Hi -
I have an airport extreme disk with a shared USB drive attached. I currently have all my media stored on the airport shared disk. I am able to get to this content from AppleTV through my Macbook - I used the option key and dragged the content into the Macbook's iTunes and then access it through the AppleTV's shared computer content.

I would like to have Boxee access this media directly. I would like to store my DVD's video_ts folders on this drive and have Boxee access that directly.

I have tried everything I can to get this to work - I tried setting up the network source, typing in the IP address but it doesn't show the drive. It says it can't find content. Has anyone had success in setting up an airport shared disk with Boxee/AppleTV.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew this is a known bug that you can find referenced in the forum. We are working on it, and this is what causes your "loading" to blink from the other forum post you made.

It tries to load each .VOB one-by-one - hence the blinking. Again, we're working on the issue with the Extreme/Time Capsule and their handling of SMB shares.

Mounting your drive in OS-X via AFP:// or using the Extreme Disk Agent will solve this problem in the mean time.

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any update to the known issue mentioned in this post. Is there still an issue with getting Boxee on AppleTV accessing a shared drive on Airport extreme?

Thanks,
Alun.

P.S. I love Boxee, just need a better remote for my AppleTV.

I am unaware of any bug.

I have been using Boxee to play content from my Airport Extreme USB hard disk since I first got Boxee last year.

On the Airport Extreme - turn-off user accounts. And allow Guest Read Write. Set up the Workgroup name. - and then point Boxee at the SMB share.

It works fine.

I seem to have the same issue with the drives connected to the Airport Extreme if I don't manually mount this first.

And I understand your workaround posted may work, but it certainly not a ultimate solution. I have a password on my shared drives for a reason.

I have written a guide that should walk you through making solid afp-automounts via the commandline that you can then add to boxee as local sources:

http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?p=90085#post90085

This is the way I do it with my TimeCapsule and it works totally. I also use the same setup to share my iTunes Library between all of my macs, so it's very versatile.
