I was trying to use the app, but it is saying my login is invalid for my gamecenter account. I then go to the web and use the same login, and I am able to log right in.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

GameCenter on Boxee was having issues earlier today; I wasn't able to log in between 12 and 3:30p (Pacific). I was able to log in to GameCenter at about 4pm (Pacific). Once I was able to log in once, so long as you don't log out I haven't had any issues. I can check the login/out after the Red Wings game.

I tried again a few times throughout the day, as well as this evening, and still am receiving an invalid login error. I know it's the proper login information as I can login to gamecenter via the web.

Thanks.

an you send me your boxee logs (see this thread http://support.boxee.tv/entries/43963-i-ve-been-asked-by-boxee-support-to-send-debug-logs-how-do-i-do-that)

Shall I just post the logs in this post or PM them to you?

marcel

post the logs here..

djtaco

I cannot attach the log as a txt because the file is too big. I also cannot cut and paste the whole log...would you like just sections?

darcilicious
April 26th, 2010, 08:53 PM
If you zip/compress the log file is it small enough?

djtaco
April 27th, 2010, 04:06 PM
I was able to put the log in a zip.

Thanks for all the help.

Boxee NHL Gamecenter app currently says there are pre-season games on right now.

But to watch them you need to log in to NHL Gamecenter.

To do that you need to be a registered user of NHL Gamecenter.

BUT where does one go to register a user name with NHL Gamecenter???

When you click on their registration link you get this:

Due to the national broadcast schedule for today's games, the NHL GameCenter LIVE™ Day Pass is not available for purchase.

Please check your local television listings for today's game broadcasts in your area and check back for Day Pass availability.

Help!!

Hello? Anyone home?

I had the same frustration yesterday, but, too my surprise, I could sign-up for the GameCenter subscription today!

Then, to my EXTREME disappointment, NHL GameCenter Live IS NOT BROADCASTING PRE_SEASON GAMES!

I tried to find them online on the computer AND on my windows Boxee Beta. Neither place yielded any live games. The Boxee Beta lets you pick a game, it shows the score, lets you login, but instead of playing the live video feed it shows a video screen of the NHL GameCenterLive menu (which only shows Vault games and won't let you even pick them).

On the computer, I can at least watch the games from the end of '09-10 to make sure it works.

On Boxee, I can't even watch vault games, archived games, condense games, or highlights of old games. Why is that? I though Boxee's NHL app gave access to Live and Vault/Archived/Condensed/Highlights.

That may be a deal breaker on cutting the SAT TV in favor of Boxee.

Boxee & NHL -- I beg you both to make this work as it should!

If there's no live games in the next 5 days, I'm hosed -- you only have 5 days to cancel GameCenter -- after that you're obligated for the full amount, even if you chose the $20 per month option.

Just want to give you guys a warning. I ordered NHL Game Center last year just before the playoffs started. And even though the picture quality is great (watched it using Chrome not Boxee). I wouldn't recommend it.

1. Local teams games, games on Versus Channel, and NBC have a 48hr blackout!!! Are you kidding me?With MLB.tv you can watch local blackouts after only 90 minutes. And you can even watch some games live even when they are airing on ESPN.

2. I ordered the $20 a month package a week before the playoffs started. And since the playoffs only lasted a month and a half. I was still charged for the next 4 1/2 months even though there weren't any live games. (read the fine print)

3. Horrible customer service. I called customer service to ask them to cancel my service after the playoffs were over and was greeted by someone who obviously hates his job. He was very rude and didn't really feel like being there. Like he was just going through the motions. Well he agreed to cancel my service but I was still charged the following month. I called back to complain and was told my call wasn't on record and that anyways they won't cancel your service even if you're on the month to month plan regardless if the season is over!

So stay away. You've been warned.

Ya I found this out yesterday. Oh well, no big deal. I found that NHL Center Ice (which I purchased last year) left a lot to be desired; mostly the "HD" feeds which were often advertised as such and then were always in standard definition 4:3. As far as the Versus and Local blackouts, it's great for me because I'm not in the local viewing area for my team. Even if I was, every game for the past several seasons has been sold out and so no blackouts have occurred. It would still be annoying if it did though. I still get Versus and NHL Network so nothing lost there, and even when they play the local team I can at least watch it on the local stations; despite having to listen to their commentary. But for the other 80 regular season games it's money. Plus my wife will appreciate that I don't hog the TV from 7-10 three or four nights a week (or at least I have the option not to).

I do admit that the NHL Gamecenter Boxee app advertising the preseason games with a "Watch" button was misleading. Hopefully they can improve it for the future. October 7 can't come soon enough. Go Pens!

The problem lies with those of us that are cable cutters since we don't have access to NHL Network or Versus. The way they're running it baffles me. They should be offering a better service with less restricitions since they're not on major networks or Local TV like Baseball is. Especially since it's more expensive than MLB.tv.

I am getting an error message when opening NHL Gamecenter.

"The following error has occurred: 'man'"

I tried to run the thing in debug mode, but I cannot find the Boxee logs from following the link posted earlier in this thread. I'm running Windows XP, but I have no folder called Application Data anywhere on my machine.

Can anyone either help me find my logs or explain the "man" error code please?

Thanks in advance.

This morning I got a slightly different error than yesterday. I got:

"The following error has occurred: 'pet'"

This error seems to be consistent today. Everytime I try to launch the app this error comes up.

Still the same error today.

I'm concerned that we won't be able to watch the games on opening day Thursday.

Where can we go for support?

I noticed that my PlayOn NHL was also having issues but updating to the latest version of PlayOn (which came out this week) fixed the issue.

I also contacted NHL Gamecenter Support (who has proven to be very responsive and helpful) -- hoping that will help the cause as well!

OK -- So I've submitted a Boxee support ticket, an NHL support ticket and emailed the recommended person listed above.

I suppose I can always exit Boxee and play the game directly from the website but that kinda defeats the point, doesn't it?!

Aside from Boxee's NHL being completely dysfunctional at the moment...

Did any of you have GameCenter in Boxee last season? I didn't, but I'm wondering... One thing I find odd is that in PlayON right now (today) I can watch 2009-10 games (like RedWings vs Coyotes playoff game 7 ). This is on my iPhone, too, which is pretty cool

When NHL was working in Boxee last week I didn't see anyplace to browse older games. Did Boxee support that kind of browsing last season?

Of course today, Boxee just errors out and does noting on the GameCenter App.

Also, it was interesting to note that PlayON isn't playing the pre-season games that show in the list but it will play the games from last season.

Here's the sequence on the iPhone using PlayON -- will the Boxee App do anything like this?:

Error changed to 'din'.

Foovanadil
October 8th, 2010, 09:28 AM
Yup error 'din' for me this morning.

Starting to get annoyed now. This is clearly a string parsing / string splitting error. The text snippet keeps changing because the content being parsed changes per day is my guess

How hard could this possibly be to fix.

I can see the game scores and times now but I can't watch Detroit vs Anaheim. It just has the gold bar that flashes to the left and right and never starts the video.

Can you actually watch something?

--------------------
Update 9:23 AM Eastern time:

I can actually pick any game now, however, it doesn't play the game -- it shows the library of "Classic Games" flash menu instead of the game video. I had this happening on my I.E. 8 loading games and had to clear my cache and delete cookies to get rid of the login info from the free pre-season login I created and use my actual real login I pay for.

Is there a temp cache dir that Boxee uses which I can clear-out and see if that fixes it?

darcilicious
October 9th, 2010, 09:50 AM
Try deleting the cache folder from your UserData (http://support.boxee.tv/entries/172855-userdata-folder) folder.

smirch1
October 9th, 2010, 12:43 PM
I deleted the cache from my user folder and I still get the same results: Classic games, and you can`t navigate to get to the NHL Homepage.

darcilicious
October 9th, 2010, 12:50 PM
You could try stopping Boxee, renaming the entire UserData folder, and restarting Boxee. You'll have to login again and you'll lose your user settings but as a quick and dirty test, it might help. And you can reverse the process to restore your original UserData folder.

Same issue here with ms. Subscribed to NHL Gamecenter Live today. Works on my computer. I can get to the game list inside the Boxee app, but clicking watch on a game just brings me to the "Vault" screen, with no navigation available. Here's to hoping this is fixed in 4 days, or I'm canceling NHL.

I think the issue have to do with the fact that gamecenter has changed their website address this season.

I get the same error on boxee as well, and couldn't even get it working on my PC because I kept going to gamecenter.nhl.com

This is last years address and will take you to the vault only. This years broadcasts are at: gamecenterlive.nhl.com

I have no idea why they changed it.

October 11th, 2010, 01:48 PM
I'm having this same problem (where it goes to the Vault instead of running the game I pick, and it's doing two things: discouraging me from subscribing to Gamecenter at all (because I NEED Boxee to work for it to be worth it to me) and discouraging me from buying a Boxee Box.

This free preview day is the day I can do my testing. Between this and the streaming-sources-don't-play-to-a-non-default-audio-device bug (which has seen NO movement in several months, because everyone's apparently too busy trying to ship a Box that I have no confidence will be fully baked when it releases), Boxee's worthiness as an NHL playback source has completely come into question.

So, congratulations, Boxee, you're in the process of costing yourselves AND your business partners money.

mlb5000
October 11th, 2010, 01:53 PM
Dead for me too. You can see it trying to connect to something but then just goes to the 'Vault'. I was hoping to try this today, but I guess I'll just have to use the browser. Bummer.

Also, I think the game tile interface will become a usability nightmare over time all the games are there and you have to scroll all the way to the right to find today's games. There's gotta be a better way.

Totally agree. I understand having a small dev team and having priorities and all of that but if you are going to announce a partnership with the NHL and offer an exclusive gamecenter then it should work.

There is a pretty good HockeyStreams app for XBMC (not sure if it will work within Boxee or not) That, at this point, is the best way to get streaming hockey games

crater
October 11th, 2010, 05:01 PM
Yeah, ditto. It launches to the vault page instead of playing games. Better than the error before i suppose, but not functional.

I hope this gets sorted. I hate having to sit on my laptop, get shit ready and then plug it all into the tv and sit back. I want a nice GUI to navigate without having to get up off the couch.

EDIT: I'm also concerned that one the game is playing, is there a way to select the feed I want? I don't want to get stuck watching the game without the commentators from my team. This all needs to be taken into account and then the GameCenter app needs to be updated/fixed.

This NHL GameCenter problem is extremely upsetting.

If you are using windows, you can get a free trial of playon for like 15 days or so from playon.tv

Playon transcodes hulu,NHL,MLB, etc to a dlna upnp stream for ps3, xbox360, etc.
Setup playon and add your NHL login info to the playon config screens.
In boxee you can add the upnp playon as a "local source".

Then you can browse files, go to the playon NHL stream and watch a game.

On my 5 year old dual core pc the quality sucks doing it this way but it's better than exiting boxee and going directly to the NHL website (my pc in in the wiring closet in the basement and the tv is in the family room -- hooked up via long component video cables).

Setup NHL

I am having the same problem. I log in and then select watch a game and it sends me to the vault. I hope this gets fixed because I want to get a boxee box and this will be one of the only reasons I will get a boxee box. I want to see how the quality is in boxee compared to watching it in a browser full screen. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Does that mean you can login using the gamecenter app or are you going through a browser?

We are all able to login, it just doesn't play the game we select.

EDIT: Now it is popping up a Would you like to update flash? prompt that I can't click on.

That's really weird. Because I've tried logging in probably about 50 times and it says my login is invalid. This is despite being able to login to nhl gamcenter live website and using playon. Anyone else notice this?

It strangely doesn't. When i go to adobe and click get the latest version I get "Your Google Chrome browser already includes the latest Adobe® Flash® Player built-in." I'm on OSX, maybe that has something to do with it. I'll try in firefox and safari.

EDIT: Yep, found an update via firefox, then no more message in Boxee.

Games also seem to be working now. wooo seems to be fixed. Awesome. No way to select which team's feed you want to see though. That's something i hope that gets changed.

I do do other python work on this box but considering you have your own python implementation, I'd hope there is no pollution.

update: looking at your /Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/system/python directory something jumps out at me: ./lib vs ./Lib. I'm using a case-sensitive HFS instance. I assume in a non-case sensitive drive these two directories would be merged.

Out of curiosity.. Are you trying to use your e-mail address to login? The website accepts both that and username, but Boxee only accepts username.

sorry for thread hijacking...just a couple questions now that I finally have it running. In the app is there a way to change the video feed between home and away? What about changing bitrates or going split screening 4 games like the website? Also is there a way to access the NHL vault?

I have successfully logged in now thanks to the people above, I needed to use both my username (not my email) and a password with no special characters.

I'm still having issues watching games however. Clicking a live game brings me to nhl classic games and clicking a game from the day before brings me to an endlessly spinning wheel.

I noticed on the blog today that the app is getting a total interface overhaul and being updated, but now that blog post is down. Here it is: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:g1KH8Cnd8RgJ:blog.boxee.tv/2010/10/18/the-nhl-boxee-app-is-getting-a-facelift-for-the-new-season/+http://blog.boxee.tv/2010/10/18/the-nhl-boxee-app-is-getting-a-facelift-for-the-new-season/&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Thanks.

New version is up!! Its pretty freaking awesome. only thing missing is Feed Selection and Start from the beginning of the live game options I'm gonna be pissed if I go to watch a Red Wings game and get stuck on the other side's feed. Will mean I have to exit boxee and open a browser window. Rewind and fast forward works very well. I am impressed. Verified you can rewind to before you started watching, however it could be very slow to get back to the start of a live game if you get home half way through the 3rd.

EDIT: Archived games play great, Very good interface.

EDIT: I seem to get the red wings feed on all the archived, i wonder if it goes by the Favorite team selection on gamecenter's options. If so thats awesome. If i'm just lucky/coincidentally getting it, then i'll cry when i have to close boxee and open a browser to get it.

Flames feed still said game starting soon.. i think its locked to the flames. FEED SELECTION DAMN IT! I don;t want to watch just the home feed, i'm thinking thats what it is defaulting to now.

NHL Gamecenter app on Boxee is very glitchy.

Why can't they get it right?

Further, at the very least you NEED to have the option to (a) start game from beginning OR (2) play game live.

Right now the boxee NHL app is just a giant fail.

I want to buy Boxee Box in a week ... but with these software issue I just don't think it's worth it until they sort out this stuff.

I'm not part of the Boxee team, but the reason for lack of feed switching and starting from beginning is that the NHL's site does all of that in Flash, and there's no way to do any of that without manually clicking. The NHL's site is what is defaulting to home feeds. There's no easy way to tell it otherwise, and as you can't click anything in Boxee's browser, you can't change it that way either. It's a tough spot, but I don't know what they could do about it short of getting the NHL to add something to their site to allow for it.

Don't quiet understand why the picture is so choppy. I guess you could say it's my setup. I have an asrock ion 330 running windows 7 overclocked to 2.0 ghz. However, if I go to a game "highlights" instead of live game, the picture looks flawless. Is that because it uses a lower bitrate at 1600 kbps (I'm assuming boxee is getting the feed from the condensed game tab on the website). If so, why not have a bitrate choice for the live games?

Same here. If I use chrome the picture is excellent, yoi can fast forward through commercials and skip 15 minute period intermissions. I appreciate the hard work that was done on this app and I'm sure it has to be limited somewhat by the nhl's website and it's "find waldo" design. It can rewind past when boxee starts watching, thus it is rewinding via the controls from the website, so it is using controls from the page, so changing feeds should be able to be implemented as well. It does use all the controls, except start from the beginning and feed selection.

Boxee looks way better for me than chrome/firefox/safari do. The quality is set to adaptive, so sometimes it starts low, over the first minute or so of the stream it jumps up in quality. The browser for me seems to not adapt properly, I don't know how to explain it but it seems to pause a lot and have to "buffer" a few seconds i guess, while it drops to lower quality (even though it should work on high for my network. It jumps back and forth, sometimes very often. when watching in boxee it doesn't seem to have this issue. I just can't watch road games in boxee for the red wings because I don't want to watch the home team feeds, need to hear Ken and Mick.

Hi there. New to the forum. I’ve been using the boxee gamecenter app on two computers with pretty good success for several weeks, but today, I finally got around to installing Boxee on my Apple TV (1st gen).

I can watch highlights but when I try to watch live games through ATV, I get the same flash message the quote above references and can’t do anything about it.

Any ideas?

Guys, we are currently limited to the nhl gamecenter flash app. Unfortunately no api controls are available and we are unable to have the player launch from the beginning via the url we call.

Currently we are working with them to be able to use their set top box api which allows for full http live streaming (like mlb). Once we get the go ahead from them we will start implementing another update that includes all many of the requested features in this thread.

We are aware of the issue you guys are having with playback quality and are looking into it.

PS - With the new webkit browser you will be able to fully control the flash player interface with the mouse.

I guess the most troublesome part of this whole ordeal is why you guys would release this NHL app when it is obviously not usable - I mean even at 800K mode the thing is as choppy as can be.

Hello testing anyone?

However, griping aside, I'm encouraged that there is an effort to improve this, because I like a lot of other users, purchased this device mainly because of its so called ability to stream NHL Gamecenter games.

It's already there on the BB. On other platforms, it will come with version 1.0.

I realize that. That's why it is a "loaded question". To put it more succinctly, when does version 1.0 come out for windows? I don't expect an answer other than the vague sometime next year...

Anyone having any issues where Live games say they're not yet available until 10-15 mins after the start time?

Just to make the earlier poster not feel alone, I wanted to add that I too am having the constant stuttering problem with the Boxee Box app. Pretty disheartening considering that I only got the Gamecenter Live subscription because the blog post made me think that it was really something special this season.

I am also having a delayed start time causing me to miss the beginning of games.

On a regular browser, NHLGCL feeds start at the right time (ie 7:30), sometimes a little bit before if there's a pregame. It seems Boxee won't launch a feed until the puck drops and an official 0 - 0 -19:59 score is recorded. Super frustrating.

I'm also having constant stuttering problems and a choppy frame rate. Last night it was very bad, the night before it was okay, and the night before that it was terrible. The stuttering happens at every quality setting, with every game/feed, and with both wifi/wired connections. Strangely enough, when the stutters happen you can actually see the player briefly pause itself. || > ||

Not to be a jerk...But! Those of us who have Game Center Live paid more money than ANY app on Boxee. This should be a priority at the highest level. If I have to watch one more game like this, I'm going to lose it.

You folks do know that hockey fans take this most seriously, right?

Do what needs to be done, please. My wife is also a hockey fan and now she's questioning the purchase of the BB, where I usually get Carte Blanche on the electronics purchases. You really don't want a ticked off lady NHL fan. At least I don't.

All kidding aside, this is way past out of hand. Please fix this...B

Most awesome of all... for last night's Wings/Flames game, NHL Gamecenter stopped streaming the game halfway through overtime. I didn't get to see the game winning goal and it ruined 1/82 of my season. It was bound to happen for how crummy this app is, but this is a new low. The NHL should be ashamed.

I complained to NHLGCL support about these issues and just received the reply:

"
Your request about Video Quality has been received on 11/22/2010 03:48 PM.

Our apologies for any inconvenience, however the boxee app is working without issues at this time.
"

So umm, that's not very reassuring for a fix

Isn't the Nhl Gamecenter App for Boxee developed by the Boxee team and not the NHL developers. So this is actually a boxee issue not NHL.

I just received my Boxee Box yesterday, the games won't even stream. They just from one frame to the next about every 10 seconds. The voice streams perfectly. I got this box just for this app. It sounds like my issue is worst then most, at least some of you see streaming video. I get junk with a green an purple bar covering 1/3 of the screen.

This did fix my issue. When I made the change, I didn't reboot the box, so I still had the issue. Once I rebooted, everything started working much better. It is a shame though, 1080i worked for a day for me and the video quality was much better.

How do you get the mouse to go down to the bottom of the app to select the feed (Home or away) that you want. Mine will not go low enough. This is a VERY FRUSTRATING $200.00. Was anything on this box tested, or did I pay $200.00 for the privilige to do this.

Patience. If the mlb app is any indication the NHL will be awesome as soon as they use http streaming (which they are apparently working on). The less they have to rely on flash the better.

I sadly returned my boxee box out of frustration and have been trying out the Roku XD. The only reason I even own a tv is to watch hockey btw. So far the Roku has been better but not perfect. The video is still a little choppy, not nearly as bad though. The picture isn't quite as sharp, like they're opting for the 800 quality instead of the highest possible, but I'm okay with that for now because the games are actually watchable (although I watched a few games on the laptop this weekend and they were also all showing up a little choppy and lowerquality, maybe it was just a low bandwidth holiday). They also have a nice barebones front end navigation that lets you pick feeds and start a game from the beginning before the video launches.

It's may be your connection. I watch games on my htpc using the chrome browser and got a great reception at 3000 kbps all weekend.

When is this issue with Game Center Live going to be fixed??? Does anyone at Boxee watch hockey? If you do, try to catch a game using your product. There is little in life more frustrating than to have a 3 on 1 going across the blue line, only to have the audio and video stutter every 10 seconds.

To make matters worse, we can't complain to the NHL, or anyone else about this. This leaves YOU GUYS for us hockey fans to get answers from. And all I have seen is backpedaling and broken promises and lame excuses.

It would be bad enough just to have a problem such as this when you are using a subscription that costs $160.00, but your OS is replete with issues that should have been hammered out BEFORE you ever released this box for sale.

I bet you just wanted the box out for the holiday season. You guys are going to have so many returns and perspective sales torpedoed from word of mouth, you can pretty much count yourself out of making a ton of cash.

This pains me to write this. I really, really believed in you guys. It is so sad to see the once mighty Boxee crippled like this. I'm sure that one day, if D-Link doesn't pull the plug, the BB will be rivaling HTPC boxes. I, for one, don't like paying $200.00 to be a damned beta tester.

As far as I'm concerned, you guys have a week to get it together and then the BB goes back to Amazon.

I would really like a response from someone at Boxee regarding this matter. When you have an app that links to an expensive subscription, and it doesn't work, this problem should be on the radars of the executives at the highest levels.

Yes. I am quite angry!

I bet a lot have. The wife is getting frustrated that we dropped 200 bucks on it and it can't even do what she wants, Netflix, and whenever I try to watch a game she can tell how frustrated I get. It's really sad altogether. Future adoption of Boxee will be hurt because of one tragic box. It has so much promise though that I'll keep it and hopefully one day be completely satisfied.

I don't think the box was ever ready for Prime Time. They rushed it to market for the Christmas buying season. I purchased it for two reasons also, NHL and NetFlix. I guess I will look at the new Roku boxes.

Don't give up on it man. I trust them that Netflix will be pretty killer on it. I also trust that the NHL thing will eventually be worked out. It probably won't happen as early as I like but it's better to wait it out then drop a bunch more money into it.

I agree. I'm assuming all those set-top boxes use http streaming so the quality will all be about the same. Now Boxee is working on that. The quality I'm hoping will be similar to the mlb app. Anyone go to the nhl gamecenter website recently? I don't know if it was a fluke but I went to watch the pens game last night during the game and it started from the beginning which was nice. I'm always worried I'm going to catch the score and ruin 2 hours of peace.

I have had that happen before. I was confused at first but that was a while back when that happened, not recently. It would be nice to have that on the BB and be able to easily jump, say 30 seconds at a time, to plow through commercials.

I agree. It's almost like the nhl pretends that commercial breaks aren't exactly 1 mintue 30 secons long and that in-between periods is about 17 minutes. Why put the patron through hitting the skip ahead 10 seconds thousands of times?

As others have pointed out, NHL games become skip-free if you go into your Boxee preferences and select the display to be 720p. Not ideal for everything, but I honestly can't see a difference when watching my local content (on my 1080p TV) and it has the added benefit of making the NHL DVR buttons clickable from my couch.

With this done, I get 3000 kbps playback without any hiccups.

Any movement on this?

Not sure why, but it seems smoother now. Still isn't broadcast smoothness, but at least it isn't skipping for me anymore and is tolerable. Didn't do anything special. I am leaving it on Adaptive though (which I wasn't doing before).

I agree it is better. Still it will be good when they go to http streaming like the mlb app. Should be much easier navigation, etc... It's most likely the NHL dragging their feet as they are known to be a little slow on the uptake.
