View Full Version : Some of my issues... anyone have fixes?

I've been playing with my boxee box for about a day now, and in spite of a few hiccups I'm really liking it. There are, however, a few persistent issues I'm having that I'm wondering if anyone else has seen or if they've got any ideas for resolving them...

The first have to do with unidentified files. I'm a bit of a fan of anime... and I have a few Gundam series that never really got much attention in the US (G Gundam and Gundam X), so I wasn't TOO surprised when boxee couldn't automatically identify them, but then on doing a manual search it gives me some options including one (for each) that is right, albeit not entirely english, for both of them the only correct option comes up "Kidô shin seiki [gundam series name]". Selecting that gives me the error, "Sorry, unable to bring the movie details".

I'm seeing the same issue with another anime series, The Galaxy Railways, whose name (when found) is entirely in english too... So it can't be non-english characters, at least exclusively.

(Additionally confusing the english/non-english character idea is the fact that Sayonara Gengiru Expresiru Galaxy Express 999 or something like that - with many more accented characters - tagged just fine when I had to do it manually)

In fact, there are a lot of (mostly anime - but not all) titles who give the error "Unable to bring the movie details"... It's actually quite annoying.

I get the feeling that it's trying to pull from something that it can't actually connect to to do more than search on. I really wish it would quit that. It seems to pretty much only affect things identified as (TV) as far as I can tell.

The only other real issues I've had are that I can't connect (no matter what I do) to a WPA2-AES network, which is something I've heard other people grumbling about but thought maybe there was a workaround I hadn't found yet, and sometimes (for no reason whatsoever) the selector seems to disappear.

I'll be able to navigate around a page, or bring up the top menu, but nowhere will anything be highlighted. I can still hit the select button and it'll select whatever I clicked on, but I can't see what I was selecting. It will also persist, the next screen I go to will work just fine but if I go back to that same one (say it happened on Movies) I won't be able to see what movies are selected, and rather than moving one at a time when I try to select something else it will move an entire row at a time.

So... are these all just software issues I'll have to wait to get ironed out and the price of being an early adopter, or are there viable workarounds for them already?

I'm having the same problem, I have a lot of animes which wasn't automatically identified, I don't mind manually identifying them but I find anything that's identified as (TV) Boxee is "Unable to bring the movie details", I'm hoping it's just a software issue that will be fixed, can anyone from Boxee shine some light on this issue?

I have no "for sure" fix, but I was just able to fix this for one of my files by renaming it.

It was an episode of a popular TV miniseries, which has well-know episode names and numbers, but naturally only one season. In my case, the files were named "miniseries.name.Episode#.avi" and when manually searched, were not pairing with the proper selected episodes. I renamed "Miniseries Name (year) S01E##.avi" and everything looks good now.

Don't know if that will help you, but I imagine it will help someone.

we are aware of this issue "Unable to bring the movie details" with Tv shows and will be fixed in the future ..

Regarding WPA2 AES we are aware of issues with WPA2 TKIP and WPA AES but the all the other settings should work fine ..

Hi Marcel,

I'm using a Linksys WRT310N with OEM firmware v1.0.10.
I'm using WPA2 Personal with TKIP or AES selected "3600" re-key time in mixed mode.

It worked for me right out of the gate and I've had zero issues with my WIFI and the Boxee Box. I was using DD-WRT but it was giving me some problems prior to getting my Boxee Box, so I reverted back to the OEM FW.
