View Full Version : BB UK long delay from Amazon

I reordered my Boxee Box from Amazon Uk on October 26th and was expecting delivery on 16th Nov. Just got an email from Amazon saying its now been delayed until December 17th.
So not only do Boxee Box release a buggy version to the US but they are unable to deliver at all elsewhere.

I now have no confidence in this company whatsoever.

I ordered the Boxee Box on 31st October hoping for delivery on launch, however Amazon then moved the est, delivery date to 17th November then today i get an email telling me it wont arrive until 17th december. I would like to know if this is due to unexpected demand or poor logistics. Amazon.com is showing stock so why does .co.uk have nothing? Has anyone in the UK been able to buy one yet?

Your not the only one, myself and five mates have pre-ordered this, some as christmas presents.

I personally pre-ordered 18th September! I've seen 10th November, 15th November and now 17th December.

This is starting to be a complete joke, we need some actual clarification on when we'll actually be receiving boxee box, or I'm going to have to cancel my pre order.

May be they are holding back until all the problems are sorted...

What would these forums be like if the rest of the world had these boxes the state they are in now?

I think D-Link or Boxee had asked them to hold off sending them out.

Just my thoughts..

IOW

Also, Avner did say on Twitter yesterday that were working hard on adding UK specific content.
Maybe that and the buggy software has delayed things.

Very poor in my opinion, they have had months to sort this out.

Even so, 17th December is still ridiculous!

SteveTWT

I've had the same email as well. Other etailer still seem to be showing a November release.

I was actually thinking about cancelling my order since I read the reports about the new software not focussing on local content.

Can they mess this one up any more?

Very frustrating. Why don't Boxee, DLink or Amazon just say why its been delayed again.
They may well lose many Christmas orders

It was a huge mistake sending out the boxes with untested software, we beta tested 0,9 and its working fine to send these things out with v1 that was untested was stupid.

People are now paying to beta test a product.. and why anyone in the UK will pay an extra $100 to do this is beyond me..

My Revo recently died and I ordered a zotac id11 instead. Inspite of all the negative reviews, I cancelled the order and ordered a Boxee Box instead - esp. after hearing Avner ackowledging the current issues.

That being said, a December 17th ship date (Lord knows when mine will arrive as I only ordered it today) is extracting the proverbial! If that is true then I will definitely cancel my order and reorder the zotac instead and rebuild XBMC.

I have every confidence that the Boxee Box will evolve into the media device that I hope it will be - but I will refuse to buy it if the distributors keep on treating the ROTW as third world citizens - the price was hard enough to swallow, but to make us wait an inordinate amount of time (with no real guarantees) is about to become the last straw.

Thanks for looking into this Marcel - but please be aware that the Boxee Box is potentially becoming dead in the water outside the US - and that is a huge shame because once it reaches it's potential as a device, there is nothing to compete with it - but people like me may never know....

My order still says estimated delivery Tuesday the 16th

Was pre ordered yesterday after deliberating between the BB and the Popcorn hour A200, and chose BB despite all the negativity, but then again; having to wait another month when they are available elsewhere in the world seems a bit stupid!

As the title says, I'm another prospective UK customer of BB who is feeling more than a little neglected. It's fair to say, I was excited about the BB. I love boxee on my PC but to have it on the telly (and show it off to the family who I'm sure could have used the V0.9 interface) was going to be a real treat. That excitment, at the moment, has gone . . almost completely.

I have not yet cancelled my order as I'm looking into alternatives and the way I see it, the US "customers" are beta testing it for me. I would however like just some indication that Boxee recognise there are fans and potential customers outside the US. That might be enough to keep me hanging on.

Some info please and fast .

I'm very disappointed with the delay... as a result, I have cancelled my order with Amazon and went to the Apple store today and picked up an Apple TV. At least I have something to play with until the Boxee Box eventually surfaces in the UK (no doubt year or something else ridiculous) and hopefully, bug free...

i cancelled by amazon order and going to give broadbandbuyer.co.uk a try. they are still quoting tomorrow. will let people know what happens with this order.

does boxee have an update from the supplier?

am really looking forward to this product even with the bad reviews i have heard. currently using boxee on my apple tv and just looking for a more integrated experience.

all the initial issues seem like they can be fixed with software updates.

lets hope all these little slip ups isnt a sign of things to come for boxee.

Which company? Boxee makes the software, its D-Link to who does the hardware and distribution. Perhaps you should complain there.

I've cancelled my order, but I did so before the delay.

At least now I've got the option to order it from elsewhere should boxee either decide to revert back to the good software (0.9) or fix all the issues (access to local media, monitoring sources for updates, the bizarre home screen).

At the moment I'm looking for alternatives. I was also thinking of a first gen ATV on boxee 0.9 but I heard it struggles with high bit rate MKVs. Would be a third of the cost though.

D-Link does make the hardware, but Amazon.co.uk should have been aware that the product was not on its way. My Amazon account showed still the other day that the Boxee Box had an estimated dispatch date of the 13th of Nov., instead I received an email today telling me that it would be delivered around the 17th of Dec.

Amazon should have contacted their customers well before the dispatch date, to inform them that there will be a major delay.

May be D-link / Boxee told them not to send out boxes yet...
Look at the forums now, just think what it would be like with the English in here complaining about the box....

They may be holding the boxes back until they fix the bugs they have just found.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. It's common for retailers to stop selling products if the return rate is high as returns ultimately cost the retailer money. I've seen many people, as well as myself, who have cancelled orders over the weekend. It's possible amazon have systems in place to predict the return rates of products (I'd be very surprised if they didn't) and a high rate of last minute cancellations might be a variable they consider. Especially where the product is available in other territories first. It's also possible that they take into account return rates in other territories, and I would imagine many have been returned in the US.

I don't now how advanced Amazon's systems are for detecting and predicting this behaviour but any basic sentiment analysis would highlight a storm brewing.

Based on responses from Avner and Marcel it doesn't appear Boxee as put a hold on sales. Maybe Amazon, but that's just speculation. I think they're still available on Amazon US so don't know why they put a hold on another market if they were holding the stock. Ring Amazon UK and they can probably tell you.

Weird? What the hell is going on with this thing!

From Tweets made by Dabs and a post in the discussions on the Amazon.co.uk site about the Boxee Box, Wednesday is the day the UK retailers get stock.

Based on the fact that Dabs, Scan and the other retailers in the UK seem to be saying it will be limited stock, maybe that figure of 250 for the entire UK was correct??

We'll never know unless someone from Boxee or D-Link posts here or on Twitter I guess.

Amazon sent me an auto-generated email last night saying that the new estimated date of them getting the BB is Nov 19-22nd...so, slipped again, but still not the December dates some people were talking about.

This could of course be because I am further down the order queue - some of you with older pre-orders might still get yours shipped Wednesday.

Have you actually logged into Amazon and checked what it says there? I ordered mine on 15th November and in the early hours of this morning I got an email saying it was delayed until 17th December. However, when I logged onto Amazon it says it will be dispatched on 19th November. Amazon was showing it as in stock with 5 left at the time of checking, so I'm hoping that 19th November is actually the correct date and that the email notification was wrong.

I'm hopeful that my box will be delivered tomorrow as stated in the image below, I can no longer cancel my order which means it is being processed.

http://www.coolastenbears.com/temp/ama-box.jpg

I only pre ordered ten days ago, but I am a Prime customer.

I checked the order about 2am last night and it still said it was dispatching today, although I was sure there was no possibility of that. Also confirming that last night, there boxee box was showing as out of stock on the amazon website, and now shows as in stock.

I can't think of a single instance where a day 1 product, including electronics and high profile games has arrived on release day via amazon. If thats the kinda service you require, it would be best to go elsewhere, I know I will be.

i checked amazon & it still said december, so i've just rang them and told them the situation (my order had been delayed, yet the site said in stock) and the nice girl on the line told me that it was a bug in the inventory system (as usual) and to cancel my order, and then re-order the item with desirered delivery and then everything "should be" ok.

Have been reading the forum for the past week, just registered this morning - many thanks to all for the useful information, particularly within this thread.

Like others, my Boxee box was on pre-order with Amazon, first expected to be dispatched on 13th November, then updated to 16th December - I'm glad to report that my order status has now been updated again to "Dispatching Soon", with an expected delivery date of 19th November :D

I am naturally concerned about the teething troubles with the box, but this is currently displaced by the excitement of a new gadget (hopefully) winging its way to me!

Thanks again for all the useful info so far,

Amazon said the 17th Dec and dabs the 24th Nov. Guess what they both shipped within 3 hours of each today so now I can't cancel either.
