Default Can't access Box's SMB Share

Hi everyone,

Everything's been working pretty splendidly for me with the Boxee Box so far with just one problem. I set up a Windows Sharing server from the Box so that I may be able to add files to it from my laptop. Upon connecting to "boxeebox," I am presented the option to connect to my attached hard drive. Unfortunately, even when entering the correct username (guest), domain, and password, I can't seem to get access to the Box; it just keeps asking me for my credentials. For what it's worth, I'm running Ubuntu Linux 10.10. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

-Dima

I am able to access the drive via SMB and am using OS X 10.6.5. However, I cannot write to the drive only read.
Note I did not need to specify the domain, only guest and the password, if one is set.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, TreeBeard. I've continued to try, but unfortunately I can't seem to get through the Box's security. Furthermore, at least in Ubuntu, I'm required to put in a domain (I left it as WORKGROUP, but also tried variants). Has anyone running a Linux-based OS been able to connect to a SMB server run off the Boxee Box?

Workgroup and domain are separate things, domain should not be applicable in this instance and should not be set to the name of the workgroup. The screenshots I see of Ubuntu gui smb mounting show domain as an option, not a requirement, try leaving it blank. You can also try removing the password at the box.

You should only be specifying the ip or 'boxeebox' as the host and the configured username/password.

Here are instructions via terminal as well:

I'm still unable to do this. I specified the password and turned on Window's sharing in the boxee box and tried to connect from my Windows laptop and get prompted but use the user name guest and my password and keep getting denied.

I was able to connect (read-only) from a Windows 7 machine. Be sure the box is configured with the correct workgroup as Windows 7 uses a different default workgroup then XP. I simply mapped a network drive to \\boxeebox\[share].

Where do you specify the share name on the Boxee? I have never seen this. Only the part to enable Windows sharing and put in a password.

TreeBeard, would you be willing to help me with this? I do not understand at all how I'm supposed to set this up and I'm on a Mac running 10.6.5. I want my Boxee to see my laptop and I want my laptop to see the Boxee. It's supposed to do this, right? I'd appreciate any help you can provide. I've read the info here and it didn't help me at all.

I had two drives plugged into it and it was reading form both.

I have a drive plugged into my Airport Extreme and the Boxee is also plugged into the Airport Extreme, but that drive is not showing up in Boxee. I wish it would. All of my media files are on it.
