Well for me, I have a slingbox connected to a set top box in NY. I live out of state and do not always get local sports on tv where I currently live. So I am able to watch the content via streaming) from my NY set top box wherever I am in the world through slingbox.com. Until now. I have needed a computer to watch tv, but I can now use my boxee to watch the stream on my tv.

Slingbox doesn't replace cable provider, it takes your already existing cable and turns it to an internet video accessible over the internet, its like watching your home tv remotely. A purpose for this might be if you wanna watch TV while travelling or if your like me, a poor college student, and want to be able to watch TV for free by plugging into my parents cable and beaming it to my out of state college apartment.

but you can only do that if your parents are not watching tv, correct? If they are, then you need to watch whatever they are watching, right?
Or do you setup the slingbox on a cable or satellite receiver that they are not using?
