Just updated Boxee to latest version via Ubuntu update manager (27/8) and now when I go into Music none of my mp3s show up.

I have all my mp3s on a separate partition so with the previous version I just added this partition as a source and all the artists just showed up after a few minutes of number crunching. Since the update none of my artists show up.

I can go into Music/My Sources/Mp3 Partition and all the files and folders show up fine, but they are not showing up on the Music screen listed as Artists like they used to.

I've found that if I play one of the individual mp3 files from Music/My Sources/Mp3 Partition it will sometimes then make that artist show up on the Music screen, but mostly it doesn't.

I tried deleting the source and then re-adding it under a new name in the hopes that Boxee would then find the artists like it did originally with the previous version but this didn't fix the problem.

I'm now finding that every few minutes Boxee has added a seemingly random Artist from my mp3 collection to the Music screen, then the next time I go into the Music screen a different artist will randomly be showing up.

I didn't run into this problem on my PC (Hardy)
But I did on my GF's Mac.

I did all the same stuff: deleting, readding, renaming, setting private then un-private.

Finally, I just deleted her profile folder, and started fresh. (~/.boxee/UserData/profiles/[boxee-user-name])

Worth a shot, but I would back-up the folder to some other place.

thanks for this report.
it will be cool if you can compress and send me (email to vulkan@boxee.tv) the database file that boxee creates (if it is not too big).
it is located under ~/.boxee/UserData/Database/boxee_media.db

thanks again.

I nuked the folder but it didn't work for me. I did a reinstall in Synaptic, still no joy.

News update:

I deleted my entire .Boxee folder to fix another bug (see here (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=340) for the back story). After that Boxee started adding my music collection very slowly in reverse alphabetical order, but it stopped when it got to Q. Specially Queens of the Stone Age

I deleted the entire .Boxee folder a second time and repeated the whole process, this time it successfully went through the entire alphabet!

I now have a complete set of artists! (aside from the stuff pertaining to this bug (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=250).)

cool.
music scan is a bit slow because of all the metadata retrieved per album. and sometimes per track. so this is lengthy and may take a while.

I dont know if my memory is playing tricks on me. But with the last version of Boxee I seem to remember that if I left it on the Music screen as it was adding the artists you would see the new artists popping up and pushing the previous entries down in real time as they were added.

This time round I would have to navigate to another menu and then come back again before the list was refreshed with the new artists.

Just an observation.

it was always like that... was never updating in realtime. a refresh is required. :)

The same thing happened to me. But Boxee seemed to make it all the way to E (started backwards) then stopped. However there are still things it skipped. All of the music is well organized (P/Pink Floyd/Animals/02 - Dogs.mp3) ID3 tags are all accurate, like most people I'm a little ocd about that.

When I tried to "recognize" one of my songs, which was a 112 song from album 112, track 5.... boxee added it but made it track 1 the intro track. Didn't find a way to manually change it. It had the correct tag, i checked it was track 5.

I havn't tried any of the fixes mentioned yet. Will try this after work today ;)

Well I decided to just delete the .boxee folder and restart. Same thing happened. Stopped adding music at E from working backwards. One thing I did notice is that ALMOST everything it didn't add didn't have all the songs to the album in it. If i try to recognize an album thats say missing track one, boxee adds it but then makes track 2 be 1, 3-2, 4-3 and so on. I isn't seeing that I don't have all the tracks. That sucks a bit. Hope this is something they are working on.

@riegersn, it sucks more than a bit.

please see http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=377 for enabling debug log, remove your .boxee, start from scratch, and when it stops, close boxee, and email me the resultant log file. tsella at boxee tv
