hi optical

not sure what you want ..if you select video >video internet

you will see lots of content ...

if you would like to add an rss quite easily - Settings->Media Sources->Manual Add Source and put in the url starting with rss://

cheers

Not the best list, but you can search Google Video by subject and date and add the RSS feed for that search.

Simple, seemingly uncomplicated comedy layered with social commentaries on media, pop culture and some seriously offbeat twists gives "Two Guys Drinking At A Bar" a welcome push for Internet Television that brings back memories of old school Saturday Night Live laughs.

how does this work with metacafe, or veoh, or hulu?

Metacafe's recent would be http://www.metacafe.com/recent.rss but when I enter this into the sources, it tells me that it failed to read the rss. In my feed reader it works fine.

Can you not link to Veoh, Metacafe, etc?

Can you not link to Veoh, Metacafe, etc?

that link doesn't resolve for me... the closest i found was:
http://www.metacafe.com/top_videos/newest/rss.xml

as far as hulu, no good. boxee can't play embedded flash (yet).
for veoh, they should work with the veoh proxy from the other thread.

lastly, metacafe also looks like it's embedded flash.

phillipsmn
October 13th, 2008, 07:46 PM
Ok. Got it...I didn't realize that embedded flash wasn't available.

How do I use the veoh proxy. Since I have it running with Ninja Video (thanks alot!) now can I just add the veoh rss link to my sources and it will work?

agentlame
October 13th, 2008, 08:14 PM
just download VeohAllPlatforms.rar from:
http://code.google.com/p/voinage-xbmc-plugins/downloads/list

and follow all the ninjavideo steps again, replacing 'ninja video' for 'veoh' in all the paths, and sources.xml.

you don't have to redo anything involving the proxy. (including autoexec.py)

October 13th, 2008, 08:30 PM
Gotcha. That was easy and it worked great. Thanks again.

Maybe I could post these steps to the wiki or something?

agentlame
October 13th, 2008, 08:48 PM
i'm really glad you got it all working!

a how-to on the steps would be great.

there is a wiki at: wiki.boxee.tv ... but there isn't much there yet.

the reason i post most of my how-tos in the forums is because that is where most people come, at the moment.

it's your call, though.

Pretty straight forward xml. But if boxee expects another format it would be nice to know, so I can write my own feed transformer.. Or maybe its because of the link to the video itself?

Any feedback is appreciated :)

i know this is the worst and most generic advice known to man... and as some one who works in tech support, i apologize in advance...

have you tried restarting your atv? the reason i ask is that there are a ton of reports about boxee behaving badly before the first restart, after it has been freshly installed.

agentlame
October 25th, 2008, 10:57 AM
you shouldn't have to, no... it may not even be the issue.

it's just that i've two things about the apple tv a lot:
1. boxee's flaky after first install.
2. boxee's flaky if your hard drive is full (or close to).

speaking of which, do you have a fair amount of free space?

Just for clarity, by reboot do you mean unplug and replug or just a soft reboot? I'm guessing the former, but wanted to check as the latter would save me some crawling around.

i couldn't say, as i don't own an atv... all i know is what i've read 'round these parts. people have just said 'reboot'.

latter followed by the former, maybe? :)

I have Boxee on my ATV and just added a feed via the website. It showed up on my ATV without any restart and ran just fine. I only restarted the ATV once, this was after the initial install. I unplugged it.

BTW, I leave my ATV on the frontrow menu after I am finished using Boxee. I had to start up Boxee to see if the feed was there, maybe that makes a difference.

Just a note to my previous post. After further testing it seems that you need to exit Boxee and and restart Boxee via the frontrow menu when you want a new feed to show up. Hope that helps.

Hi,

I've added a lot of RSS feeds, in my account. None of them work.
I can see the feeds on the apple tv and click on them. But if I want to play I get a black window (message). The only thing I can do is click on ok and I'll be back into the feeds menu.

I have tried rebooting, my hard drive has enough space etc. What can it be????

Please help anyone!!!!

Has anyone had success in creating RSS for Youtube Playlists? Rather than put my videos into Favorites, I add them to playlists so I can watch them based on subject.

I've used a few RSS generators, but they feed back SWF, rather than FLV. I'm on the lookout for a tool where I can enter the Youtube Playlist ID/URL and receive back an RSS feed that I can then add to Boxee.

Yes I know that...I'm looking to add a show, not the entire hulu catalog.
I'm trying to add it to my feeds, but I'm not having any luck. I would like to add the heroes rss feed to Boxee "My Feeds"
So when I'm on hulu and click the rss feed for heroes I get this link using firefox
http://www.hulu.com/feed/show/61/episodes
No when I log onto Boxee at "http://app.boxee.tv/home" and goto My RSS, I add that link. It takes it (no errors) but no Episodes for Heroes show.
When I run boxee and go to "my feeds" I get "Failed to read RSS feed"
I click ok and I get "Load Error" "Failed to retrieve data"

I know the I must be doing it wrong. Shouldnt the link have rss in it? I just dont know how to get the correct link. Can anyone help me with this?

Be cool if there was a firefox addon that you could have it automatically add the rss to boxee.

I think the rss links for hulu are flash files. You can't use flash in Boxee. I would try using your rss link, http://www.hulu.com/feed/show/61/episodes, in the same way danb described for putting your hulu queue (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=1123&highlight=hulu+queue). It will probably be in "Video" > "Internet" instead of your "My Feeds".

I just signed up for feedfool and hulu to see how it works. I used a different feed from hulu (feed://www.hulu.com/feed/search/Heroes) instead of the one you used because it gives more content such as comments and director comments. I did just as danb described and it did fine on my boxee on aTV.

I'm using Boxee on Apple TV. I have added the TED Talks RSS video feed and it works fine. However, the other RSS video feeds I added (Strike TV, The Guild, and College Humor) are evidently flash and do not work.

So, what RSS feeds have you found that work?

I have found a way to customize the RSS feeds available in the Internet Archive to return a feed containing a single olde tyme TV show instead of a whole collection. First, go to the classic_tv collection of the archive:

http://www.archive.org/details/classic_tv

You will see an RSS link for recent additions, copy it's URL:

http://www.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=classic_tv

Add a query to the URL containing the title of the TV show you want to filter on. This one is for "The Life of Riley":

http://www.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=classic_tv&query=subject%3A%22Life%20of%20Riley%22

Make a TinyURL to this new URL because the Boxee RSS does not work on long or escaped URLS. Here is one ready to go for Life of Riley:

http://tinyurl.com/lifeofrileys1

Add this feed to Boxee and presto, you get (mostly) a feed containing only Life of Riley. Sometimes there are other stray vids showing, but they are easy to ignore. I also have one for Victory at Sea:

http://tinyurl.com/victoryatsea

The one hitch is that the feed name will not reflect the content, all feeds will have the same "classic_tv" name. It would be nice to be able to edit these names when creating the feed.

THE STUPID FORUM SYSTEM SHORTENED MY URLS - HOVER OVER THEM TO SEE THE ACTUAL URLS.
