Unhappy m4v and other annoyances

i have looked around for answers and have not found anything for at least my first issue here.

so i was ecstatic to find you guys added a way to add feeds... too bad when i try to play one it chokes. seems every time i try to play an m4v, boxee treats it as an audio file and make HORRIBLE loud sounds (and my girlfriend looks at me all pissed off, to which i reply "well... it's an alpha..."). i really don't see why this is an issue - xbmc plays them (if i remember correctly, xb has been disconnected for a while). i'm having this issue on both my macbook (intel 2.2GHz, santa rosa) and my apple tv (shipped with version 1.1, updated to 2.2) with the latest boxee on both.

another issue i'm having is with the damned meta data. i'll give you an example: earlier this year, trent reznor (NIN) released a high quality and complete copy of a video bootleg circulated in the 90s known only as "broken" or "the broken video". boxee wants to call it "Broken (2006)". i go in, say wrong movie, movie, "broken (1992)" and add. ok, it disapears from my library. whatever, i assume it will come back... next time i launch boxee, "Broken (2006)" appears again. done it 6 six times now.

we need some way to manually override some of the meta data. if a movie or show comes up without a cover and uses a screen shot (and the one it picks is black), it annoys me. if i could manually fix that, awesome. the organization is kind of a pain too... another example, a certain british tv show about cars... they have some specials (usually between series), as far as i'm concerned, those specials should be filed under that show. it would also be nice if i could select "tv shows / animation" or something of the sort - subheadings. if only there was a way i could tell boxee to browse my media in "folder" mode, meaning in the (very organized) way it's laid out on my (network) drive.

further still, there are many files boxee simply ignores. i have some that are in 2 parts - i expect an issue there...

thanks in advance and i'm still pretty excited about the software - i think it's the most likely candidate for "the media center i've been looking for" award.

you can try some of these tips:
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php...=generic+movie

also, you could try naming the video file broken (1992).avi

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

All this questions you mention had been discussed in XBMC for a long time (Boxee has XBMC in its core)

For example you can force the scrapper (the program that gets the fileinfo from internet) to get the right movie info with an nfo file. I'm not sure whet scrapper boxee uses (in XBMC you can choose it) but J guess it must be IMDB. So if you place the url of the right movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103885/) in u file with the same movie name and extension nfo it should get the right info. (haven't tried it, but I guess it should work)

There have been also discussions about TV specials... but don't know what they did with that.
About the files it ignores T bet you ar talking about episodes. J guess it's because of the name. the tv scrappers use the file name to find the info, so if you changed the name or used your own convention, it can't work. Fortunately there is a file you can change to help the scrapper understand your naming conventions. Look in http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=TV_Shows...V_Shows_lookup

Hope it helped

nope, not episodes. just things that don't show for whatever reason. i'm thinking one thing i should do is rename and rebuild. thanks for the threads.

but what about the m4v? that's actually a bigger concern... if i can't play them at all it's a bit worse than wrong name.

I don't have those kind of files. I'll try to get one and take a look at it...

example of m4v: added the following to my feeds

http://feedproxy.google.com/1UP/1upShow

speaking of feeds... it won't take an xml address?

oh, and thank you guys... naming conventions fixed most of the meta problems (like the part 1 of 2, awesome) if i name them how i see them on imdb. like "broken" worked once i called it "broken (1992) (V)", without "(V)" it still showed as the 2006 movie. still, specials that i'm able to find on imdb don't show up right.

just tried the 10/24 episode, yup - same issue. don't see why... the issue is that boxee thinks it's audio (just confirmed this by turning visualization back on). when i click play it tries to open in the back ground and the text at the top left ("now playing") where it says the name of the file blinks a few times - as though it's trying a few times (takes longer than usual too). i just signed in and checked my feed setting also to be sure it's set to video. i doubted the feed setting had any bearing as i also get this problem with some local files on both my MB and TV. (sorry if i sound dumb today - head colds make stupid)

are you streaming this file? if so, could you try downloading it, then playing it locally?

the reason i ask is because i downloaded the latest one.
