PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application

This application allows the user to use an Official Sony PS3 BluRay Bluetooth remote with Boxee. You can map each button on the remote to a remote keypress and therefore it can be used with any application that handles keypress events (like Windows Media Center, Zoom Player...). This application has been tested and works on Windows XP 32bit, Windows XP 64bit, Vista 32bit & Vista 64bit, 7 32bit and 7 64bits (.NET 2.0 required).

Installation:

Here are some quick instructions on how to pair the remote with your computer using the inbuilt Microsoft stack (bluetooth software).
- If you use another bluetooth software like Bluesoleil you dont need to do these steps.

1. Make sure you have a Bluetooth adapter for your PC.
2. Go to Control Panel >> Bluetooth Devices and click "Add" a new Bluetooth Device
3. Hold down START + ENTER keys on the PS3 remote to begin the syncing process.
4. Check the box next to "My device is set up and ready to be found", then "Next"
5. Click on "BD Remote Control", and then click "Next"
6. Select "Don't use a passkey", then click "Next".
7. To connect the remote to the computer, press START and ENTER on the remote for a couple of secs.

Download:

Now simply download the PS3 Remote Application v1.0 Beta (http://www.benbarron.com/downloads/ps3bluemote_experimental) and use the installer provided to install the program.

Configuration:

Now that you have the program installed you need to configure the key-press, but i allready made a key-press config for Boxee that you can download here (http://www.mediafire.com/?jh0ymjljxyz), so you must run the PS3 remote application, then go to the system tray and click with the right button on the PS3 remote program and sellect:

Configuration - File - Import - Yes - select the file dez09 - ok -click Save - Yes and OK

http://i48.tinypic.com/52hsht.jpg

Now you are ready to use your Boxee, the config file that i have maded is already configured to use with the new Boxee Beta. Enjoy :)

UPDATE: new version of the PS3 Remote Application and now it supports SMK Blu-link VP3700

Theres something about this post....

and this post:

That make me feel like this is spam... But since the Users like it... And they're not asking for money...... Maybe I'm being a bit hyper sensitive?

Yes I think you are being overly sensitive, I don't see this as spam at all.

Thanks for the tutorial!

I was using an off brand mce remote but not anymore!
This is great. I am going to buy one of these remotes for every boxee box I build. Works great. and since boxee and xbmc use about the same commands it works great there as well.

what if I need to switch back to controlling my ps3? Do I need to go through the whole process again and use a different config file?

no the config file will still work. all you have to do is re-pair the device. The remote can only be paired to one device at a time.

Hey thanks for this tutorial, i have only just started using boxee so have been looking at ways to make it better to use.

just a quick question, if i followed this setup and used the config file to make it work with boxee, will the remote also be able to control windows outside of boxee, simple things like opening start and navigating to my computer etc?

thanks again i think i will buy a ps3 remote just for this!

Pssh, I got it to work after manually adding it via the Address ID. What a pain, but atleast it works. If anyone else has this problem, PM me and I'll explain in detail.

Thanks for the tutorial. Works relatively well for me with the latest version of Bluesoleil on 32bit 7. However, I've had one problem with it. It drains the batteries on the remote /really/ fast, in about 3 days or so. Is there a trick to getting the remote to power down when not in use?

I'm having the same problem. It seems to kill a set of rechargeable batteries in a day or two. This can't be typical, can it?

Thinking about buying this PS3 DVD Remote as a nice looking compact PS3 compatible alternative. Anyone used this:

PDP Pelican DVD Mini Media Blu-Ray Remote for PS3 (http://www.bmcdigital.co.uk/catalog/view/pdp-pelican-dvd-mini-media-bluray-remote-for-ps3?froogle)

For UK Boxee users, its quite a good price - 9.95, free P&P & 5% discount code. Seems like it comes with a dongle too. What do you guys think?

Should any compatible PS3 DVD remote work? Obviously the buttons have the same functionality.

Yes its typical, what you can do is to disconnect the PS3 remote from bluesoleil, by holding down START + ENTER keys on PS3 remote when you finnish using Boxee!
This way the PS3 remote control will be turned off and saving your batteries!

If it works proprelly with the PS3, it will work with Boxee!

hi rasheedl...
I don't think so!
This is an IR (infrared) remote control the PS3 one is bluetooth.
But maybe I'm wrong.

I've been using the PS3 remote on my Boxee PC for a while now. Last week or so i changed the batteries (the ones which came with the remote drained uberfast) and since i did that the remote loses its connection to the PC after a few mins of inactivity.

To reconnect i have to remove 1 of the batteries for a second and then put it back. Pressing a button will re-activate it on my PC.

This is bloody annoying, does anyone have any clue about what to do?

Cheers,

Bento

Can I make a Button that stars the boxee software in Windows ???
And can I wake up my PC when it is sleeping (standby) with the remote (using Windows 7)?
