OK, so how do I get my Microsoft MCE remote control to work with Boxee on Win 7? I tried EventGhost but to no avail. Nothing is being recognized with Boxee. I tried installing the alternate drivers but the bat file doesn't work properly even being run as an Administrator. Also tried to download LM Remote but their website won't let me download the stupid software on either Firefox or IE.

Any ideas and the steps necessary to get my remote control to work with Boxee?

Alpha or Beta?

I used the search to find related posts: MCE remote

http://forum.boxee.tv/search.php?searchid=2060700

Here are several threads relating.

Alpha. I tried the suggested tutorials. I've got eventghost on my machine now and I loaded in a variety of user xml profiles with no luck. I also tried downloading LM remote keymap which another post suggested, but I can't even download the software off their website???

Sorry, but I have to plead the fifth on remotes. :o I know very little about them for Boxee and I too am just only starting to do the research for one.

I just have to have one now with my HTPC. ;)

I'd read some of those threads and ask some questions there to see what help you can get from users.

No worries...finally got it working. Downloaded LM Remote KeyMap and uninstalled eventGhost, as well as the reinstalled the drivers for the MCE receiver. This time it picked things up and I'm good to go. Now if only can figure out how to override WMC turning on when I press the big windows button. I got that setup to launch Boxee, but Windows Media Center launches as well and I see no place in LM KeyMap where it makes this call. Any help with that from somebody would be cool, other wise I guess I can find another key for it but I would love to be able to use the big green Boxee, er windows button.

What Microsoft MCE remote do you have? I got my Philips SRM5100 working out of the box (disclaimer below) I plugged in the USB device and did a search in My Computer > Manager, it found a USB device but couldn't figure out what it was. Removed the device from Device Manager and re-added in and then it found the correct driver eventually which were for a "eHome xxxx".

The alternate drivers do work if you choose "Don't search" option. I would not use these as I got the same functionality in Boxee without the alternate drivers.

Disclaimer: My remote has loads of buttons and the PLay, Forward, etc buttons on the Philips remote do not work in Boxee but the nav buttons on the remote do work. It turns out not to be a biggy.

Now if only I could figure out hwo to map more keys I can stop the CLR button being the back button and instead use the <- button. Oh and to stop that green buttoon launching Media Centre!

Actually with LM Remote KeyMap you don't need to disable Media Center for using the Windows Green button: in LM RKM go to "Customize your remote", then click on "Change remote settings" and select the option "Exclusive use of MCE remote...". Be sure to unplug / plug back your remote receiver for changes to apply (sometimes you'll need to reboot your PC two times to be sure the change is applied).

Worked for me :)
