Hey everyone,

This post is for you if you want to get your remote control working 100% with Boxee (Source code is attached). It has the added benifit of working with PowerDVD 9 for blu-ray playback. The following configuration, by default, will make Boxee work with Microsoft MCE remotes. If you want support for more, just PM me.

Buttons which work:

Power Button calls up the power menu
Up / Down / Left / Right
Select
Back
Play / Pause
Pause
Stop
Channel Up / Down control skipping lists
Skip forward / backward perform big step forward / backward
Fast forward / backward perform small step forward / backward
Number 5 will stop Power DVD 9 (if running) and start or restart boxee (Full Screen)
Number 6 will stop Boxee (if running) and start or restart Power DVD 9 (Full Screen)

All you need to make this work is the following:

Microsoft MCE Remote / IR Receiver

http://pcdirectuk.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=227

A copy of the replacement driver (Thanks to Team-MediaPortal)

http://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Drivers/Remotes/MCERemoteReplacementDriver/

Latest build of EventGhost

http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/

BetaConfiguration.zip for the Boxee Beta (attached)

Now, you have all of these, follow these instructions! :)

INSTALL IR

Plug your IR receiver into your PC / HTPC
Extract the replacement driver from Media-Portal's web-site.
Delete all .bat and .ini files which don't match your OS
Run 'install_%OS%_x86.bat' as an Administrator
Restart your machine

NOTE: If the above did not work, try to manually select the driver from device manager

Download Support Files

Download BetaConfiguration.zip
Ensure the files extract to C:\HTPCHelper

INSTALL EVENTGHOST (Updated for Boxee Beta)

Install EventGhost
Click File->Open
Open C:\HTPCHelper\EventGhost.xml
Click File->Options
Check 'Launch on Windows Startup'
Click OK
Click Save

Don't forget to minimize EventGhost, and not to close it :)

is the replacment driver required, or can you use the newer method:

EDIT: I've detailed below a new method for making the eHome driver behave like the replacement driver, this new method is much better than the old one and everyone should switch to it.

I don't know how I didn't find this earlier...

Load "regedit.exe" and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

Then delete the keys from "CodeSetNum0" to "CodeSetNum3".

that's should be the same as "Philips Media Center Remote"... should work fine. :) (it uses the same drivers/ir codes)

actually, all of these remotes should work:

For those that have already got their remote working in Windows, but aren't having any luck with Boxee, there is an alternative to EventGhost.

Download intelliremote :http://melloware.com/products/intelliremote/

Select the XBMC profile.

Use your remote ;)

I am sure there will be a Boxee specific profile coming along soon just for Intelliremote as well.

iBeech - you are the best!
But how do I get this working with my Harmony 880?

I have an XP machine with Boxee and a Hauppauge PVR-150 with IR Receiver that I've been using with SageTV forever, but I'm dying to switch over to Boxee.

I tried setting up a device in my Harmony setup as Windows Media Center PC and had no luck - same with the MCE-500.

Boxee is so sweet!!

Will this alternative method work in Vista 32? If not will the original method in this thread work?

EDIT: Just answered my own question with a bit or reading. For anyone wondering, the mediaportal replacement driver has been updated for vista.

I've just tried the instructions in this thread for Vista x86. I'm using a standard mce remote.

The replacement driver installed fine, but Eventghost isn't happy. I opened the xml file from this thread and it had the following errors in the log immediately:

Can't read __init__.py for plugin "XBMC"
Error loading plugin: "XBMC"
Can't find action: XBMC.Pause()
Can't find action: XBMC.Up()
Can't find action: XBMC.Down()
Plugin: Microsoft MCE Remote
Error starting plugin: Microsoft MCE Remote
etc...

I tried installing the XBMC plugin from here (http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1005) and it wouldn't let me. I got it to come up in the 'add plugin' list, but when I select it the ok button is greyed out.

I have eventghost 0.3.5c build 908. Can anyone help get my remote working?

OK I feel like a big ole dope.

XBMC Remote for the Iphone for the win. Key feature is turn the phone upside-down and it switches from menu on the phone to a button remote. It is the most awesome thing I have ever been so stupid to miss. OMG. And you can customize the buttons in real Iphone style. CRAZY.

Is Hulu fixed yet? How about Netflix on windows? When do they push out updates to the Boxee program?

Get this remote you silly people. I can remote over the internet and play my Boxee back to the internet over my Slingbox. I'm just bit too connected.

I was able to use my Hauppauge remote in EventGhost using the same script...just deleted the MCE remote from the startup section then added the HauppaugeIR. You then just need to press each button and drag the button presses from the log into the proper macro command. I could have modified the irremote.ini file but I use eventghost for things other than Boxee.

Great info here, just a few questions...

Any recommendations on where/what IR Receiver to get? I haven't picked one up yet and the google search results is a hodge podge of hardware.

Is it possible to program the Verizon FiOS remote I have to work with whatever IR Receiver I get? I would think if it the Receiver recognizes the signal for the remote then it's just a matter of having Boxee/middleware interpret them correctly.

Thanks!

OK, I now know what the problem was. I got what I thought was the latest version of eventghost, but what I needed was the latest beta NIGHTLY version of the program. I had already installed EG and it told me I had the latest versh so I thought I was good to go.

Excuse my ignorance. I hope this helps someone else.

Anyone been able to get the "Green Button" on the MCE remote to start Boxee?

I've been experimenting a little with this. This is the 'Home' macro in eventghost. If you add an Action you can choose to start a program and select boxee.exe. I also added the '-p' command line switch as without it my user wasn't in the list, although I don't know why. '-fs' should start full screen but doesn't work on my second monitor where I want it so I've left this off.

This works fine but if boxee is already running it'll start a second instance of the program. Ideally we want a macro that will look for the boxee window, if it finds it and it's the focus return to the home screen, if it isn't the focus make it the focus, and if it can't find it at all to start boxee.exe. This would exactly mimic the standard mce behaviour of the button, but I haven't figured out how to do this yet.

January 26th, 2009, 06:10 PM
OK, here's how to make the green button launch boxee or gain focus if it's already running. I haven't tested too thoroughly yet. This assumes you've followed the first post in this thread.

1. Create a new macro. I called mine 'Start Boxee'.
2. Within it add a new action. Select System -> Start Application.
3. Select the boxee executable filepath. Add -p to command line options for the profile screen to work and -fs if you want full screen. Click OK.
4. Now expand to the 'Home' macro in the tree. Above the 'Emulate Keystrokes: h' action, add an action and select Window -> Find a window.
5. Make it find the Boxee.exe window and untick 'Stop macro if target is not found'.
6. Now create another action below 'Find Window'. Select EventGhost -> Jump.
7. Now select 'last action was Unsuccessful'. Choose 'jump to' the 'Start Boxee' macro you created in step 1. Click OK.

That should be it. You can test it by selecting the 'Home' macro and hitting play.

Now if I could just get boxee starting on my second monitor in fullscreen I'd be set.

Wrong. I can't figure out why the "Back" button doesn't actually go back. I have to constantly get up and hit the "ESC" key on the keyboard.

There are other examples as well, but frankly I find it quite irritating that remote integration was not one of the FIRST THINGS that the boxee team nailed down. This entire thread should be irrelevant.

Hi, I'm new to Boxee on Windows, launching it from vista media center for the internet TV and metadata for my TV downloads. I have a Harmony 520 remote. As of now it does the basics of what my MCE remote does, although the clear button doesn't seem to work (a Harmony problem, my MCE remote clear button works). I've read everything here and at mediaportal, and I'm not clear on a few things:

-Will the driver or registry key affect any application other than Boxee? I don't want to interrupt the current MCE functionality and I want all current button mappings to stay the same outside Boxee.
-Does this tweak give me dedicated ff/rew, skip, play/pause/stop buttons? I haven't been able to confirm this with what I've read.
-I have a program called Pinnacle Game Profiler that I use to map my joysticks. Has anyone had any conflict with this software and eventghost?

I'm willing to try the hack, but I want to make sure I'm not going to break anything I can't fix by removing it. Thanks!

As far as I remember it's 'ehome ir receiver' or something along those lines. If you go into the USB controllers bit of device manager it should be in there. If you still can't identify it go to device manager, unplug the receiver and it should disappear from the list

Followed the guide and everything is working great. I have one question though, I would like to be able to use my remote to enter a numeric password when coming back from Standby. I mapped all of the number keys to the corresponding "Emulate Keystroke" number, and confirmed they were working in notepad. But when I try entering a password on the logon screen none of the buttons on the remote seem to do anything..except the PC power button. Any ideas? Thanks!

Question about using eventghost -

if i get a supported IR receiver that comes with a remote - Streamzap, for example - can i train EventGhost using a different remote?

I'm assuming that eventghost just takes the input and maps it to keystrokes, but if there's a specifically supported type of IR receiver, does it require you to use the remote that came with the receiver?

my goal is to have Boxee controllable with my existing TV remote control, rather than have to add ANOTHER remote to the pile.

Thanks for the tips. I had to set it up a little different or it kept opening new windows the way you described.
I had to put the 2 actions in the Start Boxee macro and change the jump command to if successful jump to Home.

I don't know why I couldn't get it to work your way.

Have you tried using Ultramon for starting boxee on your second screen?
It is working perfect for me.

I searched through keymap.xml and it was supposed to be 9 for mute, but it doesn't seem to work.

I went ahead and just created new macros for volume and mute by creating a new action and using the system\soundcard options to set the remote to control the soundcard volume and mute. I chose 5% for volume increments.

Another feature I added was BigStepForward and BigStepBack. Boxee uses the [ and ] keys for that to skip 10 minutes.

<Event Name="MceRemote.FFA7" />

</Action>
<Action>
Window.FindWindow(u'BOXEE.exe', u'BOXEE', u'SDL_app', None, None, None, False, 0.0, 0)
</Action>
<Action>
Window.SendKeys(u'{Up}', False)
</Action>
</Macro>
To:
<Macro Name="Up">
<Event Name="MceRemote.BE1" />
<Event Name="MceRemote.Up" />
<Event Name="MceRemote.A3A7" />
<Event Name="MceRemote.FFA7" />
<Action>
Window.SendKeys(u'{Up}', False)
</Action>
<Action>
Window.FindWindow(u'BOXEE.exe', u'BOXEE', u'SDL_app', None, None, None, False, 0.0, 0)
</Action>
<Action>
XBMC.Up()
</Action>
</Macro>

So it was just a matter of moving the command "XBMC.Up()" down to where it is for the rest of the commands.

I am working with this XML to make an EventGhost plugin for WinTV remotes. I hope the author is ok with that.

So it was just a matter of moving the command "XBMC.Up()" down to where it is for the rest of the commands.

I am working with this XML to make an EventGhost plugin for WinTV remotes. I hope the author is ok with that.

I disabled all of my 'XBMC.xx()' actions as they were returning errors and nothing bad happened - you can do this in the eventghost UI rather than editing the xml directly. I think they're just leftover from the previous config for xbmc and boxee doesn't have the necessary event server plugin to support them yet. I may be wrong here though, just my assumption, but without them the config runs error free.

Sorry if this is a little too off topic but I took iBeech's XML file and edited it to work with my WinTV PVR USB 2 remote. I imagine it would work with most other WinTV remotes but have no way to test it.

If you're interested you can check out my post on it (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=5865).

I am seeing the same problem. Found a solution yet?

Actually I have the weirdest thing going on. I started having problems with that and eventghost, they were both basically making my remote just unusable. So I uninstalled them both and now my MCE remote works perfectly in Boxee with no 3rd party apps.

I have no idea what happen or why but right now I'm not complaining.

Boxee admins? Did you guys make some kind of behind the scenes update for the MCE remote?

I'm using a MCE v2 remote with boxee.

I have gotten Eventghost to work with boxee very well. However, when I am looking through my movie collection (or tv shows, or anything for that matter), I cannot hold down any of the directional arrows on my remote to scroll faster through my collection. When I hold down the down arrow on my keyboard, boxee scrolls quickly through my collection as soon as I release the key, boxee stops scrolling.

In Eventghost, there is an action called, "Autorepeat current macro" (New Action --> Event Ghost), but I cannot get the timings right to perform well with Boxee.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or does anyone have a solution for it?

I don't want to take anything away from this thread, and this thread actually helped me finalized my own solution, but for those specifically using a Windows MCE remote, I have a possible alternate solution. I personally think it's a bit easier to install and configure, but that's just my own opinion. It doesn't require the alternate driver for the MCE remote.

I don't mean to hijack this thread so if I offend anyone I apologize. I just wanted to provide an alternative possibility.

Here's a link to the thread for my idea:

What versions of eventghost work for this? The version I installed (0.3.6.1487) keeps saying Device not found (and other errors in red) wherease the alternate driver for mce remote is installed (and device manager says device working properly - i think driver version was something like 0.19).

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

Did your Beta config just emulate keystrokes to use Boxee's functionality? Because I can't seem to get any of the XBMC actions to work in Boxee.(on my own config)

Boxee doesnt work with the XBMC actions.
My config sends teh correct keystrokes. Which have changed from alpha -> beta, and are continuing to change.

I'll keep the config updated as changes are made.

Your config works great, and you've done a really nice job.

Unfortunately, the replacement IR drive breaks the MCE Keyboard, which I also use from time to time. It's really a bummer. Using the Microsoft Signed IR driver doesn't work though, it double clicks everything in boxee and is pretty broken.

Any ideas? Should I maybe just petition the author of the replacement IR driver to add support for the MCE keyboard?

Hey folks - I have the boxee iphone remote app installed and working, however I was playing around with another iphone app called Snatch.

This has a server side app that gets installed on my Boxee unit and allows me to use a track pad to control the screen very nicely. It also has the ability to create custom remotes. I took a copy of the PLEX remote config that they provided and did a few minor changes to match the boxee key presses in the hopes that it would work with boxee.

Well, if I have a notepad window open, and use the remote, I see the keypresses appear as expected. However when the boxee app has focus, none of the key presses appear to be working.

Am I missing something simple here? Do I need to change something in boxee in order for it so see the keypresses from my Snatch remote app?

Thanks in advance for any input.

What about support for the MCE remote & 64 bit Win 7? The mediaportal driver doesn't work for x64.

I've spent 12+ hours doing research on trying to get my URC MX-880 remote to work with Boxee. I already have a MCE IR receiver and can program the heck out of it. Getting the remote to have an extended function set is painful.

Help, help, help... please. At this point, spending a few bucks is not an issue, so I'll take any solution.

I used the Chinavision and it worked great for me (I had the actual remote, too). I used it because I didn't know if the WMC remote had hotkeys or not since I didn't have one. But I set my shortcuts up as follows:

XBMC (CTRL+ALT+A)
Boxee (CTRL+ALT+B)
Hulu (CTRL+ALT+C)
WMC (CTRL+ALT+D)

Those are the remote command's my Chinavision sends for it's hotkeys. I just added them as LCD buttons (Harmony One) and it all works great. Also, the Chinavision had all the other buttons I needed already there (fullscreen, close, internet, etc), so it just worked out best for me.

Hi All,

I recently installed Boxee on HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook and love it.

I am having a bit of a problem with my HP Remote (small express card remote). Play/pause button, FF/rewind buttons do not work. It works in other players though - Windows Media Player, BS Player and a couple of others I tried.

I upgraded the notebook to Windows 7 a few days ago, found all drivers and everything seems to work ok.

I wonder if there a solution. Do I need to follow the steps on in the first post of this topic? Sorry, I am a bit confused :)
The arrow buttons and the "back" button and the ok button work fine. The volume buttons work too.

Thanks a lot and I apologize if I missed the relevant posts in my search attempts.

PS Also, would love to program the green button on the remote to start Boxee.

EDIT: This is what my remote looks like:

Okay guys, I have been trying to get a media center remote (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ST7QPA/ref=oss_product) working with Boxee on a win XP pro (SP 3) system and its been driving me nuts! XP couldn't find the drivers for the IR receiver so I ended up using some generic windows IR drivers that I soon replaced with the drivers from Team-MediaPortal (I was unable to use the .bat and had to load them manually). I installed EventGhost and the support files without any issues and when you hit a button on the remote the LED flashes on the IR receiver but nothing happens...

I have been doing some more research and the only thing I can come up with is that my media center remote is a bit newer and may not be compatible with the replacement drivers? If you guys have any other ideas or anything that worked for you with a similar setup I would really appreciate the help!

BTW my win 7 x64 setup using my palm pre as a remote works great!

Yes, TwistedMelon sells a 100% MCE compatible IR receiver that works beautifully with my Harmony 550 (you can use the default MCE remote and keyboard profiles from Logitech).

Even though the website is focused at Apple, the IR receiver works for Windows.

I have remote modeled VRC-1100, apparently current EventGhost(EG) stable version does not work with it. EG did not recognize input from it.
I used the latest Experimental version (0.4.x) and EG recognizes the input from Remote. I had to use VRC-1100 plugin instead of MS MCE plugin in EG.

Otherwise remote is called Vista Remote and works perfectly in MCE.
That solved my problem on W7 x64.

Okay so I have searched and searched, and tried everything in this thread. But I am not able to freaking start boxee. Once in boxee my remote works great. But if I close boxee, then I am screwed. my htpc has no mouse, or keyboard hooked up, and this needs to be "wife" safe.

I have a standard IR MCE remote. And I am running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the default IR driver, and am using eventghost with the config that iBeech setup.

Any help would be most appreciated!

*EDIT* So I figured out that I need to have eventghost run as administrator after all. Not sure if I saw that here or somewhere else though. Now to get it to run as admin everytime windows starts.

Hey everyone,

This post is for you if you want to get your remote control working 100% with Boxee (Source code is attached). It has the added benifit of working with PowerDVD 9 for blu-ray playback. The following configuration, by default, will make Boxee work with Microsoft MCE remotes. If you want support for more, just PM me.

Buttons which work:

Power Button calls up the power menu
Up / Down / Left / Right
Select
Back
Play / Pause
Pause
Stop
Channel Up / Down control skipping lists
Skip forward / backward perform big step forward / backward
Fast forward / backward perform small step forward / backward
Number 5 will stop Power DVD 9 (if running) and start or restart boxee (Full Screen)
Number 6 will stop Boxee (if running) and start or restart Power DVD 9 (Full Screen)

All you need to make this work is the following:

Microsoft MCE Remote / IR Receiver

http://pcdirectuk.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=227

A copy of the replacement driver (Thanks to Team-MediaPortal)

http://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Drivers/Remotes/MCERemoteReplacementDriver/

Latest build of EventGhost

http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/

BetaConfiguration.zip for the Boxee Beta (attached)

Now, you have all of these, follow these instructions! :)

INSTALL IR

Plug your IR receiver into your PC / HTPC
Extract the replacement driver from Media-Portal's web-site.
Delete all .bat and .ini files which don't match your OS
Run 'install_%OS%_x86.bat' as an Administrator
Restart your machine

NOTE: If the above did not work, try to manually select the driver from device manager

Download Support Files

Download BetaConfiguration.zip
Ensure the files extract to C:\HTPCHelper

INSTALL EVENTGHOST (Updated for Boxee Beta)

Install EventGhost
Click File->Open
Open C:\HTPCHelper\EventGhost.xml
Click File->Options
Check 'Launch on Windows Startup'
Click OK
Click Save

Don't forget to minimize EventGhost, and not to close it :)

START BOXEE
ENJOY :)

in regarding to getting mce remote working with Boxee, i am using win 7 32 bit, and a fusion remote with a USB IR reciever.

I have installed Eventghost, and Boxee, however only 1 or 2 buttons work on remote... (up down left right doesnt even work)

Hi all and thanks for all of this great information. This is my first post out here but since a lot of the information on this thread is "older" I thought I'd share my experience with Windows MCE remotes. First here is a rundown of my system and items I encountered:

Acer AX1700 PC (ships with Vista but I loaded Windows 7HP fresh) otherwise stock
Netgear Stora MS2110-100NAS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822122045&cm_re=stora-_-22-122-045-_-Product) expanded to 2TB for storing media
Rosewill RRC127 MCE remote for Windows 7 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880101003)
Logitech Harmony 700 Universal Remote (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880111030)
Boxee Beta 0.9.22.13692 for Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7 (launching on startup)

I received the MCE remote and Harmony today and proceeded to setup the MCE remote first. I simply plugged the IR receiver into a free USB port and Windows 7 had no problems recognizing it and loading the proper drivers. After some fiddling around with the remote it seemed like once in Boxee the arrows and back functions worked properly. As far as I can tell there was nothing special needed to make Boxee work with a properly setup MCE remote although I found that several of the buttons will actually call up WMC.

The Harmony was/is my solution to solve all of that. Being able to customize buttons on the Harmony remote while eliminating some of the unused commands from the MCE remote makes life pretty simple. After several hours of tinkering I finally was able to get the Harmony remote setup properly. Effectively, when I hit the "watch movies" button the PC comes out of sleep, Boxee is preloaded and I can navigate Boxee easily. When I want to switch to television I simply push the "watch tv" button and the PC goes to sleep and switches to the satellite etc. Its really slick.

The most difficult problem I had to deal with was Boxee loading on windows startup. What I wasn't noticing at first was that when Boxee launched it prevented my storage agent for the NAS from logging in and I wouldn't get all of my shares mapped. I'd go to "movies" in Boxee and only local items would show up. What I had to do was add a -d "x" (where x=seconds) switch to the startup to delay Boxee from starting for around 20 seconds giving ample time for the storage agent to load properly and map all of my drives on the NAS. Once that was solved everything else went pretty smooth.

If you're looking for a MCE remote then I can recommend the Rosewill item I linked as I find it to be a competent remote despite the fact that I dont really use it...and its reasonably priced as well. The remote setup easily and worked right out of the box. The Harmony factor goes without saying. I find it to be the true solution and wife proofing factor that will make my little Boxee project successful. I would expect all of the Harmony line would work similarly. I have 5 devices to control so the 700 was a good fit for me. I can still add one more device so I have a little bit of scalability as well.

Anyhow, hope this information is helpful...if not well at least I'm able to vent my success with remotes here. Great forum...lots of good information.

Regards,
Darin

I've looked and didn't see an answer for this so I apologize for my ignorance ahead of time. I just got an Arock ION 330-HT and have Boxee Beta installed. I believe the Asrock has an IR receiver for MCE automatically installed. Is there a way to turn the computer on and off with a remote? with the current boxee software, do I need to do anything (as the first post in this thread mentioned) to set up my remote? or it should work out of the box?

do I need to install eventghost? to set up any special buttons?

I have the Rjosewill remote that DarinVR linked in his post. I like the idea the Original post had to configure the remote to do or not do things when buttons a pushed. However, as foxnews pointed out, the links in the original post are broken. It's almost been a year since that post so I was wondering about any update to making the MCE remotes do what the Original post described.

Thanks! ^_^

It would be great to actually have a EventGhost dedicated plugin, in order to allow passing events without keyboard shortcuts.

In my particular case I have one PC with dual video output and while somebody is using Boxee on one output I can do my work using the primary monitor.
If keyboardshortkuts are used, I will get those on my applications instead of Boxee.
A dedicated plugin allows sending the message directly to Boxee in case the event is triggered.

Anybody has a suggestion for that?

Hum, I don't see much hope if your wife is not able to use a remote that has a help function when things go wrong. Getting an MCE remote isn't going to help in this department either.

After spending some hours on boxee knowledgebase and google, I am not sure of the exact status of MCE remote support for Windows. I have Vista and the MCE remote works for the most part. The only keys which I cannot make work are the alphanumeric keys. They always send the numbers to boxee, while in WMC, I can type in an alphabet by repeatedly pressing the button. It is not a deal-breaker as I do have a bluetooth keyboard, but I would still like to make it work if there is any easy solution which does not involve fiddling with drivers. The reason I don't want to mess with drivers is because I don't want to mess-up the remote usage with WMC. It works perfectly over there.

The remote is a standard MCE remote (RC6 written on the back). I could not locate a brand-name, but it is the standard silver-colored remote with green MCE button.

Thanks!

I've just spent some hours myself wrangling the Boxee/Win7 situation.

The current state of affairs is that EventGhost works happily with the MCE remotes, so long as you use the Win7 plugin and install the service as it asks you to.
It's then possible to control XBMC by using the XBMC2 plugin's HTTP-API action, including support for typing with the number pad.
I've put up my personal EventGhost tree for it here (http://d.pr/olDP) - it includes the basics, as well as a button to restart Boxee if it crashes (untested, may be slow - if so, just remove the XBMC action at the start of that macro)

Really nice guidelines shared at page 1. I impressed with that knowledge. This might be useful for me in the future.

I have an MCE remote which works just fine with Boxee using the default MCE driver. I don't need MCE itself, so I have disabled the entire WMP + MCE system in "Add/Remove Windows Components". So, needless to say MCE never pops up with any of the buttons.

The only functionality I would like to add is the ability to start Boxee and/or move it into focus. I can start map one of the remote buttons to a keyboard shortcut such as "ctrl-shift-A" with a reg edit in the "buttons table". However, is there a way to do bring Boxee into focus using either a reg edit in the "buttons table" or using Event Ghost? Thanks...

Xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows + xbox 360 controller = best remote ever. So easy that even wives can't complain that it's too complicated to use. :)
