What will the difference be between buying the actual Boxee Box and just downloading to the Apple TV?

Will the Boxee Box be better?

The Boxee Box will not be 'better' than a computer with Boxee installed, no.

However, it will be 1000% better than the ATV with Boxee installed.

I just downloaded Boxee, and honestly I dont see what all the fuss is about.... Maybe it;s the AppleTV....

Maybe I'm not using it correct, but the interface sucks, it's choppy, and doesnt really offer mush more than a few streaming shows and Last FM

I would have to say that the reason it is acting like that is because it is running on an Apple TV, which is not built to run boxee (per se). The Boxee Box was built to run the Boxee software so it will run SO MUCH BETTER than an apple tv

The ATV only has the Alpha. Also, the ATV is way underpowered for the Boxee UI to be as ffluid as it is on PC hardware. (Hence why I said Boxee is better on anything but the ATV.)

Try installing the Beta on a PC, and see what you think of it. It is a world of difference.

I agree, ATV is a bit underpowered. When I installed Boxee on my mac and PC it runs so much faster that I ended up creating a media pc. I will be using the AppleTV as a DVR in our bedroom and stream the videos from the pc using NitoTv.

I think the ATV just got a second win with Boxee Beta. It can stream hulu at a decent rate that my kids can watch their shows without complaing. It see's my network drive ok and I can stream my files from there. Overall it makes a great DVR. I have a pc set up as the main Boxee machine in the living room and the ATV in the bedroom.

Another plus I think the ATV will maintane is that it can be hooked up to non HD tvs using composite. The boxee box will require the use of an HDMI cable. So ATV would tend to work on olders tv's were the boxee box won't.
