Just wanted to see if there was a procedure to unplug an external hard drive from the Boxee Box usb slot like there is on a PC. Searched but did not find an answer. Thanks

Dont think so, i just tend to turn boxee off and disconnect. You dont have to safely remove on PCs anymore guessing the same for Boxee but just being cautious :)

Saying that I only do it when disconnecting large disks. USB pen drives just pull them out.

In File > Browse there is an Eject option in the upper right corner (it looks like the standard eject symbol). Selecting that brings up a menu showing the connected drives and you can select one to "eject" it.
To be on the safe side it is probably best to use that before disconnecting, but the only time that I have had an issue when I haven't done that was with an SD card rather than a hard drive.

I've found if I don't use that eject button before removing my drive from the BB to connect it to my Mac, my Mac won't mount the drive until I open Disk Utility and try to mount it manually (which fails, tells me to repair the disk, and then it magically mounts without needing the repair).

So I guess my point is, if the BB is on, it takes 10 seconds to navigate to the eject button and eject it properly, which will save you some trouble after :)

What's the procedure for a PC? I always just unplug it and have never had any issues. Of course you would not do this while being written to, but once I've copied my data to it I always unplug it and there have never been any issues.

For my Boxee Boxes I do the same. I just unplug it when finished looking at content on the drive and it has not caused any problems with the two USB powered hard drives I use.

Something like this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Safely-remove-devices-from-your-computer

Not that I have found it all that necessary every time either but I do use it regularly at work because one of my Outlook archive folders is on an external drive and Outlook won't always let go nicely :p
