Default Are we gonna get a firmware update soon or not?

It has been quite some time since Firmware version 1.5.1.23735 was released.

I want a yes/no answer! You owe your customers an answer!

Will there be a firmware update soon for the Boxee Box?

I never wanted to believe the worst....but I think that Boxee has walked away.

If nothing comes this month then you can basically right it off.
The next two months are xmas selling time and if there going to hit that time of the year for sales it has to be now or not at all.

I don't even want a firmware update any more, I just want them to admit they have walked away and open up the box so other people can give us access to some content.

I agree with you in that opening the box for free development is the best we can hope for now.
But since this is still a commercial product, my faith in this really happening is quite low...

Also, even if team Boxee does open their own sources and relax the license agreements to allow us to do whatever we want, I think we would need permission from others too in order to gain access to the full set of SDKs required for meaningful development.

Unfortunately I doubt very much that Intel will release theirs, and I'm completely certain that Adobe will not release their flash SDK for this platform. And rev-engineering either one without their permission would simply make the new software illegal.

As for myself, I'm one more who has pre-ordered an Ouya, with intent to use it with Plex. But I don't expect it to outperform my current Boxee use, unless the Plex server software is significantly improved.

    eg:
According to current docs, Plex is only able to play DVD-Video ISOs if the client is running on the same physical machine as the server (they probably use a virtual mount method, not shared over LAN), and that is not going to be possible with the Ouya which will have to be client-only, with a real computer acting as Plex server on the LAN. So they'll have to come up with a better method of handling ISOs, to make those usable by remote clients.

    Best regards: Ronald.

Well it looks like it is curtains for my support of Boxee.

This is also one more nail in D-Link's coffin in my opinion.

I missed the days when companies worked to make customers happy. Now they just put out shiny objects, take money, and then run like heck.

    Bu-bye Boxee!

I think we can expect a new firmware. Probably in November is my thoughts. I could be wrong, but I'm crossing my fingers they keep on support boxee v1 for a while before and after the release of the 2nd one.
