Boxee / Plex to fake the UserAgent string.

I'm sure the Boxee programmers will take a look at that when addressing this issue.

Hmm, Joost seems like a mixed bag here. Working fine on some channels. But no video or sound on others (Billboard, Eagle Rock, Paramount Movies).
I filed a bug report on it over on JIRA as Boxee-2809; see http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-2809

I can browse trailers now, but on two different systems trailers appear to play, but I don't get any video or sound. When I say appear to play, I mean that the progress bar increments like it is playing a video.

Both systems are running Ubuntu 9.04. Let me know if you need any other debug information.

Tale, that's exactly what I'm seeing on Apple Trailers right now with Boxee for Windows.

It's the bug I reported via Jira.

Most of the time changing the movies.apple.com to www.apple.com does the trick and the movie can be downloaded and viewed.

For instance:
http://movies.apple.com/movies/wb/whiteout/whiteout-tlr1_h480p.mov
becomes
http://www.apple.com/movies/wb/whiteout/whiteout-tlr1_h480p.mov

Put the following line in your host file and it will work again.

17.149.160.10 movies.apple.com

17.149.160.10 movies.apple.comThanks Magician. Worked for me. BTW, for those that don't know, "hosts" file is located in Windows\System32\drivers\etc

The file doesn't have an extension and you have to copy it to your desktop to edit it, then just copy and replace the existing hosts file.

And for those using Ubuntu (or OSX I think) hosts is /etc/hosts (but you probably knew that...)

Apple trailers don't work here (vista 32-bit).
They work fine in firefox or IE.

Does anybody else still have problems?

Same issue here. Running Ubuntu Jaunty.

In my boxee, apple trailers are really bad since that problem last month.

Now I can't watch trailers in any HD mode - after a few seconds of video it stars jittering as if it was still loading the video, the sound and video become out of sync and eventually it stops playing after 10 seconds or so.

It happens with SD videos sometimes too. And it is definitely not a bandwidth problem (I have 20 Mbps and it worked previously, as do plenty of HD video sites).

I don't know if this is a problem with the boxee version - I am running the last version that was built for Ubuntu Hardy.

Same story. It worked for a while after I did the change to the HOST file (recommended earlier on this thread) . I tried today , black screen. Commented out the change to the HOST file, same result - black screen. I have Win XP SP3 and run the latest boxee version (end on 93)

I am wondering if there is any cooperation (or "anti-cooperation" ) between Boxee team and Apple. Apple trailers on apple website works just fine, My boxee version is the same when it worked, so the reasonable guess is that apple changed something and intentionally or not intentially didn't notify boxee.

BTW tried XBMC - apple trailers stopped working there either

I recently switched to OS x (actually I use both ubuntu and OS x but switched my boxee to my MBP). Some time last week trailers stopped working, all I get is a black screen if I play a trailer. If I go into the trailer app it does not retrieve the trailers.
If you got any tips or need to get some debuggin' info let me know.

Even when adding the apple trailers rss feed into Boxee directly the screen is black while playing. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the app.

Hope this gets fixed soon. Maybe in the upcoming beta release? ;)

we are looking into this issue and i am sure that there will be a trailer option in the beta version..
