Waited 30 min and rebooted again and screen goes RED again then to black. Waited another 30 min. rebooted and now it goes to black screen. Thanks allot. I manually update the Boxee software All is good now.

Your Boxee Box will automatically prompt you(when available) to download the latest firmware at start-up. You can also check to see if there is a newer version of the firmware(without a restart) by going to Settings > System > Check for new version of Boxee.

If you are still having trouble then you can download the firmware to a PC, copy it to a flash drive, and then install the firmware on the Boxee Box. Just following these instructions:

Download the latest Boxee Box firmware at http://www.boxee.tv/download/boxeebox. The downloaded file will be named boxee.iso, and that name must be maintained.
Copy the boxee.iso file to a thumb drive. Make sure to properly eject the flash drive after copying the file.
Power down the Boxee Box.
Power up the Boxee Box by pressing and holding the power button for 6-10 seconds. Upon release, the Box will boot with the logo turned orange.
After the Recovery Menu appears, connect your thumb drive to the Boxee Box, wait 2 seconds, then select Upgrade from USB from the menu, and follow on-screen instructions.

Anyone have any suggestions if the Recovery Menu doesn't appear? When I press power for 6-10 seconds then release, the Boxee logo turns orange like it's supposed to and I see the briefest flicker of activity on the screen. Then the screen goes black and stays that way.

Anyone know of a way to fix this? Thanks.

I also have problems with entering the recovery screen after a failed installation of the new update.

After reboot, my boxee freezes in the gray loading screen while the Boxee logo blinks red / green. When trying to enter recovery screen by holding the power button (yes, I have tried holding it for everything from 5 to 30 seconds), it boots as before: freezing in the loading screen.

My Boxee Box is completely useless at the moment :( How do I reinstall the update when I can't enter recovery mode??

Turn the box off for about 1 minute. Press the power button and hold it for around 10-12 seconds. Release it and the recovery menu SHOULD show up after the grey "boxee loading" screen.

I've had that issue once or twice. It seemed that I was too anxious to wait the needed time.

Doesn't work for me. After that brief flicker of signal when I release the power button (after 8 seconds, or 10, or 12, or whatever), there is no loading screen and no recovery menu or video of any kind, and no audio.

I think my box is dead. I guess I'll have to arrange an RMA. I submitted a support ticket Thursday night, but no response yet.

I've seen in other threads, that pulling the power cord, waiting about a minute then plugging it back in and then pressing the button for about 10 seconds helps some.

I would suggest this also - and possibly even hold down on the power switch for a few moments while the power cord (and all other cables too) are unplugged

I'm experiencing similar issues with my Boxee and realized that the latest Fware update rendered the thing useless on my TV only. It works just fine in my computer monitor. I couldn't even see the reset menu on my TV, so I ended up doing a factory reset on my monitor - everything worked fine. I did the firmware update and transferred the device back to my TV and it's all black, except for the initial grey loading screen.

I think something went wrong with the way Boxee detects devices via HDMI in the latest firmware. The TV's HDMI works perfectly with laptop and other devices I tested.

Of course, I could just be the exception to the rule. Anyway, test the device on a monitor before deeming it a brick, is all I wanted to say here, in case someone has the same problem.

Many modern TV sets have advanced methods for interacting with other equipment using the HDMI connection. Possibly some change in the new firmware is affecting how the TV and your Boxee Box interact with each other, in which case you may be able to affect this by configuration changes at both ends.

So if you can find some configuration submenu or entry in your TV's menu system that affects HDMI protocol usage, it may help to try changing something there.

And on the Boxee Box it's mainly the 'Enable EDID' entry in the 'General > Advanced' submenu which affects this kind of behaviour. So you can try both settings for that entry, using the PC monitor to change the setting before reconnecting to the TV and rebooting your Boxee Box (to ensure that the new setting 'bites').

Best regards: Ronald

When I went to shutdown the Boxee this evening it asked if I wanted to upgrade since the latest update had already downloaded.

I chose upgrade and BAM after what appeared to be a successful update, it re-booted and now I've been staring at the "Loading" screw for 20 minutes.

What gives?

Just an update (no pun intended).

I turned off the Boxee Box.
I let it sit for about 15-20 minutes; turned it back on, et voila!

It's working again.
