Default Request: Make the boxee (Box) music app NOT the worst implementation ever

The title covers it. Using Boxee (limited) on the PC was fine because I used other software for managing music, but I just got the Boxee Box set up last night and to my surprise it has nearly the worst music management systems I have ever used. It makes my 8 year old 256mb crappy mp3 player seem amazing.
I realize Boxee is NOT XBMC, but at least they tried to make music part of the multimedia experience. I cannot believe we have to request such a basic feature as being able to sort by genre, create playlists on the fly and add queued items to play. The current one is like having to switch CDs in the car to hear a different song. Unless I'm missing something, it's just plain stupid. All the complaining about netflix... but something LOCAL gets ignored?

Seriously. I won't be returning the box, but it means for now if I don't want a computer dedicated to hooking music to my home theater, I'll have to keep the ancient XBMC Xbox connected and running. Major fail.

(I read elsewhere from a Boxee developer that they appreciate the blunt, so I'm expressing my extreme distaste bluntly)

+ 1 for this. I posted this in another thread and was directed here.

I have about 3000 FLAC songs and as is, it is an absolute nightmare navigating them on the BB. Are there any plans to upgrade the BB's music user interface in upcoming service packs?

    Wish List:
    The ability to queue music
The ability to create and manage play lists
The ability to search for a song by title/artist rather than having to scroll down
    The ability to shuffle songs
The ability to sort music by year/decade/song title/most played

I implore anyone with a decent music collection that they want to play on their home theatre to add their support to this thread.

Even being able to scroll by skipping "pages" would be SOMETHING.
After playing with this for a week, for TV and Movies it's pretty good. But the music player is, and I reitterate, one of the worst music playing experiences I've ever had because even in the physical world, I can grab and queue up the next CD/record to play another track faster than this does.

As for a specific feature, since Boxee has been around a while and it's likely a stretch anyway, intelligent music selection would be appropriate. On the PC I was using IP Music Match (before it went commercial) and on linux this past weekend I used Banshee with the Mirage extension. I have about 9000 tracks on my NAS, sometimes I just want "this type of song".

Default Please improve the music player in Boxee

Boxee would be so much better wth improved fuctionality for playing local music.
    First concern; more visualisation options
Second concern; add options like; "add to play now", "Make Playlist", "Shuffle" and so forth.....

    I completely agree,

I'd also like to see "MUSIC" on the "Home" screen and not relegated to files. All that real estate being taken up by videos that someone else likes....makes no sense to me. If you ever to a factory restore, look at the .09 firmware before upgrading. I've said this ad nauseum, but they stripped out 5 or 6 Music player functions when they migrated to 1.0....and for no apparent reason.

There is the Subsonic media server app, but it is not Boxee independent.

    I second!!

The GUI for Music Player is mediocre at best and lacks features a 30$-MP3-Player does offer perfectely.

As I use my boxee box half the time for listening to music this also is a major concern for me...

Another decent alternative for music on the Box is Asset UPnP (also must be installed on a computer).

Yes, these are just work arounds and yes, Boxee knows that it needs to work on the music playler; unfornuately, it's been a lower priority compared to content partnerships and outstanding issues. Hopefully with this new round of funding and hiring, they'll have the resources to start addressing this soon!

    Fingers crossed!!!

We really shouldn't have to rely on workarounds.
