Some of the data in my library is incorrect from previous alpha version of boxee. Is it recommended that I delete library cache each time I upgrade?

Boxee seems to be doing a pretty good job guessing my content as of late. However, it still seems to randomly add files to my "Recently Added" section. It almost seems like when Boxee is idle it starts to figure out all of the assets in the Sharer Folders. Like many I have a pretty big media library to parse. There also isn't any indicator or progress bar on how much of your library Boxee has scanned.

This is totally up to you whether you want to start re -indexing from scratch..i personally delete my library via the settings>general >erase library as i update/delete files from my shares..

i personally delete my library via the settings>general >erase library as i update/delete files from my shares..

This sounds like a huge maintenance overhead.

(I'm hoping to get my atv this week, still haven't got to play with boxee yet)

When I add/delete/rename files from my shares doesn't boxee re-index the changes?

When I add a file, how soon will it appear in Recently Added? I'm assuming it'll be in 'My Videos' instantly?

In my experience video's are not added automatically. When I add movies to my movies folder they do not show up at all - not even when I give it time.

However when I then manually connect to the shared drive and start playing them (in some cases) Boxee then sees them and starts indexing them.

So it seems that my network share is not being monitored? Anything I can do about that?

Thanks,

Thijs

here's a whacky idea. Let's say boxee has an smb share of it's own. The top level folders in the share are the sources boxes has write access to. Now, if we add a file to boxee's share, boxee just acts as a proxy for the transfer but it instantly indexes the new files!

No need to poll, or trawl through the sources.

Thoughts?

i'm sorry, i'm not sure i follow... could you explain your idea in a bit more detail?

Let's say I have a share \\epsilon and the boxee has a share \\boxee

I add epsilon as a source to boxee. Now there's a directory \\boxee\epsilon\

I could add files directly to \\epsilon but boxee wouldn't be aware that there's a new file. It would have to reindex the drive to find it.

OR I could add the file to \\boxee\epsilon. Boxee would act as a proxy for the transfer, simply transferring it to \\epsilon. But now it knows there's a new file and can fetch the meta data instantly. No need to reindex the share.

I know, whacky isn't it.

i follow, now.

hrm... seems a little convoluted, if you don't mind my saying. it's really up to team-boxee, but it seems like a lot of work, for--what i would consider-little benefit.

without asking you to justify you're wishes, maybe a REALLY good use-case is in order? i do understand the use, just not the real-life utility.

i hope you don't feel like i'm putting you on the spot, it just feels like not many people would use such a feature.

There are still some unanswered questions.

I'd like more than just anecdotal evidence.

All I want is instant updates when I add new media. If there's some other way to do it I don't mind.

SpaceMonger seems to have an incredibly fast re-scan if little has changed. If this means when boxee polls the share it doesn't take very long and can poll more frequently (5-10 minutes) without affecting performance I'd be happy.
