    I think i found a bug with VPN. I've had this happen to me twice now, of course with debug on i have not been able to reproduce it.

    But.. basically:

    - Connect to VPN (strongvpn is the host)
    - Play pandora for an hour or so
    - stop pandora
    - Disconnect VPN
    - browse to my SMB share, list videos oK
    - Click to play local video from SMB share

    at this point the boxee o/s crashes and restarts, i'm back at the home screen. then i can browse in and play no problem

please try to reproduce this issue again,
by your description this is not a VPN issue which causing boxee to crash.

Please attach a Debug log to this issue.
Settings > System > Debug > Debug Level = Debug
ReStart Boxee, and after experiencing the problem, close Boxee and attach your log file to the bug.
DEBUG log slows down the performance. so afterward, switch the log level back to NONE
Boxee Box log may be found at http://boxeebox:8080/ click on the "Get latest " link. (if boxee crash the 'Error Logs' should show you the latest log with time of the crash)

Hey, well i made it happen again with debug on. basically following the exact steps above. after doing a 'get latest' when the os came back, it looks like the log file only contains info from when the system started after the crash. any way to make it actively log? log attached anyway

*edit* never mind, i see the other report log file. it is now attached as well.
