Default IMDB: Select alternate title.

Regarding this post, I got to thinking.

Boxee currently lets you select among the verious results returned from the IMDB query. I think if, in that a give result the is an alternate title, you should be able to select it as well.

Instead of adding more UI congestion, you could just list them as separate entries.

So if "The Neverending Story" returns three results:
Unendliche Geschichte, Die
The Neverending Story II
The Neverending Story III
(This is close to what it actually returns)

And say that "Unendliche Geschichte, Die" has the alternate title of
"The Neverending Story"

Maybe just make the list:
Unendliche Geschichte, Die
The Neverending Story
The Neverending Story II
The Neverending Story III

This seems like a good usability compromise. This way, I, the user, don't have to understand what is going on during the Boxee/IMDB love session. I don't need to know that "Unendliche Geschichte, Die" and "The Neverending Story" are the exact same IMDB entry, and will give me all the same info.

All my uncultured American brain knows is there is one correct and one incorrect answer.

The downside is that you have to parse each return result for alternate titles. I don't know if You are using some kind on IMDB API, or just scraping. If the API returns this info for each result, it should be trivial. But, even if you have to scrape through each result, I think the trade-off in search speed is worth it, to the end user.

If NOTHING else, I would say: let the user select the IMDB entry, and just manually edit in a title. (Retaining all the other IMDB goodness, of course.)
