Default TorrentUI 0.8 commited to Github

I kind of skipped some minor releases on the 0.7.x branch, but it was becasue I needed to change things drastically from a configuration perspective.

There is now a configuration window that is shown if you run the app for the first time, or a previous saved connection cannot be made. This dialog offers the ability to autoscan the default addresses of torrent clients (only Transmission at this point) for connections, or you can enter you information manually. Don't pay attention to the username and password fields, they are not active yet, but will be in a minor release of the 0.8.x branch.

What works:
  • Connections:
    • Auto connection on default IPs
    • Manual configuration of IPs
    • Save a working connection and try to connect to that one upon launch.
    • Goes to the configuration screen when a connection cannot be made.
  • Torrent List:
    • Browsing of torrents
    • Pausing of torrents
    • Starting of torrents
    • Deleting torrents (currently only removes them from Transmission, file data is not deleted, adding this later)

Default Browsing / Viewing downloaded files

This really is exciting. How do you view video files that you download through the client? I'm looking for a way to view video files that are neither movies nor TV-shows and don't conform to the Boxee naming patterns. Is there an add-on that makes this possible?

Just use the file browser ("Files") then.

This app implies that the downloads magically end up in a source folder, for example, my torrent client dumps the files into my downloads folder. Then I rely upon boxee to recognize them.

I may think about finding a way to connect files to their respective torrent records in the future. I'm also waiting for some form of queue management via the API so i can dump finished files into the queue.

Thanx for checking it out.

That works but there's a big difference between knowing what's on the hard-drive (and exactly where it is) in order to explicitly drill down to it vs. having Boxee auto-scan my top-level "videos" directory and provide a thumbnail grid of the contents, titles, etc. In fact I'm considering writing an app to do this unless one already exists or is under development. Does anyone know?

Default Transmission or rtorrent

I must be missing something, but how do you get Transmission or rtorrent running with the Boxee Beta?

You close Boxee then double-click on the Transmission icon, then launch Boxee again. Was that a trick question?

Ah, well, your kind of at Boxee's mercy at this point. They do currently have rTorrent starting up in the background on the beta builds, so an rtorrent backend (likely at a weird FCGI port) would allow you to use this.

At this point, I wouldn't be putting my money on Boxee adding the factory torrent list again. The have content provider relationships to maintain and CBS etc probably doesn't look to highly upon this functionality. This is why TorrentUI got started.
