So I was actually able to use the terminal...very cool for a novice (and Beta tester)...I now have Launcher and Boxee works...the only strange thing is under "Software Menu", nothing responds...is this normal???

Yep, but you can download the updated softwaremenu from here:

It has a few other goodies, like reordering the menu items, restarting finder, etc.

Just download those t files with wget. Chmod the script and run it.

Can you walk me through terminal ssh step by step? I was just able to get everything working, but had specific instructions...thx

wget http://iscripts.googlecode.com/files/SoftwareMenu-1.0b1.zip
wget http://iscripts.googlecode.com/files/SoftwareMenu-1.0b1.run
chmod 755 SoftwareMenu-1.0b1.run

That should do it.

Sounds like you know more about the problem than I do. I've never used atvfiles, so I am kinda at a loss. I am guessing you could just remove it's frappliance entry. Looking at awkwardtv's wiki, it looks like it is called:

which will be located at:

Really I am just guessing, so don't hold me to that.

I found this post and was going to try...

"Chris, did you install the ATVFiles plugin? That's what it turned out to be on my system; once I removed it I got the menu screen back.

Here's what to do: SSH into the AppleTV and type:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/PlugIns/ATVFiles.frappliance

That should delete the plugin. Then reboot and see if it comes back. If not, keep deleting plugins until you have it back (I can vouch for NitoTV, Boxee and XBMC). Also, Launcher must be manually installed.

HTH, and thanks to Wolfpaw for helping solve this one! "
