What plugin are you trying to install?

Do you have a link?

I'm having the same problem. My plugins are PitchforkTV, SceneReleases, Video Monkey and Video Devil. A couple of notes: I had them all working (more or less) before the latest ATV update (and before the recent Boxee updates). I just redid the patchstick install last night and updated to the .9.9.5 test version of Boxee. After the patchstick install and update, I did have to re-upload the plugin folders to the appropriate ATV folder location described above. The icons show up under App Box/New Applications, but I get the same error noted above.

Also, my experience with the .9.9.5 update on my MBP15" was quite different - those same plugins still work, and were still there after the update (no need to re-install).

I would assume that the App Box has replaced the application settings tab in this latest version of boxee

I've been trying to sort out the installation of a plugin on Apple TV. Not an application, but a plug in i.e. Fancast.

I've seen some older posts like this one and the file installation string does not exist on ATV any longer. It has changed.
Examples:
This post lists and others list: Boxee.app/Content/Resources/plugins/video

There is no longer a Boxee.app/Content/Resources/plugins/video

What is on ATV is:
Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/apps
or
Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/plugins/video
or
Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/(your username)/apps

BoxeeHQ lists info on how to install plugins, but that too is somewhat out of date. You can sort of modify it and get a plug in to show program listings, but trying to play the show produces a Python Script Error.

Now, I'm trying to install the Fancast plugin (http://github.com/rectalogic/xbmc-fancast-plugin/tree/master). It may not work due to the current 9.12.6566 ATV build or it flat out don't work. The original post for Hulu2 and Fancast (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=6120&highlight=fancast+plugin) sort of mixes the installation of the Hulu2 as an App and then Fancast as a plugin/app. If you install Fancast as an app, it shows in the Application listing, but you can't install it. If you install as a plugin, it just shows up under Applications, but you get a python error when you try to play a specific show episode.

Here is how I installed Fancast Plug In:

Installed Fancast Plugin Folder Here-Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/plugins/video
Then.....
In Boxee went to Settings, Media Sources, Manually Add Source- plugin://video/fancast/
Then Restart Boxee
Fancast is listed under Applications - Video. The source.xml has Fancast listed correctly in the source.xml file. <path pathversion="1">plugin://video/fancast/</path>

You can then click Fancast under Applications, you get All Movies or All Series. Movies just sits and sits. Series will list everything and give details. If you play the show you get a Python Script Error - special://home/plugins/video/fancast/default.py

I guess I'm asking several things here.
1-Can we get an updated file path installation instructions for Plugins for Boxee on all formats?
2-Am I installing this plugin correctly?
2:a- If I am, might Fancast work with the new 9.13 coming?
2:b- If I'm not, how should I install a plugin?
3- Does Fancast plug in even still work? Or does it have to now become a full fledged application...

Whew.....

This is driving me nuts. Every thread about installing plugins on the Apple TV says: got to settings->applications etc. As in:

"You will then need to add it as an application in boxee by going to settings/applications and selecting BoxeeVPN"

My ATV Boxee settings screen does not have a heading anywhere saying "Media Sources and Applications". Accordingly I can't select to add "an application". Any ideas please?

Shortly after my last post in July back when I was fairly new with ATV, I learned that plugins no longer work on Alpha.

That's when found I could add Fancast RSS links to my profile on Boxee.tv and have them show up in the My Video application in Boxee, which is now disabled for a few more weeks since beta got underway.

Sorry, there is no other way around plug ins for alpha or Beta boxee whether on ATV, Windows, Linux or mac. .

Hmm. Thank you for the info. This is a bit of a drag since I only bought my Apple Tv a few days ago with the expectation that I could:

install Boxee on it
install openvpn
install the Boxee VPN Plugin
use a UK VPN service to access BBC iplayer from Canada.

I'm therefore feeling a bit stupid. Where does this leave me ? (apart from paddle-less!)

I'm hoping one of the Boxee Team can help.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm irish and want to use an Irish VPN to access Irish TV .

Well a true plug in is not possible, but I thought that the VPN option was doable in some fashion.

Try the search option for VPN in the main page or within the Apple TV section to see what's available and how to install a VPN solution.

Hello
Thank you for your reply. I'm still very much at a loss as to why plugins are not available for Apple TV particularly as the two threads below specifically mention them:

http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=5682&highlight=vpn

and this one:

http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=6872&highlight=vpn

Is this confusing or what? Perhaps when the boxee boys are back from the consumer electronics show they can help out?
