Default Video Chat for Boxee and Boxee box!

Video Chat would be the coolest things for Boxee PERIOD! I am assuming with the Boxee box, people will be able to update Boxee for it when the team comes out with new updates, etc. Well I think video chat with friends who are on Boxee the same time you are would be great! It could be like the PS3 with 6 people in a chat or just 1 on 1 and it would still rule! Just a thought... what do you think... doable or just a dream... thanks!

I don't see why something couldn't be built in. However I'd rather see them create something like a "sykpe app" instead so you don't lock yourself into other boxee users... instead the possibilities are endless. I haven't messed with the skype api and am not sure if it's 100% possible, but agreed that would be awesome.

I think it was the Revue (google tv box) that has video chat. Reviews thought it was a great idea... but they didn't like that it was yet another service and you'd have to chat with another person on a Revue.

I'd like to roll with it no matter what: skype, gmail video or just video cam of some sort. I don't use it now at all, but would like to.

Skype and Gmail's video services are great - I don't use them much -- but I do use Skypes chat service every day to keep in touch with friends and family - simply having a chat service (prefferably Skype) would be a fine addition to Boxee

If the Boxee Box had a skype app where I could chat with anyone else anywhere that had skype, whether it be on a computer or another boxee, I would buy this thing TODAY. It is the only reservation I have and the only reason I'm still considering the Revue.

Official Skype support would be quite nice, partner with a webcam maker and factor in all the necessary costs and licenses to get the various services working.

If they where to integrate some sort of video chat such as skype, it would be cool if they had it where when someone was calling you and your watching something that the show would pause and give you the option to take the call or to go back to the show.

Default +1 Skype for BB

I have been yearning for proper TV-based VC for years now. The frustrating thing is that the technology has been around for ages, but it's just never really been packaged up into a user-friendly mass market offerring before.

E.g. right now, I *could* plug my laptop into the VGA port in my TV (sorry - I have an old laptop with no HDMI ), place an external webcam on top of the LCD TV and control it all with a wireless mouse/keyboard. But it's just way too much faffing about.

Whereas, convince:
  • a webcam manufacturer to produce a mid-range webcam with decent pan & zoom and a built in mic... along with BoxeeBox drivers, and
  • the Skype guys to create a BB-tailored version of their client
...and that would be a game-changer.

I had the Revue and returned it. Their video chat is proprietary so you can only call someone who uses that service which is silly when video chat services exist like...Skype. The Revue might be good when it has better apps and doesn't prominently display apps you didn't ask for or install. A skype app and a list of approved cams would be excellent.
