Ok I managed to get Boxee installed on my ATV, now what.

How do I actually use it. Is there a manual somewhere? How do I get it to play media that is on my local HD and not on the ATV.

Thanks

On the local HD, or streaming form another PC/Mac?

If you're streaming from a network source, you need to enable SMB sharing on it... Nest you need to add it as a source, in Settings > Media Sources > Network Sources.

I want to connect back to my mac.

I turned on SMB (I think), and I don't see anything on the network. It gives me an error.

hi Blacksmith

try this thread (http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=2921&postcount=4) and tell me if it does the trick..:)

Now I'm stuck.

I rebooted the ATV and now the remote does not work at all :(

Not sure where to go from here. I will leave it powered off for 10 min and see what happens.

I waited 10 min and rebooted my ATV and the remote still does not work. When I press a button the remote I see the led on the ATV flicker so the ATM is seeing the remote signal.

Any ideas on how to restore the ATV and start again?

Ok that problem is fixed. Went to the Apple site and found out how to pair the remote again.

hi Blacksmith

welcome to boxee

just want to confirm the thread i sent you regarding disabling the appleTV screen saver solved the problem of the remote..

regarding adding your drives ..select Settings>Media Sources>Local Sources then select "Add New Source" browse to the appropriate location(HD) then select "Add Source" ..enter a source name(for example "films") ,select the correct media content (e.g videos checkbox) and click "Add".

From the main screen select the appropriate content (e.g videos) >My Sources and from there your file("films") should be displayed..

on my AppleTV 21 and LG 1080p many labels insude boxee are not shown...i.e. the choice of content type - I see only the checkboxes to the labels...very strange...the video though is ok and centered

- this is in settings, the labels are not there (blank)

http://gallery.me.com/runimal#100006/photo1222946753798&bgcolor=black - the emply boxes I told about - otherwise everything works ok

sometimes in exits with error 11, but it's ok for an early release i think

When i try to add a new source, nothing pops up on the boxee screen on my aTV and i get a Error2

Best Regards

we just uplodaded a new version of boxee for Apple TV.

what we fixed:

* no need to disable the Apple TV screensaver
* back button (i.e. Menu) on the remote reacts faster and works in all screens
* the bittorrent download manager is now working

Well, I installed Boxee (latest version as of Oct 2), and after rebooting I lost control of my Apple Remote.

I was about to do a factory refresh, since pairing/unpairing did not work (strange, the selecting the language and factory refresh option DID work fine). But deleting ~/Library/LaunchAgents/tv.boxee.helper.plist did the trick.

The remote started working afterwards...

Why is Boxee taking control of the Remote?

It's a bug that should be fixed. In the meantime, check out http://wiki.boxee.tv/FAQ#What_do_I_do_if_my_Apple_remote_stops_working. 3F

Apple issued aTV update last night and I assume it overwrites any modifications :( I really hate to lose boxee functionality because of some stupid "genius" feature

I have enabled SMB sharing on my Mac Laptop, by going to preferences-sharing and checking the box.
Still, when I try to add a network source on the ATV I still get the message "error 2: no share available".
Could someone please post some detailed instructions on how to do this? Boxee is not very useful if I can't access the files on my laptop.

I don't know about the Samba/Nitotv stuff. Seems a little bit too complicated for me (don't know how to run ssh, etc...).
So there is no way to easily access files from Boxee via network sources?
Did anyone manage to do it? If not, what's the point of Boxee? Just to access internet services?

Did Factory Restore. Updated to ATV 2.2. Used Patchstick 2.1. Installed all options. Installed XBMC. Now when running XBMC the remote doesn't function and I have to reboot to get out of XBMC. Any tips? Ta.

Solution for XBMC

You need ssh installed on to AppleTV

ssh frontrow@appletv

sudo -s
cd /Application/XBMC.app/Contents/Resources/XBMC/
rm rm XBMCHelper
wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/svn/branches/temp/XBMCHelper
chmod +x XBMCHelper

thanks for prompt reply

hope, it will be soon, because i tend to leave boxee runing 24/7 on my atv :)

great piece of software!

it will not make a difference in power consumption :)

seriously ??

i thought it should 'eat' less in standby :D
if not - i see why it`s not implemented in boxee :)

If you want to put it in standby then just put it in standby on the ATV. It only amounts to a few extra button pushes to exit out of Boxee

TBH there is no real point in putting you ATV into standby mode, i have measured how much power it actually uses when in standby and while playing content.

ATV Playing content: 32W
ATV in standby mode 25-27W

Yes i guess you are properly thinking the same as me....super i can play HD content and spend less power then if i used a DVD or my PC to play the content from, however why have Apple produced a product thats not even close to conforming with current EnergyStar standards (EnergyStar 3 Certification sayes any device in standby mode should use <1W, and well the ATV is 25-27 times away from accomplishing that goal).

I love my ATV, but the ATV version 2 if/when it is released hopefully fixes this issue.

I had the same problem and was able to work around it by typing the name in manually.
