Here’s an easy workaround, using your PC’s browser: Simply bookmark all the video sites you plan to access on your Boxee Box via Delicious.com with the tag boxeemark. Then log into Boxee.tv on your desktop, go to your list of feeds and add the Delicious RSS feed with your Boxee bookmarks (it should look like this: http://feeds.delicious.com/v2/rss/username/boxeemark). Fire up your Boxee Box, go to the apps and open up the RSS Feeds application. One of the feeds displayed will be your Delicious feed, offering access to all of your bookmarked websites, which will open in the Box’s browser. I noticed that Boxee is sometimes a little slow to fetch the latest bookmarks, but it’s still a neat way to get easy access to web content. By Janko Roettgers

This is really good info. I'm having trouble signing up to delicious from both Firefox and IE. Has anyone been able to make this work without using yahoo? I'm thinking something like the Firefox Sync add-on or something similar.

Thanks OBX! It took me a while to compile them all, but I thought it was well worth it!

I use delicious on Chrome and sign-in with my yahoo account...not sure how to do it with the other browsers...

I am thankful for all the hard work people do to make the 3rd party Repo's for us to use on Boxee Box! Navi-X is a great App, so make sure you check that out also! I use it the most since it has almost all my shows on it and so great movies:cool:

I haven't tried the above links specifically but what I do is on Windows using Firefox is drag/drop the URL icon from Firefox into a Folder on the Windows computer that Boxee Box can reach.

Then from Boxee I navigate to that Folder, click on the .URL file then click on Play and after several seconds, the Boxee Browser loads up the shortcut URL.

xavier32178 -- I'll try navi-x. Might also look at chrome.

Darcilicious -- I like the idea, but not sure I've got it. On the bbox, you are going to "Files", highlighting the shared folder on the pc and then clicking play? Sounds too good to be true.

Through the file browser on the Boxee Box, you navigate to wherever the URL is saved/located and "play" it, just like you would with any other file.

Update: I tried the url's from my pc and get a samba sharing problem. I'll have to investigate that one. However, I copied the folder to my hdd connected directly to the bbox and it seems to be working. Even better as I don't have to use the pc.

Thanks for the tip.

I set up a folder, copied the url's above to the folder, set the folder's share permissions and it shows up under "Files" in Boxee. Double click the url, then play. Voila. Looks as if some url's may not work since they have multiple videos at the site, but I'm not that far along yet.

It can't be done - the Browser in the desktop app will not let you click on any links once you enter the RSS page - and the BBoxs' browser will

Ok... I'm going to show my Boxee ignorance. How do I do this on the Windows version of Boxee? The current version of Boxee for OSs (aka DIY versions) don't have a working browser so these links won't work.

Once the v1.0.x is released for DIY Boxee platforms, the new browser (webkit-based) will be included and watching content via the browser will work.

Looks as if some url's may not work since they have multiple videos at the site, but I'm not that far along yet. I'm not sure what you mean by this -- the Fox site has several videos listed, all I had to to was move the cursor to the video I wanted to play and click/select it.

I'll give it another shot. Still early in my tries and I've been bumped for Sunday Night Football. I'll report back when I get back on the box. On my pc though, the fox url does not load and finally gives me "too many consecutive failures" A similar url, the cw, loads and I can move the cursor around, but cannot play any of the videos. On those that I have tried that are live, fox news, nbc, etc. I have no problem.

For those that aren't as plugged in as our moderators, there are some other links too -- cbs, versus, natgeo, etc. They can be found at:

Alright, I tried everything Xavier said... and they just work flawlessly with the BOXXEE BOX. I've them live channels as long as they are live in them sites.
Not only that, I added a few from this other website:
hxxp://wwitv.com/most_viewed_now.htm

Man after that, sky is the limit. The biggest annoyance of all these is that u've to maximize the Video to full screen manually everytime. I hope boxee update in the future will fix that full screen issue.

@OBXPirate.....Yeah the only bad thing with some of the Live streams is when the host stops the stream. I did notice that they seem to bring them back on almost every day....The Fox News one seems to always be on:cool: I feel with those links and the Navi-X App I can pretty much watch all the shows I like. Justin.TV App has been great for watching most of the Football games that are on Live

If you guys find any other Live Streams or other good links feel free to add them here so I can save them to my bookmarks:D

Correct, this is for the Boxee Box only. Until the OS/DIY versions get the new Boxee Browser, you will not be able to navigate/select links.

Been adding these live links to a repo app that everyone can access. Script/app then pulls in submitted links, and creates the boxee rss feed. Very basic skinless app, but does the task.

Repo: dir.streamfree.tv --> guest pass app

Feel free to add your own links to the database. Links should show up immediately on the box.

I've been adding live streams to sftv's live stream app. There are a few good ones up and running now. You can just add the repository (dir.streamfree.tv) and choose the live stream app and you should get a list of feeds. Some of the feeds require you to full screen the window manually for now. Hopefully in the future this can be automated. There is instructions over there on the forums on how to add your own live feeds as well. The guest pass app also works very similarly to the live stream app. You can add your links and they will show up in the apps (you may have to reboot the app in boxee to refresh the list).

Sounds like you're encountering popup windows/new windows, which aren't supported at the moment. The next firmware update will bring major browser improvements. Not sure if they will cover links opening in new windows though.

Workarounds include what bioscript suggested (which I have not tried yet) or dragging and dropping the exact URL (whichever NBA game you wanted to watch) into your network shares, and then accessing that URL shortcut file through the file browser.

We're currently working on adding more streams. We only have one developer as of right now so if anyone is interested in joining the effort, please let me know. The goal is to create an all in one live tv app which makes the transition from cable/satellite seamless.

Sorry for the noobie question, but I'm confused about the link vs feed thing - specifically this link http://www.atdhe.net/ and this feed feeds.feedburner.com/boxee-atdhe

I've been using several of the other links as shortcuts in a network file on my hdd connected to the box and also in the apps discussed here. Both work well. In this case, where do I put the link and where do I put the feed?

I also found it worthwhile to add the link to boxlive.tv to my list of links. It is: http://www.boxlive.tv/channels. I did this because new channels come and go and also because some, like HBO, use multiple url's. Just easier (for me) than going through the whole "offline" thing.

OBXPirate,

If you login to your account at boxee.tv, you can choose feeds and then add the feed to your feeds list. In order to get to your feeds from boxee, you just have to go into your apps and launch the RSS Feed app. The feeds you have added to your boxee.tv account should be there for your viewing pleasure :)

OBXPirate,

Make sure once you choose the feeds tab at boxee.tv that you click "Add an RSS Feed" which is right beside the "Search My Feeds" Box. Make sure you are pasting this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/boxee-atdhe and then click add. It should show up as ATDHE.NET in your feeds list. Then in boxee launch the RSS Feeds app and ATDHE.NET should show up as one of your Favorite Feeds. Just click on that in boxee and it should populate a list from the Feed. Hope this helps you clear it up.

Also keep in mind that some of the items populated from the Feed may not play correctly in the boxee browser. You may also have to manually full screen the ones that do work.

I can get ATDHE.NET to show up in BBoxs' RSS app but the only functional links are the two at the top of the page (Live Sports and Live TV) - all of the links below these two are not functional - they change a little when the pointer scrolls over them but do not take you to their content when clicking on them

EDIT - OK got it now - was putting in the wrong URL - thanks

Strange behavior. I have the feed working. (Thx for verifying how to add it.) Interestingly, it shows up when I search for it in the rss app and it shows up in "recently added" on the pc. It does not show up in my a to z list on the pc or the box. Guess that's why I didn't see it the first time through. Maybe it just takes time to populate. Obviously something with boxee though, not with the feed.

Here are instructions for installing the Live TV Streams app which has many of the streams available on ATDHE.NET:

In order to access the app, you first need to go into boxee apps and then select add a repository. Add a new repository "dir.streamfree.tv". Once it is added just select it and go inside and you'll see a list of apps in the repository. You can launch the "Live TV Streams" app which has a list of live streams. You can add this app to your favorites if you like so its easier to get to later.

You may have to maximize the video streams manually using the up/down/left/right buttons on the remote to move the mouse and choose full screen on the video. We are working on improving the app so if you have any ideas/suggestions or questions please feel free to stop by our forum http://streamfree.tv/forum/ and let us know. There are also instructions in the forum on how to add new streams that you find or you can just let us know what you want added and we'll do it for you.

The only thing Boxee is missing for my purposes is a veetle plugin. If you could set one up, you'd have my greatest appreciation and a donation (if you take them).

Thanks for all your hard work!

stef@n,

We're looking into the veetle plugin. We are finding that a lot of streams require this. Hopefully it won't be too long until we find a solution since we've found 2 more developers who are looking to contribute. Of course donations are welcome and much appreciated. You can find the link to do so in the upper right hand corner of our homepage which is linked in my signature.

Also feel free to stop by our forums and help us improve the app by giving us your suggestions and feedback!

Great app, bioscript. Do you know if there us a way to hide the QuickTime controls, for example on bbc2?

We may have to put the feed through a custom player in order to hide those controls. Can you stop over at our forums and start a thread regarding this issue? If it is possible can you give us a screenshot or something to show us what you are talking about? Our developers will look into it when they get a chance. We have a bunch of things on our list to do so we'll try to get to it ASAP!

fperrotta,

We are working on implementing auto full screen. I know that a lot of the content auto full screens if you are running a computer version of boxee. If you are running the boxee box then most of it won't full screen automatically. I too dislike having to move the cursor to select full screen mode. We will hopefully have this taken care of soon enough

Thanks for the request!

On the computer version you should be able to just move your mouse and the cursor/pointer should pop up and allow you to click to full screen.

Thanks for the link to the ESPN2 stream. I added it to the app and you should now be able to find it under the sports category. If you have any other requests or find any other missing streams or dead links please let us know on our forums.

Also please bear with us as we don't have nearly enough help to keep things running smoothly. We are still looking for help so if anyone is interested please let me know. I just want to say this is really cool. About a year and a half ago i watched some games on atdhe but they would be buffering every 30 seconds or so. Started reading this thread and thought well , lets see if its any better. Bam !!! There they are on my 50" plasma. No buffering. I went on espn hd and its quite clear on my tv.

The only reason i pay for satellite in canada is for sports. I get my tv and movies elsewhere. I have 6 months left on my contract but I think Bell is going to get the finger.

Will more hd channels for sports be available soon ? Will sites like atdhe.net be streaming better quality channels/hd ?

Thanks a lot for all your work Bioscript

chaluga,

I'm glad the app is working for you. Unfortunately we do not control the channels. People who use the app send us links to streams they want added and we add them as long as they work on boxee. Once Silverlight is supported, we will be able to get more streams up.

Unfortunately, we do not control the channel feeds. All we do is provide the app which allows boxee users to view these streams on their tvs. The quality of the channel depends on the quality of feed. If we could find some people who would be willing to be dedicated streamers through sites like justin.tv then we would be able to offer higher quality channels. So if anyone knows anyone who does this type of thing and is willing to partner to help us improve the quality please let me know.

Also if you know of any better quality streams let me know and we will add them to the app.

In terms of channel quality I am wondering more about sites like atdhe being able to take advantage of increased bandwidth. I am making the assumption that with increased bandwidth they will someday be able to stream 720p quality ?

In my area you can now have 100mbit line downloading at 11mb/s. This isn't a seedbox but a home connection. I guess if 20 000 people are trying to stream a game at once it does pose problems. I am not complaining, just wondering ?

bioscript

chaluga,

Encoding plays a big part. The veetle plugin for instance uses higher compression and thus allows for better quality with the same amount of bytes. Silverlight is another encoding scheme. Some of our channels are feeds coming from boxlive which uses the flash player. Boxlive probably allots a specific amount of bandwidth to each stream. The pipe is only so big. With only 10 users, there is plenty of bandwidth to share. However, with 2000 users, you run into buffering/stuttering problems.

With time, quality will get better. It all comes down to money and who is paying for the bandwidth. The best we can do right now is use the browser flash player. Maybe html5 will give us more flexibility.

chaluga,

Unfortunately, we have no control over the way in which adthe delivers the streams. In fact I would venture to say that adthe doesn't really have control either. I think that they are just providing a central place to find the streams sort of like what we do with the LiveTV app. As far as the type of plugin required to view the stream, we are working on trying to add this functionality. Some of the plugins look as if they are going to have to be re-written for boxee. If anyone has any experience in this area and is willing to help out let me know.

Thanks man, --- already watching it on ATDHE.NET via Delicious/Boxee feeds

Comparing it to my HD Dish TV receiver, the PQ's not quite as good (as expected) but the feed through ATDHE/Boxee is coming through faster than the Dish broadcast (which, of course is traveling 44,000 miles round trip) up/down via satelite

Gettin' a little closer to cuttin' the cable/satelite :)

It is a good game. I have comcast services and I got a phone call 2 weeks ago regarding my bandwidth usage. I guess the unlimited internet service isn't unlimited. They give you 250gb a month and if you go over your account gets flagged and you run the risk of getting your service shutoff.

My ISP here in a fairly small town probably isn't to concerned bcz I'm quite sure most of their customers here don't use the I-net like I do (and of course you and many other Boxee owners do)

As a matter of fact my ISP just upped the download speed by 'double' - and the upload by 10 times, without a price hike, and believe it or not, not even an announcement about it - Go Figure! --- maybe it's a preclude to a download limit - hope not!

When was the last time you powered down your Boxee Box? Try powering it down and then load the LiveTV App and see if they update. I noticed the streams didn't usually update on my Boxee Box when I added more unless I powered my Boxee Box down first. I also added some UK streams today to my tab "Xavier's Picks". The NBC stream was playing CW some of this morning and then was back to NBC. These streams are from stations all over the US, so some might be in different timezones and not be playing the same shows as your cable or satellite provider. I will get on and test those and other streams now.

Thanks for the heads up!

The NBC/CW stream is working and so is Food Network....I would say powering down your box will fix the updated streams for you like I mentioned in my reply above. Let me know if it doesn't! Also, are you using the Boxee Box firmware RC2 1.0.3.17064/5 (released Jan 13th /14 th)? The browser seems to work better from what I can see and might help the streams run better;)

Got some great news everyone! :D

Hello World,

Today we are glad to announce a partnership with StreamFree.tv, the folks who make Live TV for Boxee to bring their channel data into Navi-X for availability as well!

What this means is you can now view channels from LiveTV in Navi-X as well! This partnership will allow it so when StreamFree.tv adds additional streaming channel content, it will automatically aggregate into Navi-X as well for your viewing pleasure!

This will currently only work with Boxee since XBMC does not have browser support at this time. We will look into a processor for this to bring it into XBMC as well! Thanks to Matt and Rich at Live TV for all their help, support and service to the Boxee community for providing a new dynamic to Navi-X... Live TV streams!!! Best of luck to them in the future with this endeavor!!
