View Full Version : App Box Repositories?

So aside from boxeehq, are there any other repositories out there I should be aware of? Is there any sort of centralized list of repositories?

Has anyone put together a repository of XBMC plugins that work well with boxee? I've had issues installing plugins before (I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but can't quite seem to get them to work properly when following the few (and sometimes somewhat inconsistent) instructions I've found.)

i dont see an option to add plugins placed in the dir like the old settings>applications menu. can we only use plugins from a repo now? i havent ran make install to override my 9.7 package and the plugins dont work now. but the new plugins 'HBO and MAKE' from the repo work on 9.7. then i looked into it and cannot find a way to manually add plugins in 9.9. so wheres it hidden boys? :D

I was also unable to get plug ins to work, there are some new ones out for XBMC, namely CBS (we have that but the XBMC one has more shows) and NBC, both of which I would love to have working

How do you even add boxeehq? What URL do you use?

I tried these for instance all of which failed.

http://boxeehq.com/category/plugins/feed
http://boxeehq.com/category/plugins/

Here's one for you to try out. Boxee tweeted this a couple days ago:

http://dir.thejakemarsh.com

And I just found this on BoxeeHQ's tweet stream:

http://dir.boxeehq.com

I got the URL for Boxee HQ from the blog post that came with the most recent Boxee update.

I also saw that dir.thejakemarsh.com one somewhere.

Are there any others? Because it seems like there should be!

Hey i wrote those plugins. i have an appletv i run boxee on. i plan to start adding support for boxee. i just released a USA Network plugin in my quest for the return of as much hulu content as possible. right now i am unifying my NBC, USA, and my soon to Be Sci-Fi script into a single plugin. they are all nbc universal companies and all rely on a single content server and amf gateway.

That's great news, I can't wait to hear about your progress. If you need a tester for any plugin for boxee PM me :)

Well, I've put my repo online. There's nothing in it at the moment, but hopefully by the end of the week there will be.

First app coming down the pipeline will be one for The Weather Channel. Until then you get to just see the UnBoxeed logo which is lil' Boxee peeking out of a box, hehe. :)

You sir, rock. Code away, personally I like the idea of having a seperate app for each channel, to make it more like cable. but thats just me, I will take whatever tv goodness you can write, love the weather channel idea

Yeah, this app is constantly evolving. At first it was going to be a manual modification to several Boxee files to enable the xbmc weather functionality in Boxee. Then it kind of turned a new direction when I realized the internal xbmc weather code didn't pull all the info I wanted (precipitation, pressure, sunrise/sunset, etc) from weather.com. Now it's going to be it's own plugin that references some internal Boxee settings, but for the most part pulls its own data from weather.com.

well i finished unifying the plug-ins. i released it over on xbmc forum on the svn repo. i haven't started testing and debugging it on boxee yet. i want to get to a little further with the plug-in right now it only lists full episodes and i want to list more clips and special content from nbc.com. one cool thing that is already possible in the plugin is to watch the new battlestar galacticas streaming with commentary from scifi. i didn't know they did that.

anyway just be patient and in a little while hopefully a nice full featured version will be out for boxee. there is one guy on xbmc who said he used my previous plugins with boxee but i can't guarantee this one will work because i haven't used it.

hey bluecop,

I was playing with your plugin on xbmc and it was working great.

It seems to be working fine for me in boxee.

I just threw the plugin in the <boxee-app-folder>/plugins/video

and then put this in the video section my sources.xml

<source>
<name>NBC Universal</name>
<path>plugin://video/NBC Universal/</path>
<thumbnail>Q:/plugins/video/NBC Universal/default.tbn</thumbnail>
<private>false</private>
</source>

Question about the app box repositories, when you add something to boxee via a repository, are updates to the apps pushed to the repo automatically downloaded the next time a user runs that app..?

all new plugins that are added to the repositories will always be displayed in the New Applications Screen from where you can choose whether to download or not

Right, I understand that part. I was trying to figure out if there was also some sort of update functionality for apps that you've already downloaded. If there's documentation somewhere explaining how the repositories work and are set up, just point me that way and I'll read quietly :)..

thanks for you help, and of course for boxee.

I am sorry for this stupid question, but what do you need to do to setup a repository that app box can access. I see that most people use an address like http://dir.something.com is this address required or do I just need to have an address that will expose the required files?

talking about the required files and directories is this basicly what I would need:

index.xml (containing the info about each app on the site)
repository.xml (contains info about the repository site)
download (directory that contains the zip files for the apps in index.xml)

I also see that people include an apps directory where they store things like .png's that are used in the index.xml and repository.xml files.

Is this everything that I would need?

Do most people just use there own web space for this or do some people use something like google code or other type free sites?

(BTW - I have created the boxeeVPN plugin and I really would like to get it into a repository so the install is easier)
thanks,

I don't know if anyone cares or not, but I was having the same problem trying to find a list of repositories ... so I took the opporutunity to add a wiki page for the App Box and it has a section for repositories. Tell your friends and add a new one if you know of it: http://wiki.boxee.tv/App_Box

Are there supposed to be any apps in the jakemarsh repository? I have yet to see anything. Same with unboxeed but at least I have seen updates via @unboxeed on Twitter.

Would love to know if there are more than just three known repositories right now and also if any contain apps outside of the official Boxee repository.

Either way, good thread, looking forward to some new bells & whistles!

Just for convenience here are all the repositories I know of. Please add to this list if you can.

http://dir.unboxeed.com
http://dir.thejakemarsh.com
http://dir.boxeehq.com/

Is anyone working on a better interface for TED? I'd really like to have some of the features you have on the web site - searching, sorting, etc. I'd be more then glad to do it my self but it might take a few years...

The UnBoxeed repo should start seeing activity next week. The Weather Channel app is finally going to see the light of day. :)

This post explains it all:

Maybe I'm missing something (scratches head). I've added both your feed and the other ones to the repositories but no new apps are showing up in the "new applications" section.

I'm using Boxee on a Mac. Help! Reading about all these cool apps and then not being able to try them out is driving me nuts! (like peering into a candy store from the outside) :)

Thanks. I actually thought I was not seeing anything from ANY respositories but the reason was because I was blind :)

Turns out some of the new stuff from the other repositories were mixed in with the stuff and I just was not looking hard enought :)

if anyone has questions about nbc's videos/feeds, let me know. maybe i can be of some help. i have first hand experience working for them with their video content ... importing it and using it in various areas of the internet. i'm intimately familiar with their system (which sucks but don't tell them I said that haha).

i'm new to boxee but want to learn how to make apps and contribute. i'm just so so soooo busy with so many personal projects and work. but again, if my insight can be of any help please just let me know. private message me or something, i can't promise when i'll look at these forums next.

ps-no i can't share any kinda password type information obviously. absolutely not. but anything in the "public domain" so to speak (and there is, you just need to know how to access it) is free game i imagine.

This is a very old thread! Consider open a new one about nbc.

oh, i just googled and found it. maybe there's tons of progress since then. i hope so. the current tv stuff isnt working real well for me. doesnt load or gets cropped. loading web sites half arse just isnt a good solution. maybe all the networks will build apps for boxee. (i hope)
