Description

You haven't implemented a Queue, you've implemented a Stack
The way you add things to the Queue is wrong.

With a Queue, new things added to the queue so go to the end.
Put another way, The oldest thing still in the queue should be on top.

The way you have implemented it, it is more like a Stack, where the thing I just added is now on top, pushing all the older things down.
Granted you can watch them in any order

Agreed.

Because it builds up the queue in the wrong order, When I finish watching an item in my queue and it asks me to play the next item I usually actually want to play the previous item.

It would be good if we could navigate through the queue inside that dialog

You should also be able to rearrange the order of your queue, and have the ability to play it like a playlist :)

one thing i felt was that shouldnt the queue be a little more effective in the way say if an episode of a show is aired on a particular day - gets available online via say netflix etc - it should be reflected in the queue automatically with the air date etc?
that would be a better implementation say maybe in the queue or the featured category where new episode of the shows in my library appear the moment they appear online?
just a thought and a pretty simple one i think...

you are right and we will need to think a bit more on how to improve it. it will only open after we release the formal beta.

There are a lot of suggestions in the comments here but they should ALL be separate issues!!

The only thing you need to do to resolve this issue is to REVERSE THE QUEUE. You probably don't even need to change the way you're storing the queue (or how you're adding items to it), just the order you display it in.

Seems like such a simple change.

Right...Makes sense to me that for now the queue should be reversed (presumably simple change that fixes a pretty basic flaw in the current queue design), and still do more significant queue changes later.

agree with all previous, new adds should go to end of queue. also, after watching an item it should be removed from the queue not just marked as watched. alternatively you could implement this as a filter where watched items are hidden from the queue by default, perhaps with option to show in the Queue page.

I can see where some *might* want to sort newest first, so why not be consistent with other screens and have a hidden left menu that allows you to set the sort order to newest first or oldest first?

I think down the road allowing the user to change the play order would be a good thing, but for now the fact that there is only one sort seems very inconsistent with the rest of the apps settings.

please stop mentioning new feature requests in the comments here.

This is a simple issue with a simple fix.

i personally agree with you. you should be able to sort/filter the queue just like you can in the movies section. but that is a separate issue.

please discuss new feature requests at http://forum.boxee.tv/

this could be solved by a sorting button option like in other views to serve people who prefer it either way
