View Full Version : MAC and Boxee newbie help

Hi there fellas,
I have a couple of questions that I wanna get clear on. I am not at all familiar with MAC terminologies and don't really know hot they apply.

I) I was reading the Boxee blog on how to create a USB pacthstick. It reads:
how to install boxee on your Apple TV:

1. download the ATVUSB-Creator from http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/
2. insert a “bootable” USB drive into your Mac (Windows and Linux versions coming soon)

What does it specifically mean by "bootable" in MAC OS X terminology? Do I have to format the flash in a certain way BEFORE I apply the ATVUSB creator software? OR will the creator automatically format and make the flash bootable?

II) The video by Dave Matthews says towards the end that you HAVE to be a registered user on Boxee in order to be able to use it on your AppleTV.
Where do I register? Or is being registered on the forum considered to be a registered Boxee user?
I DID go to "http://www.boxee.tv" and I only see two options on there which are logins for alpha users and sign ups for Boxee alpha. I'm confused. Do I need to be an Alpha user in order to use Boxee on my ATV that I downloaded from the google projects website?

I would appreciate if someone could please take the time and paitence to answer my questions. Thanks a bunch!
I'm getting my AppleTV in the mail on Friday! Can't wait to put Boxxe on it!

regarding 'bootable' see here:

you do need an invite to use boxee, but not to install it.
