I believe Boxe thinks it is offline for some reason -- could your firewall be blocking Boxee for some reason

If your firewall is not the issue -- maybe uninstalling Boxee and re-installing it may fix the issue

* What is the specific router model and firmware revision
* What is the OS
* Can you try disabling the SMB scanner in boxee and see if that makes the issue disappear:
Edit guisettings.xml. Go to the '<smb>' section and add an element <client>false</client>, eg:

<smb>
<client>false</client>
...
</smb>

restart boxee and see if this helps

wow it would be great if boxee support would at least acknowledge my problem. How many times does it take for them to finally get back to emails?

It would be cool if I could at least try this thing.

Not looking like Im going to buy the box if this is what their support is like.

Suggest you file a bug report. Worked for me...

Also, you really think they are shaking over you not buying Boxee Box? Totally asinine comment.:rolleyes:

I already filed a bug report a week ago.

Posting comments about poor customer service is important. Ok should I not complain? When I used to run a forum we definitely took note of those. Negative comments is essentially a bad review directly on their site.
Maybe they will not care. But other potential customers might notice it.

I've got a Boxee Box a couple days ago from Amazon and registered/created account online but can't login the Boxee to use.

I keep getting the message "Boxee is in Offline mode .....". The boxee's light is Green and it's connected to the Internet. It's wired directly to Cable modem not through wireless router.

I bought the boxee to test at other friends house but none of of the cable work. Tech support told me they haven't had this issue before and don't know how to trouble shoot it!!! They told me to download "box161" file to upgrade the software version but still can't login.

How do I login to use? What's wrong with the Boxee?

Please HELP!!!

Would firewall have anything to do with it? How do I check into this and trouble shoot?

Thank you.

It does sound like a firewall block -- you need to check your firewall to see if 'allowing' Boxee through it resolves the issue

If you need assistance, you need to supply more info about your firewall/MFG'r/version -- or simply disable it for a moment to actually see if it is the cause of your issue - and of course turn it back on right away and proceed according to your findings

Got the same old "Can't make this happen" on trying to log-in/register, even though the "happy smiley face" showed I was connected.
I tried to manually set the IP address, and sometimes it froze, usually it displayed the following message: "Invalid IP address specified".

The problem was that my DHCP server (on my Level One WBR-3406TX wireless router) screwed up the Boxee Box's DNS configuration. It received 2 DNS servers, one of which had 4 (yes, 4!) digits in its last part (e.g. 10.0.0.2345). This is the cause for the "Invalid IP address" and why the Boxee cannot connect - DNS does not work.

It's a bug in Boxee. Weird, how does it represent IP address if not as a 32-bit integer?

Anyways, the fix? To manually configure the DNS. Set it to either the IP address of the router or the DNS server received from your ISP. You can also look in your Windows network connect to get these details. That's it.

Enjoy!

This thread is for the Boxee Beta Software on Windows -- some are posting here with issues about their "Boxee BOXES" - which should be posted in the "Boxee 'BOX' Help" thread

And your post should be posed in the "Boxee for Linux" thread - in the mean time you might want to check in the Boxee Beta's 'Settings/Network' and be sure "Enable HTTP Proxy' is not checked -- and be sure that under 'Servers' that 'Enable Webserver' in checked and that 'Web server port' is set to # 8800
