Update: This method is no longer supported by Boxee since the Beta but should still work in XBMC

I thought it would be cool to have a thread where everyone could share their additions to sources.xml

You are my hero! I have wrestled with the RSS feeds for weeks on weeks, in my spare time (never enough!) and failed to get mine to work. Not sure why it did not work before, but here is what I did after seeing yours, that finally allowed mine to work.

1. I made my icon 104x104 jpeg file
I was using a 200x200 png file. Can't see how this would matter... but I made this change.

2. I added the ?format=xml string on to the end of my feed.
Again, not sure why. Maybe, boxee wanted to see a link ending in "xml"?

But thanks for the insight to getting it working on boxee.

Basically, this feed pulls my video blogs out of my iTunes Podcast feed (Throughput Press), and renders them as a RSS feed.

I can now turn my attention to getting all the tags (including item artwork) hooked up.

Thanks again.

Awesome... thanks for sharing guys. I will look at adding some of these.

Your may also wish to check out Miro Guide @ www.miroguide.com and search for feeds of interest and then add them to your sources.xml.

Peace,

Looking at the ones above, I decided to make one for Make (The people behind Make Magazine).

There may be a better feed and I may tweek it myself in the future, but those interested, enjoy:

Wubbcast has alot of child friendly content:

I assume this can be added to the sources.xml (I have it through the "My rss feeds")

Here is one for TV LIBRARY (good for Mac & ATV)

UPDATE: No need to do what is below anymore thanks to the "App Box" feature

Just put in the plugin repository, "http://dir.thejakemarsh.com" - you'll instantly get the plugin, TV Library, under available applications
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
kudos to Jake Marsh (http://thejakemarsh.com/1808/)

(1) Download the following file - http://thejakemarsh.com/boxee/download/

(2) Extract it into a folder called “tvlibrary"

(3) Move this new “tvlibrary” folder into this folder:
/Username/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/apps/

(4) Find the “sources.xml” file and open it in a text editor. It can be found here:
/Username/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/username/sources.xml

(5) Look for the “<video>SOURCES</video>” block and add this into it:

Code:

<source>
<name>TV Library</name>
<path>app://tvlibrary/</path>
<private>false</private>
</source>

Enjoy

or you can add a specific miro content list feed like so:

<source>
<name>Miro Linux Feeds</name>
<path>rss://www.miroguide.com/rss/search/linux</path>
<private>false</private>
</source>

some miro feed formats:
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/new (new channels)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/featured (featured channels)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/popular (popular channels)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/toprated (top rated)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/categories/<name> (newest in a category)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/tags/<name> (newest in a tag)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/languages/<name> (newest in a language)
* https://www.miroguide.com/rss/search/<terms, separated by +> (search feed)

Hey thanks for this, it works a treat! You rekon there's any way in which you could code access to all the other content they have on the site? Seriously, there is so much potential there - audio podcasts, video podcasts, direct downloads, past streaming, live streaming...

It would make an awesome application if someone managed to incorporate it all

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference between adding an rss feed in Boxee under My Feeds and adding things to your sources.xml?

I mean boxee doesn't read sourcex.xml so adding sources there is pointless.

I'm afraid you don't understand the issue of breaking backwards compatibility

You stated that it's hard to test applications now. I assumed then that you're working on an application and have run into problems with testing it. So I pointed you to a forum where you might receive some assistance. If that's not what you're trying to accomplish then perhaps you could be more specific in describing what you need.

Your assumption regarding my understanding of backwards compatibility is incorrect. The beta version of Boxee is not backwards compatible with alpha and at times not even backwards compatible with previous beta versions.

Perhaps you don't understand the concept of beta?

I really don't get the attitude and name calling here. It's not necessary at and won't be tollerated.

Darcilicious did give you the links were it addresses how Beta deals with apps, their new location and how to update the xml files to test apps. All of which you did ask for.

In that link this one in particular addresses the file and testing directly:

Awesome.

darcilicious
February 7th, 2010, 01:24 PM
Right, I typo'd the URL slightly: http://forum.boxee.tv/forumdisplay.php?f=18 is probably a better fit for RSS apps, however, I believe the information in my first post was pertinent to app testing, which you brought up.

However, my mistake doesn't condone your behavior and that's why you're being er, "threatened", I suppose.

Feel free to have the last word as this is certainly my last post on this topic...
