View Full Version : Meta tag support

new to boxee with an initial observation...

will (does) boxee support id3 or flac tags?

i have ripped my cd collection to flac with dBpoweramp to include track numbers and embedded album art. is it possible for boxee to sort concert albums, for example, by track number so that the files play in the order they were presented on the cd?
i have also noticed that most of my audio files do not have album art in boxee even though the proper images are included in the id3 and flac tags. is this something that could be included in future versions?

please point me to the proper documentation if this has been addressed elsewhere.

Hi dx2gabe

boxee does support id 3 tags regarding flac tags will need to check this.

regarding the album art which is included in the id 3 tag ,this will probably be added in future versions.

I have the same here too. All files have correct album-art in iTunes and they're embedded in the files too (just to be sure and via a seperate app). Boxee seems to ignore this info and pulls everything from the web. It would be nice if Boxee would read the database file from iTunes instead of scanning the music folder. If it's missing than pull it of the web.

Reality is that a WHOLE lot of people use iTunes for all their music (who hasn't got an ipod?). They have put time and effort in it so they won't be happy to re-tag and adjust their whole collection which is in most cases.. big (read a lot of work). A Media Center is just so much more useful and powerful when everything has album art because it's just easier to recognize when browsing large media collections.

And people with 'loadsa" media files are the ones that are going to use Boxee. (or are already)

Same here. a LOT of albums (which have correct metadata) are being identified as the wrong album because of the filename.

think I'll eventually fix it by just using an app like tag & rename to rename all of my files. but I'll wait with doing that untill boxee is out of alpha ;-)

Hi Asmodean

Can you pm some examples of the filenames that are being identified incorrectly ?

Do you tray and resolve any of them using the recognize option?

cheers :)

I'll PM you some examples after I do my ubuntu reinstall..

FWIW.. My library also contains of tagged FLAC's (no mp3), which may be part of the problem.

and the recognize option does indeed work on most albums, but doing that for 100+ albums.... Yikes .. ;-)
