I've developed 2 boxee apps which can be downloaded by adding this repository:
http://boxee-orb.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

1. Boxee ORB TV App
The first app is a orb client app to watch live TV from Orb server (http://www.orb.com). You will first need to configure Orb server on your machine or different machine with a tv tuner, then connect to that machine using this boxee app. Currently Orb server only run on windows and mac. After you configured your orb server, then you should be able to connect to watch live tv. The Orb client app will prompt for username and password when run for the first time.

Navigation in Orb TV client app is simple, just use your arrow to select channel you would like to watch, and hit enter to watch, and video will be played. To go back to program guide, hit escape. When you are in program guide while the video is still playing, there are 3 different mode that you can use:

First is the full screen program guide with video thumbnail.
Second is the video page and program guide at the bottom.
Third is the full screen video.

You can switch between 3 mode by pressing left and right button.

Here is screen shot of Orb TV app:
http://boxee-orb.googlecode.com/files/boxee-orbtv-small.png

2. Spankwire App
The second one is an app to access adult website called Spankwire (http://www.spankwire.com/). I don't think this app needs a long description :). You can access different category and sort the video based on different criteria. I've put adult tag on the description, so you will need to enable adult content on your boxee setting in order to run this app.

Both apps can be downloaded by adding this repository:
http://boxee-orb.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

Please let me know your feedback and problem in using this 2 apps.

Thank you.

does orb do the same thing as mythtv for live tv?

Yes, I think Orb pretty much does what mythtv does. Only in Orb, after you installed Orb server, you could watch your tv from anywhere via internet, from PC or smartphone, similar to what Slingbox does.

Nobody here use ever use Orb? I think it is one of the solution to watch solution live tv in boxee, since boxee lacks of this feature.
If enough people are interested in this app, I might going to enhance it in the future to include PVR (record, browse recording) functionally to my app.

Cool interfaces!

Can you implement seeking capability in your spankwire app? It is something every app should have IMO.

Cheers,
S.

Thanks.
I just checked out Javascript API in boxee, and I think I should be able to implement seeking capability on the spankwire app using it. I'll post here when it's ready.

The spankwire looks good.:D Definitely needs FF RR on there. Good work on that.

I don't have Orb, but opened the app anyway. I was instantly greeted by a User Name & password prompt that literally takes over Boxee if you don't have one. It keeps cycling through asking, click no and then error, then reasks for user. I had to use Task manager to close Boxee to get out of it. ;)

If I had an account and a USB tuner, I'd test out orb.

Okay, the spankwire app now supports navigation. You can pause, play, fast forward, and rewind.

I have used Orb forever but unfortunately, it's no longer compatible with my HAVA (like a Slingbox) as my TV Tuner or I'd be all over this. But then again, HAVA has released an iPhone app so I'm pretty set for remote live TV :)

I still think the Orb/Boxee app is way cool :D

OTA support for boxee sounds great. so if i use orb with my antenna, will the quality be the same as if i had the antenna connected directly to the TV without using boxee and orb?
Also, I think PVR support would be an amazing addition to this

Another vote for PVR abilities in Orb.

I'm going to try it tonight. Just got an OTA antenna and all-in-wonder card. These work great with other software solutions I have tested so far (Sage TV, Beyond TV, Cyberlink PowerCinema), but of course it would be much nicer to have a singular interface via Boxee.

I don't think I can do OTA without PVR abilities, so I'll get it done somehow.

Hi Abadi,

Apa kabar?

I gave this a try last night and had reasonably good results. I couldn't get any of the programming info to show up, all the blocks were blank but I did mange to pick up the streams from the orb TV server.

The only problem I see is that this plugin relies on Orb which I have been playing with off and on for 5 years and have found to be total crap. They break the software on every update and have very limited support for capture cards.

I'm still having trouble getting sound to work on my Hauppage HVR-1255 with Orb when everything else works flawlessly.

You may want consider looking at the Media-Portal TV Server, it's extremely robust with good hardware support, amazing PVR and it's all open source. I wouldn't rely on Orb's tech, it's just too flakey.

Also I noticed that the picture is horribly compressed coming through the Orb server, I have HD coming in but by the time Orb finishes with it it looks like a 150k web stream

I'm unable to install these apps, when I try I get: Error Downloading Application. I'm using Boxee Box version 1.0.4.17443, Intel CE4100. I know that Apps have to be signed now, is this why I'm unable to download?

I was able to install it on Mac OS X Boxee Beta 0.9.23.15885 - I'd love to get these apps on my boxee box, are these apps going to be compatible with Boxee v1.0b anytime soon? Thanks and keep up the great work!

I couldn't download this or any of the apps on your repo on my boxee box either. Hope you can get it signed.

I tried orb a bit before a while back and while it did some things well it didn't seem all that well designed. Still cool that you made an app for it though.

+1 for PVR capabilities. I'm dying to stop using WMC and do all of my OTA live and DVR functions directly in Boxee.

Good call on the Boxee Orb App... I haven't seen it yet but it has my interest since I used Orb before a bit... great software! Can't wait to check out your plugin! Thanks for putting in the work on the app!

The apps aren't signed and so won't work on the boxee box though should work on pc.
