Question Translation teams?

Hello, I was really eager when i found out that boxee comes in a huge variety of languages. Unfortunatly, it comes of a bit short (at least the Norwegian is), missing pieces and bits of translations.

So my question; what I can I do to contribute to a more extend translation?
Those 2000 lines already done must have come from somewhere. So how is it all oriented and "compiled"? Could someone give me any pointers?

It seems like I just have to apply the sting ID's in strings.xml, but it would be unnecessary if someones already doing it.

From what I can tell, the Boxee team is relativity small, and it's unlikely they are doing the translations.

My bet would be that those translations are the result of the very kind contributers over at xbmc.org (The project Boxee is based on).

Now, regarding what is missing, I would also bet the the parts that are missing are related to Boxee specific features.

I can't say if your work would be used, but my bet is that it would. The boxee team are really good about that type of stuff.

hi.
as agentlame stated, the translation files are taken from xbmc and do not cover the boxee functionality.
we have *some* languages on the agenda but unfortunately Norwegian isnt one of them...
we will be happy to apply your work if you decide to contribute by translating the strings.xml file.
the base (full) file is the english file (language/English/strings.xml) and the boxee strings are the ones with id > 50000.

thanks for the report. and thanks agentlame for the clarifications.

welcome to boxee

-vulkan.

I sort of reached the same conclusion a while after posting the thread. I'd be happy to start translating, though I can't promise that i'll ever get it complete done, due to the fact that I don't have too much extra time to spare (one of my busiest years). Nor can I offer a "professional" translation; but it would probably be good enough for most people.

So if anyone else wants to join me in a Norwegian translation, please drop me a message.

Edit: Came across a little problem: None of the translated strings in main menu takes effect. I tried changing the english strings.xml in case of a syntax error in my own document, but it didn't change there either. Does this make any sense at all?

well... yes - it may make sense. there may be places in which language is still hard coded into the skin or even source code. we are of course tracking those places and moving everything into strings.xml.

thanks!

Great, but in that case; I think I'm going to put the translation on hold untill that happends. Could you perhaps give me a PM when/if it's being applied?

I'm aware, and I've translated quite a lot.
But it just isn't worth a translation, if its going to be incomplete.

Hi OlaNordmann

I am sure once you have start(ed) others will join in, it just needs one person to get the ball rolling , this is how some other languages where built ...

Default Spanish translation

Talking about translations I would like to help with the Spanish translation. I've done it in the past for my own use with XBMC and wouldn't mind sharing it this time...

I only have an aTV for testing and I fear the ftp server of XBMC has been removed from boxee...
what do you think is the best way to upload/ download files from aTV?
