boxee gets all the metadata about you movies and tv shows from the internet.

see here for how to format your filenames correctly:

I'm not sure how getsatisfaction really works, but has a suggestion been floated to have boxee recognize THETVDB show IDs (or IMDB), if put in the file name?

How do you deal with specials for example the ones listed here:

http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=74608&seasonid=36698&lid=7

How should the files be named exactly? Thanks!

Well if you'll notice, those specials listed with series 12, are also listed in a seperate "series" called Special as shown here http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=74608&seasonid=22070&lid=7

Those four parts of specials, during series 12 are actually episodes 21-24 of the "Specials" series which is designated by Series #00.

So the short of it, you tag them as Season/Series 00, Episode 21-24

ex.
top gear.S00E21.avi
top gear.S00E22.avi
top gear.S00E23.avi
top gear.S00E24.avi

Perfect! Thanks for explaining it thoroughly and for providing the explicit example. Exactly what I needed!

Another issue seems to be when a "Season" is actually a year. For example, see:

The Sky At Night (http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=80428&seasonid=39857&lid=7)

or

Horizon (http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=74379&lid=7)

The Season is listed as 2009, but I think only the first two numbers get recognized. So Season 2009, 2008, 2007 etc. all look the same.

Must "Season" always be just two numbers?

Thanks!!

I had some problem getting boxee to recognize Milk, but i found that in the title on imdb has several Milk movies from 2008. I had originaly indexed it as Milk (2008).avi. But boxee didnt find that, so on imdb the movie is indexed as Milk (2008/I) so i indexed it as Milk (2008 I) and it found it right away.
I just mentioned this because maby someone else have had som problems with it, i know i had :D

Because you cant put som special signes in the title such as ":" and "/", that i know of, i guess you can just drop it and boxee will find the title anyway?
I mension this because i cant index gremlins 1 and 2. They just get stacked as cd1 and 2, and imdb indexes the second one as "Gremlins 2: The New Batch". And seens i cannot use the colon in the title it asumes it is cd 2. I have tryed to removed the colon but it doesnt work. Any solution to that?forgot something, i cant manualy index them in boxee, they just stack to one movie anyway.

What about issues such as Battlestar Galactica the 2003 show. I have them listed as path/Battlestar Galactica (2003)/Season 1/Battlestar Galactica s01e01.avi But it does not seem to recognize them as the 2003 show. And the dvd has season 1 ep 1 as the miniseries. I tried to set it to s00e01 but it did not take it, thought it was something else. I did have it correct at one point labeling season 1 as ep 1-14, it seemed to pick up the miniseries as ep 1 but I had to clear my DB to get the new version to work with apps and now it doesn't seem to pick it up.

I also have issues with The Tick 2001, it picks it up as the animated one. If i choose wrong show and reset it to the correct one, it shows the right series poster but all the episodes show the animated graphics. I have tried the option to clear out old thumbs too.

So if you do show/season/episode will that mess it up. SHould it just be show/episode? Thanks

I've noticed sometimes shows like Dexter will show up in Movies rather than under TV shows. Any idea what I can do to prevent this from happening. It is picking up all the correct meta data for the show.

If someone with experience could just clarify on how I would list my movies/ tv shows.....

I have Seinfeld season 1-9 and is in my comp. directory currently as (each a seperate folder with "TV shows" being the main folder)

Tv Shows > Seinfeld > Season 1 > Disc1 Disc2 Disc 3 Disc 4 (each disc in own folder)

These are also all in DVD format... so Disc 1-4 has VIDEO_TS folders.

How should I rename these so boxee recognizes them?

Hi,
Is there anyway to get boxee to show movies that it dosn´t recognise from these databases with just the filenames?
My problem is that i have a few Icelandic movies and shows that arn´t on Imdb or those sites... also when disney movies have Icelandic language so the kids can understand...

If there is a workaround then i would also like to know.

Yes. I experience that problem and I'm a bit confused...

When I open the Movies menu it doesn't show any of my movies, just blank empty space...! When I open the TV Shows menu it's the same...!
What can I do to solve it and/or prevent it in the future...?

Im having similar problems with movies, in vista ive got 22 divx movies (.avi) in my username/films folder. Boxee recognises 16 of them in the local media / movies section but is missing the other 6. Havent renamed the others in any other way and just cant understand why its not even listing them?

The files were all in the films folder on my hdd before i installed boxee, not like ive added them after and it hasnt recognised the additions...

It's due to file naming issues on your side or the shows are incorrectly listed in the Boxee IMDB database.

If you have Boxee Beta, it uses IMDB, go to this area and follow the stickies on how to submit your movies to the database.
http://forum.boxee.tv/forumdisplay.php?f=21

If you have Alpha, it uses THETVDB.com, then there is no fix being supported for that issue. Make sure your files are named correctly. If still no show, use the Browse feature to get to the files in Boxee.

I'd suggest upgrading to Beta after Friday's public release. ;)

thanks for the reply, i have alpha, and its the case that the films just dont even show in the movies section, not that its displaying the wrong art for it... i can find them if browsing the folder manually but i really like the film art and synopsis that you can only get in the movies section of boxee! Will try the new release on friday, thanks.

edit: didnt realise if you went into the browse section and add your films folder it can still show the art, but just not the synopsis unless you go into 'more info'. will use this for the time being.

Boxee doesn't seem to be able to recognize TV DVD sets.

For example, I ripped Firefly to my network drive, put it in a folder called "Firefly" with subfolders Disc 1, Disc 2, Disc 3, Disc 4

A "Firefly" without any cover art (it's white text on a black box) is showing up in "My Movies", and if I play it it goes to disc 1, with no apparent way to access the other discs.

I've got several DVD series that are recognized just fine. So, I'm sure it's just that particular TV series that needs updated in the Boxee IMDB database.

Your actual file should be named not just the folder. Boxee only looks at the file itself. Example:
firefly.2009.(cd1).avi fireFly.2009.(cd2).avi etc etc. And that is just one way to name them correctly. I have my cd1, 2, 3 all in one folder and boxee plays them as one after the other automatically.

Or if Disc one is say season 1 with 10 episodes and disc 2 is season 2 with 11 episodes then do the following:

Folder name is: Six Feet Under - Season 1
Video file names in this folder: six feet under S01E1.avi -----six feet under S01E10.avi

Folder name is: Six Feet Under - Season 2
Video file names in this folder: six feet under S02E1.avi ------six feet under S02E11

And so on...

Follow the RED First Stop link in my sig and read the links to submit your TV Shows and Movies that will not get indexed by Boxee. Just be sure they are named correctly before submitting them. ;)

I'm a little confused by the whole naming thing. I have a series of TV shows that are all named using exactly the same format, eg:
'Top Gear - [09x01] - 2007.01.28.avi'
'Top Gear - [09x02] - 2007.02.04.avi'

All the way up to episode 6. Three of the episodes are picked up by Boxee and 3 aren't. All the files have the same permissions, are in the same directory etc.
I'm on the beta so its using IMDB, but surely IMDB wouldn't have 3 episodes of the series and not the rest.

This is just one example, I have a few different shows that are exactly the same. I've submitted details using the spreadsheet, but its still pretty odd and it points to an issue that isn't just related to the naming scheme.

Yeah, same problem here with a lot of TV shows (and some shows are showing up as movies, some movies lack cover art...)
I have seasons 4-11 of Top Gear and Boxee only recognizes like 2 of the seasons, and not even all of the eps at that. Boxee is like melted ice cream - it's good, but it could be so much better.

I'm confused - with DVD's there's no files to name, Just VIDEO_TS folders full of .VOB files. I don't think I can go renaming the .VOB files if I expect it to keep working correctly.

My structure looks like:

Firefly\Disc 1\VIDEO_TS\*.VOB
Firefly\Disc 2\VIDEO_TS\*.VOB
Etc.

I also tried Buffy with the same result, using this structure:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer\Season 1\Disc 1\VIDEO_TS\*.VOB
Buffy the Vampire Slayer\Season 1\Disc 2\VIDEO_TS\*.VOB
Etc.

In both cases, Boxee thinks it's a movie rather than a TV show, and if I try to play it out of movies it will play Disc 1 and doesn't indicate that it knows the other discs are there.

So - what should I be renaming to what?

For me, 'Milk (2008)' resolves incorrectly as a 2009 film by Lee Miller, rather than the 2008 film by Gus Van Sant.

It seems that the 'Title (Year n)' naming schema is required for an accurate IMDb match, but that Boxee Beta (unlike the Alpha) currently doesn't support this.

Official documentation or advice on this would be helpful, but any info would be appreciated.

Since 'Milk (2008)' resolves incorrectly as a 2009 film by Lee Miller you need to submit the movie title via the spreadsheet, per the FAQ.

bfreq
January 30th, 2010, 04:11 AM
Done that. My point is that IMDb also has a 'Milk (2008/II)' and many other titles in that format. How does Boxee handle these and how should users name their files?

February 9th, 2010, 03:33 PM
I'm wondering this too. In 2009 there were two versions of "Taken", and IMDb lists them as Taken (2008/I) and Taken (2008/II). As a result, I'm not sure how to name my copy of Taken, and have it show up in the list.

ryanobjc

so the "new and improved' recognition system is still hurting. Yes I know "just rename all your files" but what if that isnt an option? Lets say, for example, your files come with a specific filename for a specific reason (*cough* bittorrent), then in fact to make boxee happy with it, one would have to break the other app or perhaps make two copies...

Really, the old boxee with recognition worked really nicely. Why did you remove it?

Hmph, still can't get Inglourious.Basterds.(2009).mp4 to show up at all. Anyone have it named anything differently?

Also, the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Christmas special, "A Very Sunny Christmas"... With the filename "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia S00E15.avi" (as it is lasted on TVDB), it's showing up in the correct listing in TV shows, but as a unnamed episode, with a generic description. Anyone manage to get it to recognize correctly?

This has been taken from the BOXEE Blog, I think it should clarify how BOXEE handles metadata. It's not the same as XBMC. You have to send your misidentification issues to this web for BOXEE to look at the problem.

You can the specific misidentification at http://jira.boxee.tv for us to look at it.
;)Manual resolve feature is in the works, and not too far away.
Regarding scraping – we do not scrape – we resolve against our own database, which in turn comes from partners like IMDB.

Ooh, nice tip, thank you. I had been having trouble with this series (what with all the punctuation)... but this did the trick.

In fact, I shortened it to

Subfolders does not affect this. How are you ripping them? How are you naming them? These are key.

Do you have an entire season of episodes in one ISO or MKV or something? If so, no, boxee cannot see index those. You have to make a symbolic link file for those. Use the search feature in the forum to find more on that if needed. ;)

Boxee doesn't seem to be able to recognize TV DVD sets.

For example, I ripped Firefly to my network drive, put it in a folder called "Firefly" with subfolders Disc 1, Disc 2, Disc 3, Disc 4

I have the same series ripped as ISOs inside one folder with 4 other subfolders labeled the same as you (Disc 1 through 4) - the rips are stored on an external drive - and the 'name' of each rip/ISO is the default name given to the rip assigned at that time (ie..FIREFLY_D1.iso)

At the beginning of each ISO is the main menu that gives the option to choose/play any of the multiple episodes on each of the 4 Discs that are included in the total multi-disc set of the series

They are riped as ISOs and are from regular DVDs - and Boxee has no trouble at all playing the 4 ISOs

However - I have found that Boxee can't play ISO rips from Blu-Ray content on its own -- but has no trouble with the same BD riped content if first mounted on a virtual drive and then accessed in Boxees' "Files" choice by clicking on the drive letter displayed by the virtual drive

I haven't yet found anything Boxee can not play - including large BD rips in the size of 40+Gbs as m2ts', MKVs' and ISOs - but as mentioned the BD/ISO rips must first be mounted on a virtual drive and accessed/played with Boxee via "Files"

So the short of it, you tag them as Season/Series 00, Episode 21-24

ex.
top gear.S00E21.avi
top gear.S00E22.avi
top gear.S00E23.avi
top gear.S00E24.avi

it did not work for me, i dont see top gear in my tv shows. i named them like stated top gear.S01E01 etc...
did i do something wrong i made it rescan the top gear folder but nothing showed up.

Is there any way to make Boxee use thetvdb.com for TV shows?

I've never had a problem with Plex finding even the most obscure TV show. Yet Boxee is missing hundreds of files that just don't show up. Even after a manual search.

Not sure what Boxee uses, but it's not very good! :)

Boxee uses a licensed copy of the IMDB.com database.

Can you give a small example of shows that don't show up for you?
You can also try to see if the show is listed on IMDB.com and double check your spelling etc.

If not able to get them to work, you can follow the First STop link in my signature. In there is info and links explaining proper naming formats and how to submit your movies or TV shows to boxee devs so they can manually add to their IMDB database. ;)

OK, thanks for the quick replies.

I've checked on IMDB to ensure they're listed and a lot of them aren't.
"Fighting the Blue" is a recent example - I think this has even been released on DVD?
Other shows I guess are just because they're just general TV shows - Discovery Channel shows, History programmes etc.

Am I right in thinking you can't currently edit the tags in Boxee? As in, assign a name, artwork etc for my local machine?

I record a lot of stuff from EyeTV but like to use Boxee to watch everything. But it's not really as slick having to dig around for shows in the "Files" section. At least it plays them though I guess!

Also, some shows like "Superjail!" are missing artwork.

Cheers

I am trying to add "Black Rock Shooter" to my library. I have the file named Black.Rock.Shooter.S01E01 in my videos and Boxee picks it up, but places it in the Unresolved Videos. It has an entry (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=162711&lid=7) in thetvdb.com, but there's no Black Rock Shooter in the list when I try to correct Boxee with the video. What's going on?

Boxee doesn't thetvdb.com but imdb.com's database. You can report problem titles here:

You can also try resolving it manually (http://boxee.zendesk.com/entries/172489-resolving-an-unidentified-movie-or-tv-show).

Certainly not for all its information.

Not sure how / if thetvdb.com fits in -- according to Boxee support documentation, Boxee is using their own licensed copy of the IMDB. I don't know how Boxee updates their copy which may or may not include artwork that isn't seen on the IMDB website.

In any case, the IMDB database certainly is used so it can't be said that all info is coming from any other source.

I have a handful (I think more than a dozen) movies that do not have the same graphic or description that are on imdb.com. There are also a few that give the movie the wrong name entirely.

I've used the form in the past but they haven't gotten resolved.

I was kind of hanging out waiting to see what would happen as I know there are more pressing things for the Boxee team to deal with, but I figured I'd chime in and see if we are still supposed to be using the form or what?

A lot of movies with numbers in the title need to be manually resolved btw, I've not checked jira yet to see if it's a reported bug. I'll have to do that.

Well, it's not the artwork I am really referencing. It's the description and especially the air date. IMDB's and thetvdb's air dates clash and Boxee has the thetvdb.com version in the software.

Hey all few questions and I hope this is the right place to post it. I read through a bunch of things and have an issue...Not really a major flaw with boxee though I guess.

Anyway: I use Media Center Master to sort all my movies and TV shows. If you haven't seen that program it sorts and creates an XML file of the information such as synopsis, covert art, local trailer etc. There is also an option to create an NFO file for xbmc and boxee. With MCM I used Media Browser as an Media Center add on to display all the info. I am liking a lot of the features of boxee better and am trying to setup boxee instead of my current setup.

My question is: I have a folder named Movies on my WHS, in that folder each movie has its own folder. In each movie folder is a folder.jpg for cover art, few background images, the Movie and an XML file for WMC and NFO file for boxee. When I open up boxee and add the folder it scans and then looks to be syncing every file to IMDB. Now I have to go through every movie and make sure cover is correct, basically starting over from scratch. (and finally the question...lol) Is there a way for boxee to just read the NFO created in each folder and read the folder.jpg file so I don't have to go through 1500 files to make sure everything is correct again? Also if it finds the wrong covert art or one in another language can I manually change that cover art for that file?

Thanks in advance all :D (Again I hope this is in the correct location)

I'm sorry to pester over this issue that so many others seem to have as well. But with the new appleTV coming out, i need to decide if i want another one, or to get a boxee box. and my ONLY gripe is the lack of local metadata. I love to metadata all my movies (via metax).

So my question is this, when might we see this, how far off on planning is this? is it in a soon build, or is it on the end of a long list to add.

ps - Are there any plans to have movies sorted by Genre that you can name (like apple tv). I guess i have 2 gripes. i don't like that its just one long alpha list of movies.

I am testing the windows version of Boxee and I am still having doubts of buying the boxee box but one thing bothers me. (besides the fact that several people has asked the question and there still is no satisfactory answer from the super moderators)

One of my shares on my synology nas is used for tv series on dvd. These are all in the .iso format (so much easier then having separate video_ts folders and the images are created in 30 seconds using imgburn)

I got a dir listing like:

Two and a Half Men S07D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S01D04.iso
Two and a Half Men S05D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S03D04.iso
Two and a Half Men S06D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S04D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S04D04.iso
Two and a Half Men S02D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S02D04.iso
Two and a Half Men S06D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S02D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S07D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S02D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S07D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S03D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S03D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S05D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S04D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S05D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S04D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S01D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S01D03.iso
Two and a Half Men S01D01.iso
Two and a Half Men S06D04.iso
Two and a Half Men S03D02.iso
Two and a Half Men S06D03.iso

First of all boxee does not see this as a TV serie. Second when in movies it will only show 2-3 files within the title.

So my question is, is there any good way to make this visible under TV series (and I don't care that you dont see the episode listing because its not relevant for tv serie dvds, only relevant when I have .avi or .mkv for running tv series)

This could be a show stopper to buy it because my current hdx1000 and popcorn a110 can also do the browsing

Thanks for you answer

And what do you do with titles that are too long for boxee to seemingly pick up?

For example, I've got these for my son;

http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=78949&seasonid=15894&lid=7

and Boxxee doesn't pick any of them up - probably because the files are titled;

Thomas.The.Tank.Engine.&.Friends.S01E21.Toby.And.The.Stout.Gentlemen.mp4

and Boxxee only seems to show up Thomas The Tank, when I go to manually add them - none of those then list - and I have submitted them to the 'Tv programmes not showing up link'.

Also have a lot of trouble with;

Tiger - Spy in the Jungle

which I've titled many different ways and submitted, to no avail. Suggestions?

take out the titles, they are optional, also add the dates that the series started as that always helps. I cannot test this right now as I am at work, but I would try this:

Thomas.The.Tank.Engine.Friends.S01E21.(1984).mp4

(I removed the ampersand, you could try a dash though)

If you manually identify that, and search, it should find the correct series. pick that and it will open a screen pre-filled with S01 and E21, accept that and I think it will work for you.

It's a bit non-intuitive, but IMDB has them listed with episode numbers:

Jimmy Fallon @ IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1231460/episodes)

So you should still name them like:

Late.Night.with.Jimmy.Fallon.S01E370.(2009)

for the Original Air Date—4 January 2011 episode.

I notice the thetvdb has seasons broken out by years which IMDB does not so the season number does not agree. I cannot test it right now but I would go with IMDB first.

Hi Guys,
Having spent many days reading tons of advice from all of you, I am still having problems with some 'Movies' and I'm hoping that you maybe be able to give me some pointers.

I put Movies in quotes since most of the ones that won't resolve are stand-up shows, eg:
Jim Davidson Vote For Jim Live http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176116/
Even though they are list in IMDB, they still wont resolve in Boxee.

I have tried every naming convention that you guys have sugested here, all the ones in the FAQ and a lot I made up, nothing ventured nothing gain lol.

I have also submitted a support ticket but that has not recieved any action so far.

I suggest we collect some more info regarding these media scrapers.

It doesn't seem that there's a proper standard.. XBMC describes it in one way which seems to be logical to be used in Boxee.

I tried using nfoScraper, YAMMM, MCM, they're doing great with movies but I didn't see a proper support for TV shows and I can't say one of them is fully compatible with XBMC.

Some of the scrapers created tvshow.nfo, but it looks like there also should be an nfo for each episode... somewhat confusing..

What media scrapers have you tried and what could u suggest?
What .nfo files do you use and where are they located?

could u attach some nfo examples with the filename?

I would try this:
Nick Saban: Gamechanger (2010).mkv

If that doesn't work automatically, you can try to manually identify the movie: http://support.boxee.tv/entries/172489-resolving-an-unidentified-movie-or-tv-show

If it still doesn't work, report the issue here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGMxVWZhQUdfcVdIZG5HOXpVMFRqNlE6M A

Thank you, worked great! Now, I can't seem to get Boxee to see and recognize my GodSmack Changes Live DVD. I have ripped it using Make MKV. Will keep trying. But thanks again!!

Yeah, that one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436162/ is marked "(Video)" meaning "straight to video" and Boxee won't find it (licensing issue). You'll have to wait for the next release which will let you use a local NFO file to tell Boxee the metadata about the movie...

I have a few "Barbie" movies (actually 3 of 5 we have) that can be googled, but the Boxee database doesn't see them correctly. I suspect that these most likely were straight to video deals... so is there any way we can "fake it" so that something gets recognized and perhaps we can insert some kind of artwork that will show up in the "My Movies" list?

On Windows? You can search on XBNE to manually update the database directly; databoxee lite is another option but I'm not sure that it works as extensively.

Actually... Boxee is on my ATV and my system is a mac running OSX. I have submitted the forms BTW.

Hi folks I just got a boxee box and I'm having trouble getting it to index my videos.

I've named them correctly but it still doesn't work. My setup is a boxee box connected to a windows 7 64 bit Ultimate pc over a wireless network (not a Homegroup, just a regular workgroup). I also have an external hdd plugged into the boxee.

I've got episodes of The Sopranos on the hdd and the pc and it won't index either of them. The episodes are sitting in the following directory structure:

PC hard drive: C:\Videos\The Sopranos\Season 2\The.Sopranos.S02E01.avi
External hard drive: \\BOXEEBOX\screwdrive\Shows\The.Sopranos.S02E06.av i (where screwdrive is the name of the drive)

Am I missing something really obvious? I've been through loads of threads and all I can find is people having problems with obscure shows or ones with tricky names that have dates in them and stuff. I can't get it to index the one of the simplest shows possible, I'm using the exact same name as the one in this example!!!

Thanks in advance for any help!

C:\Videos\The Sopranos\Season 2\The.Sopranos.S02E01.avi

This should work and should show up in the Local TV Shows screen. If it doesn't then I have these questions:

Have you added C:\Videos to Boxee's Local Sources?
How long have you waited for Boxee to scan your network drives?
What does the Settings>>Local Sources screen say about the status of each source?
What happens if you go to Files>>Browse>>Network and browse to a Sopranos file/episode click on it and try to "identify" it manually?

Hi darcilicious,

I have added the C:\Videos folder to Boxee's sources.

I have been waiting serveral days for Boxee to scan the sources. I have scanned manually many times as well.

The Local Sources screen lists the two sources, the C:\Videos and External Hdd and says when they were last scanned

If I browse to the file and try to manually identify it, Boxee returns the correct synopsis and episode number, but when I select "Apply this to other files in this folder" and click Done, nothing changes. The files still don't appear in Shows.

When I navigate to Shows>Files I just a message saying 'No local media yet' and offering to 'Browse Sources', which brings me back to the Local Sources screen, with the sources above listed. Really don't know what to do at this point.

I am running Boxee 1.0 on the box and Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate on the PC.

take out the titles, they are optional, also add the dates that the series started as that always helps.

It's my issue, I think - I share the library with itunes, so I don't have titles that don't make sense.
Also I like to have the episode titles in there.

I'm completely new here and got my BoxeeBox yesterday. I'm now copying everything to a new HD which I will connect to the Boxee USB. Yesterday I already tried some files and found out the importance of the naming scheme. So I renamed everything and I am hoping when finished the most will be correct. But in the meanwhile...

I stumpled on this thread and can't help thinking, seeing the date people are having issues, why Boxee didn't yet build in an option to change the data for yourself? Or is there a way? Because if there is, I didn't notice it in this thread so please share. Someone talked about an nfo with some other software. But Boxee couldn't read this.

Ok for using IMDB but what about custom made DVD's? The DVD of your Marriage? The birth of your new son, daughter? What about them? IMDB won't put it online, that's for sure... So we never can add those? Kind of stupid, no?

My opinion, Boxee should use it's IMDB database for lookup, but also have the option to edit the data. Point to a cover, change details as year, comments, etc... If I'm correct Boxee has it's own DB so it should be possible.

Here is another plus: Giving us the edit option, you can save money on repeating everything to new customers, looking up problems that people send through that link.... You can free up people to give Boxee more features that will beat the competition. It's a win-win situation.

Just make it that Boxee tries to find it, then use the option to find it ourself in IMDB, but also the option for a "Custom made title".

And of topic: Can you also make an instant scan? There is the scan now option, but with it, boxee doesn't start scanning immediately. It was confusing at the beginning. I even wouldn't mind when I choose the "immediat" scan, that boxee shows a window "busy" until it is finished scanning.

PS: Because I'm new at boxee, forgive me if I'm completely wrong, but please correct me then, so I know also.

why Boxee didn't yet build in an option to change the data for yourself?

It's coming in the next release, in the form of NFO file support. Exactly how extensive NFO files will be supported hasn't been announced publicly.

Wow, fast reply... :)

It's coming then? Great news! For me it doesn't need to extensive. The title, cover, year and some comments will do alright.

Any thought on a timeframe? Or is that asking to much ;)

Thanx already.

Probably no later than sometime next month but nothing has been officially announced... (though the VP of Marketing stated during a recent podcast interview that there would be a release by the end of the month but sometimes these things get delayed).

I'm having problems getting boxee box to recognize TV show DVD rips. Originally it was a TV series in 13 episodes. That has since been released on DVD and that DVD I've ripped as an ISO file. So the one file contains all 13 episodes.

When I try to identify the file manually it's found in the search, but applying the name to the file fails since Boxee does not recognize the naming convention when season and episodes are left out.

I've tried "Show.Name.S01.iso" and even "Show.Name.S01E01-13.iso" without luck.

Boxee isn't going to like either of those filenames. But since you've ripped it to ISO and want to fake Boxee out into thinking you've got all 13 episodes, you could try something like this: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=14476
