Boxee Home Screen

Question

What does each icon on on the Boxee home screen mean?

Answer

The Boxee home screen displays icons for Friends, Watch Later, Shows, Movies, Apps, Files and Web along with the latest recommended media content and special features from Boxee. The icons provide easy access to Boxee's Internet features and your personal media files.

Boxee Home

Friends

Friends lets you watch videos shared by your friends on Facebook and Twitter. In order to use this feature, you need to activate it by connecting your Facebook and Twitter accounts to your Boxee account. Go to bbx.boxee.tv/friends and follow the instructions in order to add your social accounts.

Watch Later

Watch Later lets you view new episodes of TV programs you've marked as favorites or any videos where you've clicked the "Watch Later" icon. You can add any video to your Watch Later list by selecting the "Watch Later" icon from the on-screen display menu. Just press OK during the video, then highlight "Watch Later" and press OK again.

Also, if it install the Boxee Bookmarklet on your browser all the videos that you add will be added to this list. For more information go to http://bbx.boxee.tv/watchlater.

Shows

Select Shows to browse and view television shows and channels that are available from the Internet in your location. You can browse the most popular shows using a list view that displays details on the highlighted show or an icon view. To change views, press the up arrow on the remote control to highlight the icon at the upper right corner of the screen, then press OK to toggle the view.

Inside Shows you have several filter and sort options. You can sort the shows by All, Favorites, Genres, Channels and Files (your local files that you added to the media library). Inside each category you can sort the files by the A-Z or Z-A, Newest first or Oldest as well as using the Channel Filter to remove online sources you don't want displayed.

Boxee Shows

Movies

Movies lets you browse and view movies and videos that are available from the Internet that are available in your location or from your local media library that you added to Boxee. You can browse the most popular movies using a list view that displays details on the highlighted movie or an icon view. To change views, press the up arrow on your keyboard or remote control to highlight the icon at the upper right corner of the screen, then press Enter or OK to toggle the view.

Inside Movies you have several filter and sorting options. You can sort the movies by All, Genres, Channels, Files (your local files that you added to the media library) and Trailers section. Inside each category you can sort the files by A-Z, Most popular Newest/ Oldest First, you can use the Channel Filter to remove online sources you don't want displayed.

Boxee Movies

Apps

Apps provides easy access to hundreds of specialized Internet-based applications and RSS feeds. The Boxee App library includes hundreds of the most popular internet video, music, and photo services. Scroll through the library to select an app you want to use.

You can filter the Apps section by categories and add third party repositories as well.

NOTE: Some premium apps might require you to set up an account and pay monthly fees to use them.

Boxee Apps

Files

Files provides access to your personal media files stored on network shares and local storage volumes (like external hard drives). Within Files, you can browse media files stored on your home network or on external USB devices connected to the Boxee Box. Use the unidentified videos option to locate personal videos that do not show up in the movies folder. The Music and Photos section is located here as well.

Web

Clicking Web takes you to the built-in Boxee web browser.  Using the browser you can navigate to sites all over the web for viewing additional content.

Live TV

Live TV will appear only after you connect the Boxee Live TV dongle to the Boxee Box, it will provide you with access to the Boxee live TV feature.
