Let me give a big thanks to all the great folks here in the forum and to the developers. I have really enjoyed this software for about a year and a half now.:)

Today, however, I shot myself in the foot. I got around to finally going from alpha to beta on the ATV. I did a factory reset on the ATV software, then upgraded to 3.0.2. I then erased my old patchstick and made a new one. After running the patchstick on the ATV, I went ahead after the reboot and downloaded, first launcher 3.2.4, then boxee 0.9.20.10708. Took it for a test drive and it seemed to work great. I next downloaded XBMC 9.11, but did nothing with it.

Next, I went to NitoTV 0.8.5 from the 3rd part apps section. and then I downloaded the ATVFiles 1.2.1.1 that were there. DANGER, WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!:mad::(. Now, I have a black (blank) screen! I hear the TV audio clicking as a use the remote, but I have no image. If I leave it running for a few minutes I get the screen saver appearing on the TV, but when I hit any button on the ATV remote it goes blank again.

Is there something I can do by ssh that would allow me to start over and/or undue the damage I did. I can't navigate with a blank screen so it looks like ssh is my only hope.

TIA

Have you tried unplugging the ATV and plugging it back in to force a reboot? Once you do that, does it resolve the issue?

Thanks for replying. I did try rebooting several times by power cycling the ATV (pulling the plug) to see if it would correct the situation, but it made no difference in the symptom. I left that out of posting for brevity sake, but probably should have included that tidbit.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that the ATVFiles 1.2.1.1 install is only compatible with older revs. of ATV firmware and that you'll need to do a full restore of the ATV to get things running again.

Go ahead and hold down the "-" button and the "MENU" button on the ATV remote at the same time for 7 sec.

You should see the light flashing on the ATV for a few sec.

When it stops flashing, hit the Play/Pause button once. (ONLY ONCE)

Wait 3 sec. and then hit the "-" button twice. Then, hit the Play/Pause button.

That should initiate a factory restore and you should be able to start over again.

I'm sure there is a more painstakingly long fix that you can do with ssh, but, why bother unless you have some UBER CRITICAL files on there with no backup?

Thanks a million for those instructions! They worked to get me back to the beginning for a clean start which is really what I was looking for. I did not know this trick was available!

Thanks again. I read the forum more carefully re: the plug ins.

SSH in and install the latest atv-files, fixes this problem and no restore is needed.

wget http://ericiii.net/sa/appletv/ATVFiles-1.3.0b1.run
sudo ./ATVFiles-1.3.0b1.run

Yeah,

I've taken a lot of stress from some users over this! Present company excluded, of course. Some gems like: "thanks for the paperweight", "you ruined my life" and "I'm gonna sue your arse". Lol!

Okay, nobody said I'd actually ruined their life... I made that one up!
