I used BananaVPN for a UK connection and it worked great. Not the cheapest (or most expensive) option available but it did the job.

Would help ALOT if you actually stated two very important things.

1. From
2. To

And also if you any special needs.

After testing pretty much every service provider (from canada to USA), i finally
choose StrongVpn. Not the cheapest but man....it is FAST and reliable. Only one downside, you cant be connected from multiple IP at the same time (home, office, ipad), but, you can by a second "a la carte" add on for 2$ per month. I get a steady 58mbits/sec from home using pptp.

I've used Bolehvpn for almost a year know. VERY good pricing and speeds and the customer service is top notch.

Does that work on the Boxee Box? From what I've read, it seems that you need to install a client application to use it which wouldn't be possible on the Boxee Box.

wait maybe we are confused here.... when I say VPN I use it to create mapped drives to my office pc's harddrive from my laptop at home..

why would you need or want to use VPN service with the Boxee Box? I don't see the need?

unless we are talking about two different types/uses of VPN?

Open VPN. I can use it on all of my Desktops and Boxee box at the same time in my home. It works via openvpn on my desktops and PPtp for the boxee.

I'm in the US. I want to view content from the UK but can't because it's geo-blocked. I get a UK VPN, configure Boxee to use it, looks like I'm in the UK, and Bob's your uncle! I'm able to view UK content.

Of course that only works if your mum or dad has a brother called robert :

I want the box to function AS a proxy as well. So I could connect ONE program from my computer through it (as opposed to the entire system using a VPN as happens under windows)

Mainly from outside US to inside US. I live on the island of Guam, strangely, we are part of the US territory, but can not get some content over the internet. Not all, but some.:(

Is this still the case? I'm with Teksavvy and get 20-30 MBPS no cap. I've also been looking at Hide My Ass. There's so many to choose from but I want to make the RIGHT choice. I've also heard BlackVPN is good to. I've got netflix and am getting the Boxee box next week. I'm in Kitchener.

I'm in Australia and setup the box to use UnblockUs (1 week free trial) with Netflix - works a treat! Only had to change the DNS setting in the boxee box to get it working, no other configuration/router changes.

It's US$4.99 a month after the trial, so comparable to others like StrongVPN.

Hi!

I live in Europe and use ibVPN to connect to US geoblocked sites since January. I am very happy with them. It offers you 4 US different servers and one Canadian for only 36,95 $ a year. It's the cheapest with 100% reliability I found. You can try it for free during two hours, you don't need more to see they are the best :)

Another vote for UnblockUS DNS service.
Works for US/ UK content, no need to switch VPN connections.

Have used it for Netflix/ BBC iPlayer and it worked very well on ipad and boxee box. Costs 4.99 CAD per month.

Use Unblock.us. Does not have to configure other settings than dns. You can even configure Your Router with their DNS and do not need to change Dns on Your Appliances. No Speed loss like vpn. Stable and good.:D

So you can see both the Netflix app and BBC Iplayer app on Boxee Box? I thought that this wasn't possible with the newer boxee box firmwares because they chack the ip address before they show you the available apps?

You retain your IP addres, but through the magic ;-) they perform at UnblockUS they make your request look like it's from the correct country, ie US for Netflix, UK for BBC, means no disconnecting and reconnecting, it's really easy. Just change the DNS on the connection and you're laughing.

I think they still do a week free trial, well worth it.

OverPlay include SmartDNS in the standard subscription, similar idea, except with more Countries supported and VPN to fall back on incase your ISP intercept/poison DNS.

Agreed, a great service if you need a full VPN, but if smart DNS is all you need (like the above) then UnblockUS is half the price per month.

PlayMo.tv (another provider) is free also, while in Beta.
