for those who haven't tried. I am using the fancast plugin and seem to be able
to watch many shows that i can't watch on hulu.
battlestar galactica (scifi network)
dollhouse (fox)

The plugin is nice because you can add your series as favorites easy too, which is better then hulu implementation. I found plugin via the forums, don't have the link handy.

So if content providers kill hulu and make a competitor thrive, there loss

Since Fancast is a Comcast product I wouldn't count on it remaining available

Anything Comcast related, forget about it. They are the worst and the most evil company. Never use them never will...

Just checked out Fancast, it was shaky at best. Probably because it was just channeling hulu (at least for the Burn Notice episode that I tried to watch. Here's to hoping that Hulu (or somebody else) comes to their senses and realizes the opportunity (read: consumer base) that Boxee provides.

For anyone interested, I went ahead and made a Fancast icon to replace the default.tbn icon that came with the Fancast plugin listed here: http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=37985

Just save the attached file, rename it to default.tbn, and copy it over the existing default.tbn file included with the Fancast plugin. You will also need to edit your source.xml to point to the location on your hard drive the Fancast plugin is located. In my case, I had to add the following:

<thumbnail>/Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/plugins/video/fancast/default.tbn</thumbnail>

Anyhoo, enjoy!

Does the Fancast plugin have to be compiled? Copying it over to my plugins/video folder doesn't do anything. I see it as a video source, but it fails to load.

It's not Hulu's desire to block Boxee, it's the content providers. As soon as Fancast or similar is added to Boxee, it will surely be blocked as well. I say work on smoothing out the the rest of Boxee and worry about Hulu after an agreement has been reached. Everything takes $$$.

I don't know if this is your problem, but i had similar difficulty. I was putting it into the plungin folder under frontrow, but for whatever reason you actually should put it here:

(root)/Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/plugins/video

And it feels like the hulu player has higher quality, the queue, a few more videos, and a bit better organization. Fancast however doesn't have the slight video skip which can be really annoying on hulu. Fancast also doesn't have ads, which is as much of a minus as it is a plus. Its great to have both in case one gets taken away, but I don't find it unlikely that both will be taken down after awhile.

Judging by the xbmc forum, it looks like fancast isn't working right now through the plugin.

Anyone able to use fancast on boxee latest beta? I sure wish I could.
