View Full Version : Indexing Network Shares?

October 20th, 2008, 08:43 PM
Got an ATV today to put boxee on after the hulu announcement. I must say, I wish the video was better on that, but i'm sure it will come. Neither here nor there:

I have an external drive sharing with smb from my macbook pro. Boxee can see the shares, I can browse, and I can even manually recognize a movie, but it doesnt appear to index manually. Is there a way to force it to index a source? Does it not index network sources by default? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you add at settings/Media Sources and Applications/Network sources ?

I'm not totally sure what you mean by adding as an application source... I added as a media source, and it does actually appear to index files i put in the root of a shared folder to monitor, but not in any subfolders. i.e. it will index sharename/filename.avi but not sharename/foldername/filename.avi

Is there a setting I need to check for recursion?

Doh. I had a shortcut to /Volumes I had forgotten about. boxee was just indexing that stuff first. Nevermind!

@Charlesv - I have a similar problem...boxee first indexed everything well, then I (perhaps stupidly) re-org'd the media into subfolders (with recursion turned on in OSX prefs), and now either boxee doesn't see the media, or it's indexing but not showing the spinning gear (i can't tell).

in my movies/tv shows screens, i have nothing listed and nothing appears to be happening.

any thoughts?
