View Full Version : Navi-X plugin for Boxee!!!

Long Deep Sigh... okay, I posted earlier Navi-X is now available for Boxee... what I didn't know is it was in Beta, and not supposed to be released immediately. Apparently it does still have some decent bugs in them and I misunderstood this. I was anxious and that what's my bad! ;) The good news is you can still at least check out the preview for Navi-X on Boxee, or at least certain versions. The person testing this is also the creator of the script Rodejo, and tells me he was using Boxee 0.9.7.4826M of 7 Jan 2009 and Linux Ubuntu Version 8.04 LTS when he tested this and it worked for the most part, but NO PROMISES! Sorry again to hype up the plugin, but I think it will be something appreciated in the long run!
Check out www.navi-x.org for a video demo and links to the script for XBMC. We also have a live simulator for Navi-X that gives you a pretty good working demo for you to tinker with until we announce it is ready for prime time! Have a good one!

Download Navi-X Media Browser v2.7 plugin for Boxee here!!!

Any chance you could put your app in a repository?

For us challenged types!!

:D

Looks great - can't wait to try it!!

Just a quick note to anyone reading this, I had to change the link a couple of times because it wasn't working at first, but this one should be fine now!

Thanks for the plugin, it sounds neat. However, the latest versions of Boxee make it difficult to install a new add-on without an App Box repository. The link posted above is an SVN repository, which won't help most of the people here.

For Linux, the path to place the unzipped folder is:
/opt/boxee/plugins/video/
AppleTV/Mac:
/Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/plugins/video/
Windows:
c:\Program Files\Boxee\plugins\video\

From there, add the plugin with the AppBox.
I don't think Navi-X is compatible with Boxee though. Every link displays a 'read more' but never a link to the video (unless I am missing something).

If anybody is having technical issues with Navi-X, please e-mail the programmer Rodejo at rodejo16@gmail.com with specific details regarding the issue. Rodejo claims it works and works well on Boxee, but since I don't use Boxee, maybe there is something I am missing as far as getting it to work.

Please e-mail him and he'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Definitely doesn't work for me.

This hung up my Boxee app pretty hard. Had to ssh into the box and kill all boxee processes.

Did you test this at all on a Boxee machine. Not to sound negative, but it doesn't seem so.

To be honest, no, I didn't test this. Didn't install Ubuntu and XBMC then Navi-X. I was told by a reliable source it is working fine, but apparently it's not. I'm sorry for the technical problems folks but I just e-mailed the maker of the plugin and he should get back to me really soon!

I promise you the maker is looking into it and will fix whatever the issue is very soon I'm sure. Sorry about the lack of testing...Navi-X is coming from XBMC and XBMC users so give it a moment and well get it working. Check out our website if it's not working for you for now... there's an online version called the Navi-X Simulator which is working fine besides the XBMC versions. And again I'm very sorry for the troubles!

**BTW, Rodejo made this script, not me... even though I'm talking about it, I didn't make it...I just work with the guy, lol.

liquid64: Thanks, I'd been trying to do that in the apps folder, thought plugins was deprecated for some reason.

I got a message saying I could not add the application when adding from the App Box. Has anyone succeeded with this one?

liquid64

Dr Jest: are you on windows? (specifically 0.9.9?). There is a bug in the appbox that doesn't allow you to add xbmc plugins. You can, however, edit the sources.xml doc that is in your user directory, and add the entry for whatever xbmc plugin you need.

If you want the beta version of the plugin to work, ensure you are using Boxee 0.9.7.4826M of 7 Jan 2009 and Linux Ubuntu Version 8.04 LTS!!! If you are not using these versions of Boxee and Linux, then do NOT worry about it! Rodejo is working on the plugin still as it is officially still BETA and it should not be expected to work on any other Boxee/Linux revision combination other than Boxee 0.9.7.4826M of 7 Jan 2009 and Linux Ubuntu Version 8.04 LTS!

The final plugin will work with all revisions in the near future and I will let everyone know here as soon as possible. Thanks.

ALSO, for those of you having problems with the repository, try this...

Good news people!! Navi-X 3.0 is finally available for XBMC!!! This means next stop on the Navi-X train is Boxee!!! After a long time coming, Rodejo has told me he will begin work on the Navi-X plugin for Boxee as soon as possible. He's just waiting on some final 3.0 tweaks for the full release to be put out, then it's on to Boxee!! Until then, enjoy our complimentary YouTube video demo of 3.0 in action on XBMC... coming soon to a Boxee near you! I'll let you know when there is a release date scheduled!!

Just ask him about me and I'm sure he'll start cussing up a storm just hearing my name, ha!

Well I have to be honest guys... I've been using XBMC for sooooo long with the Navi-X script, and I'm a relative noobie to Boxee here, so I'm hoping someone could help me out who's familiar with using plugins in Boxee...

The Navi-X 3.0 Plugin is finally available for distribution! From what I have been told, everything works fine in Boxee minus a small hiccup I believe Rodejo took the liberty to resolve but I'm not 100% sure on that. I was hoping someone could install and test the plugin for me cause I'm busy at the moment working on an all-nighter dvd production.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback regarding the plugin as an incredible amount of work has been spent generating the ungodly amount of content that is available in Navi-X. I use it all the time on XBMC in script version and I'm happy as a pig in $hit. I hope you enjoy Navi-X as much as I do. Props goes out to Ivano / Ghizzu for helping us catch up on this asap!

This is a great news! I have been looking forward to it for some time. However, I still cannot get it to work with boxee in linux intrepid.

I extracted the plugin in my /opt/boxee/plugins/video/ folder. It shows up in the app box, but when I try to install it, the pop up box that should say that my application has been installed just shows "App Box" and "ok". When I click on ok, it brings me back to the app box and the application is still there.

Am I not supposed to go through the app box to install it?

Cheers!

Honestly, I tried this myself and after about 15 minutes of not getting it to work, I gave up and decided to wait. I'm still working on this dvd production as I speak, but when I'm done, I will reach out to the guy who helped with this and see if he can't come here and explain how and what he got his copy working on boxee. Otherwise, check out http://navix.turner3d.net and go to forums and search "3 plugin" to get the Navi-X 3 plugin feedback. Even post a message to him and he'll get back asap.

Well it appears Team Boxee has made it so XBMC scripts and plugins will no longer work with Boxee... apparently they have some sort of concern with Boxee users utilizing "non-authorized" plugins on Boxee.

I'm not sure what their concerns are but I have been told this is in fact the case. If someone could shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it. Otherwise, Navi-X 3.0 is in fact NOT compatible with Boxee.
Rodejo has expressed to me he still has interest in porting Navi-X over for Boxee users... the question is how long will this take and when will the work begin... neither of which I know.

Good news though... XBMC 9.11 is now in stable release and works "incredibly" with Navi-X 3.0!! I've never seen XBMC and Navi-X run soooo fast and with so few problems... kudos to Team XBMC and Rodejo for making both run faster and better than ever before.

frankboxeetv
May 7th, 2010, 10:22 AM
Looking into this and assuming porting the Navi-X xbmc plugin to Boxee would be hard work, I found that it might be easier to create a Boxee app that strips out alot of the fancy Navi-X features and just uses navi-xtreme (http://navix.turner3d.net/) playlists and processors to get to the content.

This is what I can do manually in my browser to get a link to a "The Cleveland Show" episode using the videofriender navi-xtreme processor.

1- Click the "Navi-X simulator" link at http://navix.turner3d.net/

2- In the url bar, I get the main navi-x playlist
http://www.navi-x.org/playlists/med_port.plx

3- Looking into this, I'll go the Navi-Xtreme Media Portal playlist
http://navix.turner3d.net/playlist/index.plx

4- Then go to User media - full list
http://navix.turner3d.net/playlist/all.plx

5- Then go to Boseman's Playlist since I know there is a lot of content there
http://navix.turner3d.net/playlist/17830/bosemans_playlist.plx

6- Go to Boseman's TV
http://navix.turner3d.net/playlist/17934/bosemans_tv.plx

7- Then to The Cleveland Show
http://navix.turner3d.net/playlist/20452/the_cleveland_show.plx

8- Let's say I want The Cleveland Show S01E03. Then playlist entry is:
type=video
name=The Cleveland Show S01E03
URL=http://videofriender.com/videos/my_video?id=400263
processor=http://navix.turner3d.net/proc/videofriender
player=default

The processor is hosted on the website and is used to output a direct link to the file I want. The documentation I used is here:
http://navix.turner3d.net/proc_docs_old/

It says this method is deprecated but it still worked for me.

Following the steps described in the documentation

Phase 1: Navi-X submits data to the processor to initiate “instruct” mode

http://navix.turner3d.net/proc/videofriender?url=http://videofriender.com/videos/my_video?id=400263

Phase 2- Instruct mode: The processor returns scrape URL and parsing regular expression

This is what is returned:
http://embed.videofriender.com/videos/embed?id=400263
name="src" value="([^"]+)

Phase 3: Navi-X scrapes and parses remote data
I view the source of http://embed.videofriender.com/videos/embed?id=400263 and

The line in question that matches is
<param name="src" value="http://nu.videofriender.com:8080/videos/0040/0263/611d4eb091e0984697376bcd121ead46af4ed1ba.avi" />

And the variable that needs to be sent back to the processor is
http://nu.videofriender.com:8080/videos/0040/0263/611d4eb091e0984697376bcd121ead46af4ed1ba.avi

Phase 4- Process mode: The processor assembles the final URL for playback

http://navix.turner3d.net/proc/videofriender?v1=http://nu.videofriender.com:8080/videos/0040/0263/611d4eb091e0984697376bcd121ead46af4ed1ba.avi

returns
http://78.159.107.115/videos/0040/0263/611d4eb091e0984697376bcd121ead46af4ed1ba.avi

which is what Boxee needs to play. It's most likely a temporary link.

A Boxee app that just browses playlists and uses processors might be pretty easy to create and retain much of the available content. At least the videofriender processor is easy to use.

frankboxeetv

I've started building a Navi-X app for Boxee. I can read a local navi-x playlist and a play a video from it. I use the CURLLoader and CPlayList class from Navi-X to read the playlist and use the Navi-X processor (I call it "the secret sauce") to retrieve the final URL to play. It often makes Boxee crash as well. My main objective is to be able to browse the Navi-X playlists and play content. This is my first Boxee app and first time trying python. I don't know if a complete port to the Boxee API is within possibility at my skill level.

I'd gladly accept help from someone more experienced in boxee UI and python development.

Frank,

Thanks for getting in touch with us! Glad to see you like the simulator of our Navi-X script on our media portal. I have received your emails at this point, but I figured I would revisit the Boxee forum now since someone FINALLY got back to us, lol!

We have been diligently working on porting over Navi-X to WiiMC and I'm proud to say we are also now accessible on modded Wii's as well via WiiMC!

As for recreating the Navi-X interface in Boxee's API, I trust you will do whatever you can to help us make this a reality! If all turns out well, we can even port over our 85 "processors", like website plugins so Boxee users will be able to add links to video host sources like Videofriender, MegaVideo, 66 Stage and soooooo much more!! Would be awesome to finally complete the list of missing content on Boxee via internet hosts! Maybe we can also eventually offer audio, rss feeds, podcasts and the rest of the content we offer via Boxee one day!

If anyone with some uber-skill could contact one of our software coders on Team Navi-X at www.navi-x.org, we would love to bring that warm, fuzzy feeling Navi-X gives our users to Boxee users finally. Also, contact "frankboxeetv" as he is officially our point of contact for "Navi-X on Boxee". Any help bringing this app over to Boxee would be greatly appreciated!

Good news folks... looks like Frank here is gonna help us out with porting over Navi-X to Boxee!! The latest news as of today from Frank himself is he has a working version of the Navi-X plugin for Boxee and here's what it can do:

- Navi-X 3.2 (LATEST!!) Skin implemented into the plugin!!
- Navigation and parsing of .plx multimedia playlists!!
- Video, Audio, RSS, YouTube, NASA TV parsing working!!

Combine this with the fact you can make your own playlists on http://navix.turner3d.net, and you can see we are on the way very soon to our final destination... Boxee!!

This is an incredible start to the plugin and we will be in touch with Frank to coordinate an official release of the Navi-X plugin very soon!! Thanks again Frank for all your help!

He is doing great work so far based on the betas I'm seeing so I am excited as everyone else to see his progress! Patiently waiting for his version 1 Boxee plugin of our popular app / system. Check the website out if you don't know what it's all about, while we eagerly wait for Navi-X 1.0 for Boxee!!

I hope I speak for a lot of people when I say that if it wasnt for the navi-x plugin with xbmc, I would have shot my atv a long time ago. If this works with boxee then life just got much better :D

Navi-x is frankly amazing.

Semper fidelis.

Everyone!!

I have awesome news... it looks like I'm currently in possession of the long awaited Navi-X plugin for Boxee and I have to say it is awesome!!! I am waiting right now to get the word from our friend to release this... will try to search the forums for adding this to repositories, but will offer a direct link to downloading it here for manual installation as well!

All I can say is it looks and feels EXACTLY like the Navi-X script for XBMC, but even faster (didn't know that was possible :D )and more stable then ever before!!! This is like the greatest thing ever, but I can't officially hand it out yet!! Tons of updates will have to follow shortly afterwards I guarantee it, but here are a couple of screenshots to wet your whistle, while I am literally now waiting for an okay on releasing it!! It could be any minute now... see you again soon!!

We are expecting a release of the plugin next weekend or the week after latest, based on my conversations with the dev and Rodejo earlier today!! Can't wait to get it out to you but we wanna make sure it's 100% before everyone gets a copy. See you all soon!

Here are video demo's of the Navi-X plugin on Boxee on YouTube...

The first link is to the actual Navi-X plugin in action on Boxee to show a short
3-minute demo of the actual plugin in action...
The second link is a more extensive showing of it's capabilities from an XBMC demo... they look exactly alike.

Currently, the Boxee plugin doesn't support text, html and images, but it may very well in the near future! The rest of the features you see in the demo though definitely will work in Boxee very soon... check it out!

P.S. What's so hard about downloading a file and copying it to this directory? Should be a piece of cake... but never the less well upload it to a repo no problems. :D
