Greetings,

Boxee is the roxee! Incredible job. Very cool software.

But, I'm trying to add an rss feed via the web site and I keep getting an error: "Invalid Feed (#12)"

The feed is valid (http://feedvalidator.org.li.sabren.com/check.cgi?url=http%3A//tvrss.net/search/index.php%3Fdistribution_group%3Dcombined%26show_n ame%3Dentourage%26show_name_exact%3Dtrue%26filenam e%3D%26date%3D%26quality%3D720%26release_group%3D% 26mode%3Drss).

In addition, the site chokes on the error and the page needs to be refreshed. There is no way to dismiss the error message.

Thanks for any help.

I tried a feed like this and got the same error message. Then, after trying a few other feeds, I discovered that it seems to not like the way certain feed URLs are formatted. More or less, if the URL is long with many variables, it responds with an error message.

SOLUTION:
Grab the feed URL that was throwing the error. Goto TinyURL.com and paste the feed URL into the box. This will create a small URL that Boxee will accept. This new URL will redirect Boxee to the feed you wish to subscribe to.

This worked for me.

you can also add rss feeds via boxee application settings>media sources>manually add source...

I'm trying to add some RSS feeds to my account through the website and everytime I try to enter my feed at tvtorrents, the website throws an error of "Invalid Feed (#12)". When I refresh the page manually the feed is not stored and if I try again, it throws the same error.

I know the feed URL is valid because it worked in FireFox, Safari, Google Reader...etc. I can't post here because of the username/pass embeded in it, but if anyone else with a tvtorrent account has had better luck that I have I'd love to know how you get it to work. Thanks!

Having the same problem actually, just wanted to confirm that you're not alone...! ;)

Both my TVTorrents RSS feeds result in the same error -- although they work in other apps...!

hi guys

I too have that problem, and what I've done to remedy the situation was to take the tvRSS feed (the long URL) and put it into a Feedburner account to keep things organized, however when I add the Feedburner URL (the shorter URL) into the "My RSS" area on the Boxee.tv site, it does in fact add it to my RSS feeds area in my Boxee setup (AppleTV) but it adds it as "tvRSS - search based" and not the renamed title I gave it in feedburner. So, I figured I could live with this for now, but when I add another feedburner rss feed, it gives me another tvRSS - search based" item, so I have a few "tvRSS - search based" items which are different RSS feeds of TV shows (torrents) but I have to go into each one just to figure out which one I want to download.

Another thing I did try was to add the feed manually like you mentioned *within* boxee, I tried this but there is no option to check "torrent", it only has "video", "music", "pictures" and "private", I tried them all but none worked like a torrent feed should.

Any suggestions?

One way to effectively combine the feeds is by using an RSS aggegator like Google Reader or xFruits. You can take several feeds and combine them, then put it through Feedburner and have 1 combined feed show up in Boxee.

adds it as "tvRSS - search based" and not the renamed title I gave it in feedburner
Make sure to enable feed title/description burner.

if all else fails, you can add a feed manually:
boxee > settings > media sources > manually add

Hmm...Doesn't seem to work. I am trying add the feed for a tv show:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/tvrss/fqnL

This is a feed of torrents of tv shows. What steps should I take, either on the program or the web interface, to subscribe to this torrent feed so that the videos are automatically downloaded and added to the list of my tv shows in the program?

The problem seems to be related to special characters in the rss feed address. for example the following works fine:

http://www.mininova.org/rss/PBS

but the following do not work (return error #12)

http://www.mininova.org/rss/PBS NOVA
http://www.mininova.org/rss/PBS%20NOVA

is it possible that they are not encoding the address correctly when they try to save it?

I did try adding these manually with the following but it did not work, when I tried to open the feed it just asked me if I wanted to download it.
tried: torrent://www.mininova.org/rss/PBS NOVA

Hey, I can't Boxee to accept this feed:

http://tvrss.net/search/index.php?distribution_group=eztv&show_name=Dexter&show_name_exact=true&filename=&date=&quality=720P%7CHDTV&release_group=&mode=rss

Any suggestions? Is there like a TinyURL thing for RSS that could fix the problem?

If not...does anyone have suggestions for RSS torrents? I can't find any site that narrows it by specific content (like a TV Show)

Thanks.

Add to list of URL's throwing this error. Doesn't strike me as a very long URL, compared to many. Perhaps a list of specific sites will best enable engineers to sort and sift for patterns?

http://feeds.technologyreview.com/technology_review_video

Update: Just noticed when I add manually in Boxee, it force-appends a forward slash '/' to the end of the URL. But then, Google Reader does that too and doesn't seem to bork things.

this is just how boxee deals with rss feeds internally; it is not related to the 'invalid feed' bug, on the website.

i'm pretty sure the website's bug has to do with some bad parsing of the feed's actual content, on app.boxee.tv's end.

no... it's a server-side bug... the only thing you could try is adding the feed directly.

boxee > settings > media sources > manually add:
rss://www.mondominishows.com/rss/

This added the feed to the internet video screen. Sadly it did not work. How do I remove it now?

I ran into the issues described in this thread and came to the conclusion that the part after the domain name needs to be encoded with HTML URL Encoding characters, e.g. space = %20

Here an example:
feed://www.mininova.org/rss/dvdrip/4
Pulls all entries with the word "dvdrip" in category "Movies"
in order to add this to MyRSS, type:
feed://www.mininova.org/rss/dvdrip%2F4

For multiple words, e.g. "dvdrip german" add
feed://www.mininova.org/rss/dvdrip%2Bgerman%2F4

Look at this URL for a table of reference:
http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/ref_urlencode.asp

Hope this helps.

I used this thread (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=2482&highlight=manually+remove+rss+feeds) to remove bogus RSS feeds from My RSS on line. Look on page 2 around post #13. Essentially when the remove fails when using firefox there should be an "error view", exuse if wording is not exact. The error view will show a list of recent errors encountered by firefox. You then copy the error, using the code sample in post # 13 as a guide, paste the error into your browser while on the Mr RSS page, and fix the escape characters from single quotes to double quotes(once again use the code sample on post #13 as a guide), hit enter and bam your bogus feed will be removed. I did this on two feeds that refused to delete.

I use this tool (http://tvrss.cjmart.in/) to boxify unusable rss feed names which allows me to add them to My RSS on line. Here is the complete post (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?p=31167#post31167).

I've noticed that the My RSS section of app.boxee.tv does not like Case-Sensitive URLs.

For example, when trying to subscribe to 1up's Broken Pixel podcast, the URL is:
http://www.1up.com/flat/Podcasts/brokenpixels.xml

Trying to subscribe to this will give the Invalid Feed (#12) error. I figured I would try seeing of the capital "P" was making Boxee made, but when attempting to use the following URL:
http://www.1up.com/flat/podcasts/brokenpixels.xml

I would get a 404 error from 1up's servers. I can only think that maybe Boxee tried to make all characters in the URL lower-case, thus preventing the feed from subscribing properly. When I used the URL shortening site tr.im to shrink the URL to:
http://tr.im/brokenpixels

I was able to subscribe to the feed properly.

I'm not sure if this information helps, but if it does, awesome. :)

This doesn't work very well for me as the rss feed url is about 120 chars and I'm running boxee on an appletv.
