View Full Version : New App release: Fancast

September 6th, 2009, 06:38 AM
I am working on Fancast. Right now it is just one list of files. ;) I am working on getting it more organized but for now, as long as you don't mind scrolling, there is a lot of content to watch ;).

I will work on getting a better flow for you all. The details on how to add my repository (the address) is in my sig below.

Working on it. I wish I knew Python. Right now all my releases are just RSS Feeds apps. :) I will try to make nicer, less boring, looking ones some time I hope soon.

Thanks for the encouragement marcel.

great job Jen, know a lot of folks been looking for this one ;)

September 6th, 2009, 01:41 PM
Thanks ;).

I made a slight adjustment to the RSS so I released a new version 1.1. You probably need to uninstall the one you have and then reinstall fancast.

Sorry. ;)

In the new version you start to see the organization part of the app. I will not be able to do much more than you see right now since I have to go to my day job. But I should be able to get a lot more done later tonight, and tomorrow. So look for better navigation then ;) Thanks.

Wow - Fancast is great. Well done Jen!

So I am working on getting the content in. However I wanted to point out that it seems the abc channel shows will not work. (Because it needs to launch to the abc site to play it. Correct me if I am wrong but I do not believe anyone has found a workaround for abc yet?

Updated the big list under TV to be alphabetical with yahoo pipes. So at least it will be a little easier to find the show you want until I finish the genres and such.

feeds seem to be broken now :P

September 7th, 2009, 01:12 PM
You should be able to use this for the show list:

Then each show is linked to its individuel rss

September 7th, 2009, 01:39 PM
I wonder if it was yahoo pipes cause it is working for me.

I did use that show list except I modified it with the rss:// instead of http://

hmm let me know.

The only feed I know is working is under television and then the full list.

(please note that the version has changed so you would need to update that. It should be version 1.1)

silly me, forgot to update in my test pc ;)

Good to know. I was worried. So everything is working like a charm now then right?

So I have come across an issue I do not know how to make work with boxee. When you view something Rated R or MA it asks if you are at least 17 before allowing you to proceed. I am not sure how to accomplish this in Boxee. Any pointers? For example it is doing it on episode Jail from the show 30 days.

I know this was an issue with another app before... can't remember which 1 though. I'm pretty sure you can get past the click here thing. Not entirely sure if it helps any, and i think it's with python to get it to work, but look at the coding for the tv shack plugin for xbmc. I know nothing of any of the programming for these apps but tv shack pulled a lot of videos from megavideo and megavideo requires you to click a play button on screen to start the video. Somewhere in the plugin is code to go past this, unless they've found the direct link to the video, bypassing their video player.

I was curious, though, if movies or just TV Shows are in the app. I haven't had a chance to really look through it yet.

Yeah I believe in Boxee it is a javascript fix I will be looking in to it as soon as I can. As for right now it is TV shows since a lot more movies need that click through to happen. Also trying to find a good way to have the movies update when they expire.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.

Just installed your fancast application and it works like a dream. Will you be adding the movies as well?

If you ever get bored will you please write something to get the YouTube movies as well.

Thanks a bunch!

I will be adding the movie and the app will eventually be a skin app as well stay tuned.

Updated with temporary solution, it still has some quirks. I still need to figure out how to get past the "confirm your age popup on some. But at least there is a temporary feed now.

In the Fancast app, when I stop a movie in the middle then try to go back to that movie later, I get to a restart/resume option page. Fancast will supposedly start the movie over or pick up the movie where I left off depending on what VCR symbol I select. Well, the options don't work, whether I select them with my remote control or click on them with my mouse. This leaves me stuck on this option page and unable to get to my movie, unless, of course, I leave Boxee entirely and access Fancast through my browser.

Sorry about that. I am aware of the issue but still working on a solution. (as well as being able to get past the age verification.) Try to get it fixed as soon as possible.

no problem take your time ..you are doing an amazing job...:)

Thanks alot for the Fancast app!

Two things to report

1 - The videos don't always start correctly. When a video fails to load, I see the boxee browser loading, then the flash app goes full screen but when full screen I just get a black screen with the fancast logo spinning forever and nothing else. This happens maybe 40% of the time and seems random. After one or two retries of the same video it works.

2 - For one episode, I get a prompt to "Resume watching where you left off" or "Start watching from the beginning" Since I can't click either option I'm stuck. I think this was caused by first watching part of the episode in Firefox and then trying to watch it again in Boxee.

Is there content in Fancast that's not in Hulu?

Thanks alot for the Fancast app!

Is there content in Fancast that's not in Hulu?

YES! Yes, there is. Fancast has shows that Hulu does not have, which makes it the perfect supplement for other cable shows: Food Channel, Fine Living, Travel Channel, etc.

I have seen some Hulu content on it too. Sometimes, I've been able to watch mature audience Hulu content via fancast and not get the Age Verification screen. Like with "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." ;)

you sir are my hero, food network shows make this app a must have for boxee :) thanks a bunch man

p.s. Is there anyway to get the video stretched to 16:9 or is that not an option?

September 29th, 2009, 02:54 AM
Hey check out my cooking on boxee app for a bunch of cooking shows (including the foodnetwork shows from Fancast) No there is no way I know of for stretching their content.

Ps. I am a girl. ;) Haha not that it matters. Thanks is still appreciated.

actually you can stretch the video. once the video starts just go under the video tab and adjust the zoom and pixels. of course then everything will be short and fat but it will be stretched

I am having trouble adding this url to my boxee beta for rss feeds of a show I'm interested in.
any help as to why?

I get incorrect url error

I wanted to get fancast for the criminal minds episodes.
I dont seem to be able to find fancast in the list of boxee apps in the beta version i am using.
That's when I tried adding the feed above to my repository to no avail.

I have added this application, but when I try to watch, it asks me to login to my comcast account. I have an account, but I can't figure out how to login.

January 6th, 2010, 12:02 AM
I think if you log in on the site itself it may store the cookie. I however can not test it since I cannot add the app.

January 6th, 2010, 08:46 AM
I tried logging in on both Firefox and IE. Still no luck.
