View Full Version : Data Stored on Boxee USers

Just curious to know what data exactly is stored on Boxee users.

Does the app store and pass the actual FILE names on to the servers? or does it only check the movie name?

Same applies to music. Does the App pass ALL the file details on to servers?

I ask for those unscrupulous people that have amassed huge collections of music and videos via the internet (illegally), surely boxee will be a way for the MPAA/RIAA to track and go after these people if they share what they currently have on their machines...

boxee uses SQLite3 database which is located in the UserData/Database directory, the file is called, boxee_media.db. You can look into it with any SQLite3 viewer to view what we are storing (file location/name).

We index in the background and use the metadata tag(file name etc) to recognize it ...

Users can make there files private if they do not want boxee to index specific files/folder or content.

Maybe I simply misread your post Marcel, and if so I am sorry, but I think jag0 meant (and if he didn't I am curious) what information is actually passed to your servers, not what is stored on the computer itself?

Thanks for the reply :)

Just wanted to know how much 'privacy' we really had/have while using Boxee.

GREAT app and I'm so excited about the possibilities. Can't wait till the community grows larger.
