View Full Version : Wrong music recognition

November 24th, 2008, 05:12 PM

Running the newest boxee on ATV 2.3.

I added a lot of FLAC files, and most of them are recognized correctly.

Hower the album: Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is not correct.

The two best matches are:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Uplift Mofo Party Plan --->I dont want "The" in front of it, because all of my other RHCP albums are without
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk/The Uplift Mofo Party Plan/Freaky Styley ----> must be a triple album, and not the one I have

I can't see anywhere to change the information manually.

My question is, where does boxee get its music info from?

Is it possible to add something to this database just like the free cddb?

Or alternatively edit the album in the boxee index file (and how/where)?

Similar kind of issue.

I'm running Boxee on a Mac with Leopard and I have a fully tagged music library that uses iTunes folder hierarchy, that is "music/artist/album/track*.*

The album "Elephant" for "The White Stripes" is recognised as "Elephant, original soundtrack" which is obviously not right.

No matter what I put in the "wrong album?" query, Boxee will not update the reference.
I have tried with the following:
-the white stripes, elephant
-elephant, the white stripes
-the white stripes
-tom waits (for the sake of testing)

No list/choices are retrieved at all, the album stays with the originally displayed cover art and info.
This function seems to be working fine with video files though.

Just as well, closed the application and reopened without seeing any changes on this behaviour.

Also something that I'm wondering about (apart from the id3 tag recognition) and I believe that would actually make a lot of sense.
Would be to offer the possibility to import from other media managers, be it: iTunes, Amarok, Banshee, etc
That would certainly ease the migration path quite a lot for beginners, don't you think?

Similar issue here. I have "Taylor Swift - Fearless", which pops up with another artist album Fearless, also have "Damn Yankees - Damn Yankees", which pops up with Damn Yankees Soundtrack, and "Heart - Brigade" pops up as "Brigadoon Soundtrack".

It's disappointing to be missing several of the albums in my collection, and there's nothing really to be done, as mentioned above.

i have 350 albums, only 72 shows in Boxee, 4, yes FOUR, of them are correct..

Why not just use the ID3-tags? They have worked in every other app for the last 12 years.

I have started using Boxee on my iMac today and have been presented with a complete musical nightmare - Although my iTunes library is immaculately cataloged with title and accompanying correct Album Art Work for every album in my collection, Boxee has replaced so many albums with incorrect ones and has not been able to recognize 200 of my albums at all. I have every Beatles album ever recorded in my library and would have thought The Beatles being one of the best cataloged groups in the world Boxee could of accurately recognized each album or simpley used the exsisting Art Work and Album name from my iTunes application. What a mess. It looks like I have to actually play the Album first to establish that Boxee has actually change the album title somehow in the import process, identify the actual name of the album and then try and search for the correct/originally named album before it takes a punt on the next Album Art allocated. How do I import the 200 albums it can not recognize please? How do I correctly rename them? It appears that for example the title still remains i.e (1962-1966 Disc 1) but Boxee has removed the artist name from the import (The Beatles).
On some of the albums that Boxee has imported yet no Art Work for example: The Best of Chicago, Chicago - I type in the correct name of the album with a comma then the artist name and still the search does not come up with the album in the result or anything close so the album has no Art Work in Boxee yet as I say iTunes does not have one album cover missing and is 100% accurate. Maybe I should run my iTunes through my (CoverScout) software one more time to double check the files have all been transferred as ID3 tags? Is this a possible way? If so how would I re import the library a fresh from my local music folder? Wow - at the moment things don't look pretty at all.... LOL

we are aware that there are some issue with recognizing music boxee uses the artist - id3 tag however we know that it sometimes is not in sync with Itunes and it is something we are working on and will be improved in the future versions.

I've got more serious problems with music recognition:

1/ The Mamas & The Papas: The Greatest Hits is recognized as The Chamber Brothers: Greatest Hits

2/ Ricchi e Poveri: The Collection is recognized as Richie Havens: Collection

3/ Jana Kirschner: Shine is recognized as Para Disco: Shine

And many more !!!

Like someone else said, not allowing users to simply organize their music via their own ID3 tags is plain silly.

Boxee really should get this fixed. A simple "Use ID3 tags only" will do.
