Default Problem playing rar-files.

One of the main reasons i bought Boxee Box was the excellent way it handled video-files embedded in rar-archives, a truly great and space-efficient feature.

However, every single update from when I bought the Box (i.e. everything except factory settings) has broken that functionality.

I am using a SMB share from a laptop running Windows 7 64-bit enterprise edition and unpacked video files work as they should.

I was wondering if anyone else has had an issue with this and/or have an idea how to fix it.

I have created a jira for it to follow the said process: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-10838

Unfortunately exactly nothing has happened to it yet. If anyone ahve the same issue please vote/comment on that ticket as well.

Wow, have I somehow managed to find a problem that I am the only one experiencing?

Seriously a RAR file? To the best of my knowledge, Boxee has NEVER played RAR files. RAR files are data containers, they store one or several files in the compressed form. You need to extract the file from within the RAR file(s). Boxee has been able to play IMAGE files, but I dont ever recall it playing RAR files.

So it would appear, YES, you are the only one having this issue.

@SHollywood, out of the box, Boxee did apparently play video files that were contained inside of rar files but that ability has been lost in the updates.

@JoacimSvensson, you may not be the only one who's come across this issue, but you're certainly in the minority. Very few people are likely to ever take advantage of that feature. Most of the modern video formats use very high levels of compression already, so there's not much to be gained by compressing them further.

Ah, that's a real bummer. :-( being able to leave my rar-archives untouched was one of the main reasons behind buying the box, especially when it is so US-centered that there is not much worth in the apps.

Really hope that russet function will be available again, seems like they are breaking more features than they are fixing with each update.

Oh the bright side it hasn't been closed as won't fix so just cross your fingers and hope they get to it sooner rather than later.
