[adult swim] is now available on Boxee!

http://www.imgilbert.com/repository/adult-swim-image-1.06.png

http://www.imgilbert.com/repository/adult-swim-image-1.06-1.png

FEATURES:
Browse videos by category/show in an easy to use tabbed interface complete with thumbnail images for each video. The interface has been designed to streamline navigation of the site with fewer clicks from a remote. The channel inspector shows a larger preview, as well as the name and description of the video.

Filter videos to display only clips, episodes, or everything.

You can decide whether you want the videos sorted by date (newest), popularity (most views), or critical acclaim (user rating).

[adult swim] App remembers the category, show, and filter options you were using the last time it was launched.
This reduces the time to reach your favorite episodes/clips.

App loads "screens" of thumbnails at a time to reduce load times.
The channel list will automatically expand as you navigate to the end of the list.

Navigate by scrolling through the channel list, or use the page up/page down buttons to move one screen at a time.
Mouse users can also navigate using the scrollbar control.

Clips AND episodes are fully navigable through "Recently Used" and can be replayed from the logic screen.

Adult Swim "bumps" play in between episode segments. This is actually done to overcome a technical limitation Boxee has with video playlists. (As in, they don't work. At all.) Right now I have a some random quotes that I am using for the bumps, but I need better ones. Give me your bump quotes!

This app is based off of code from the XBMC plugin, which is itself based off of the original Boxee plugin that no longer works.
The app no longer requires a PHP server, and I send different queries to the AS server-- mine are identical the Adult Swim's flash player. (This allows for filtering and sorting, a nice side benefit).
Thanks to thecheese for the starter-starter code.

App has been tested and verified working on the AppleTV, Mac , Windows, and Ubuntu versions of Boxee.

CAVEAT LIST:
This App is currently in its initial releases, so there may be bugs I have not encountered. Please report any problems you find, and they will be quickly addressed.

Some of the episode thumbnails are pretty low quality. Nothing I can really do about that.

My Repository: http://www.imgilbert.com/repository

Please report back any problems you find with the app. And give me some good bump quotes.
This is another thank you to the boxee community for keeping me cable free for the past year!

Version 1.07 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

Made changes in the underlying python code to account for new changes in the server API. You can play clips and episodes again.

Added code that checks to see if an update is available in the repository when the app is launched. Thanks to Fuzzgtp for this code.

Improved the text handling of the application, including the handling and display of unicode characters.

Venture Brothers episodes have been recoded and are now compatible with Boxee's flash player. They are now available for viewing.

Boy, that was fast: Version 1.01 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

Fixed some ridiculously stupid indentation and syntax bugs that somehow slipped though the cracks in the initial release. Luckily I don't think anybody has even downloaded it yet!

Are you sure you were watching an episode and not a clip? None of the episode synopses/thumbnails mention anything about Scooby Doo.

You can filter the results to show only episodes by clicking the "View" button to the right of the "Other" category tab. By default, the App shows "All", meaning both clips AND episodes.

It looks like your program was choking on the copyright symbol in my xml file. Apparently it can't handle files encoded in UTF-8.

I've changed the copyright symbol to just say "copyright."
You can probably re-add it to your repo now.

Version 1.02 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

I've added a blacklist feature that can be used to filter out videos that aren't compatible with Boxee's flash player. (I'm looking at you, Venture Brothers.) At the moment this is a static list (blacklist.xml) that is bundled in the com.imgilbert.adult-swim directory. Let me know if you have problems with any other videos and they can be added to the blacklist in a later release.

A few enhancements have been made to the user interface, mostly subtle things-- except the selected video now sports some rainbow flair. (See updated pic in the first post.)

Fixed a possible issue where segments would continue to play even if the user decided to cancel the operation.

Version 1.03 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

Videos played in the Adult Swim app now appear in the "Recently Played" user history on the login screen, and are reported to the Boxee server. I've also dramatically improved the amount of data appearing in the "More Info" dialog.

I've added the ability to view all segments of an episode from the history. One caveat with this is that, after replaying, the additional segments will consume an extra spot in the "Recently Played" list-- although you can manually remove the extra segments if you choose.

All episodes are now "badged" with a blue icon that helps the user distinguish them from regular clips.

Episode preview screens now match the ones that appear on the adult swim website.

Version 1.04 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

Fixed an issue where the third video segment of an episode would not play properly.

Added the ability to return to the show listing of the currently selected category (such as "Comedy").

Pressing the left button in either the show listing or the video listing panel will focus on the selected category tab.
This makes navigation a bit easier, and prevents the Boxee menu from popping up so often.

Added a text message that pops up when no episodes or clips are available for viewing.

The bump segments are now faded in so it is visually less jarring (and more like real TV).

Refined a lot of the fading animations in the main interface to make it more visually appearing.

Improved the appearance of the visual interface when it is being loaded.

Internally, the underlying python libraries have been rewritten so the same code is used in the Adult Swim and Cartoon Network apps.
This makes it easier to maintain the code and add features, as fixes in one app are automatically available in the other app.

Version 1.06 of the Adult Swim app has been released.

The graphical user interface of the Adult Swim app has been completely redesigned, to improve readability and usability while navigating through videos.

Shows are now selected from the front panel of the user interface. By moving the episode preview and description to a second page, the font size used for show names has been increased. This makes navigating much easier from a television, where the font size could be too small to read.

In the episode/clip selection screen, I've reduced the number of on-screen videos from 16 to 12. This reduces the visual clutter on the screen, and allows larger font sizes for the video title and description text. These changes have made video browsing much easier.

Various improvements have been made to the page loading transitions that improve the smoothness of the user interface. Added some Adult Swim art.

I've already identified the issue and will release a fix sometime tomorrow. Adult Swim/Cartoon Network modify their server API every couple of weeks for no apparent reason.

In the main Boxee menu, there is an item called the "App Box". This is Boxee's interface for adding and deleting apps. In the App Box, there is a column labeled "Repositories". From there, you can add my repository, http://www.imgilbert.com/repository , and my apps will be available in the app Box.

One of the best repositories out there is:
http://dir.fuzzthed.com

It acts as an intermediary repository, basically linking up all 3rd party app developer repositories into itself. Add that repo, you get access to everyone. Saves time.

With much excitement, I just started using the Adult Swim application yesterday (11-8-2009) and was hugely disappointed! Navigation works great but on playback its hanging at the initial age warning. It's the only app I've run across that won't play back and how disappointed I am. I've been looking around to see if others are experiencing the same problem and it doesn't appear so. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Anyone else having trouble?

I've had that same thing happen, it seems like when the age warning finishes playing, it hangs on loading the actual episode. A quit/restart seemed to make it go away.

BTW - There are several shows that have age warnings, but sometimes its only for specific episodes. I've seen it with Venture Bros. and Titan Maximus just today.

Can I ask what version of Boxee you are running? This app works fine in the Mac and PC versions of the Boxee Beta, but there seems to be a bug floating around in the Ubuntu versions of the Beta that makes most of my apps unusable. For some reason, python on the Ubuntu version runs very slowly...

I'm using the windows version, pretty sure its the current version since I got it from the boxee site.

I'm running it on a windows 7 laptop.

Could you please capture a debug log of the behavior? It might be helpful in understanding the issue...

Thanks.

I'm not exactly what causes these sorts of errors. I have had at least one user reporting this sort of error before in the past, and he was able to clear it up by uninstalling and then re-installing Boxee.

Hey just wanted to pop by and say I am going to be using your code updates in the xbmc plugin.

I still see it is still using the same perfect token code I reversed for the xbmc version. Thanks for the updates.
